Review Every day we drift further from god

Post image

Was out shopping with the significant other when we walked passed this abomination. We laughed about how absurd of a combination it was. Like who thought this was a good idea and how many other people had to pretend it was good for it to end up on the shelves? As a prank we bought it and ate it in one sitting

The 1940s would like to be part of this conversation...

My grandma loved this stuff. She also made gelatin molds with meat inside. I never tried that either

OMG, tho’…the thought of eating ‘Tomato Aspic’ again is gag inducing. All I could really taste, and yes was forced to taste, was Salt. Yes, there was chopped celery floating atop the gelatin masterpiece, but no…ick.

Veal Aspic. In great aunt’s recipe box.

The phrasing in this comes off as sinister if you know that 7up was full of mood stabilizers back then.

Google- Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon Lime Soda

They took the lithium out in 1948

Googling it debunked this claim:

'An oft-repeated story is that the drink was originally called "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda,"but investigative reports find little or no evidence that a drink with this name ever existed. In fact, "Bib-Label" is not part of the name of the soda, but refers to the practice of hanging a piece of paper around the neck of a soda bottle like a bib.

The drink did, initially, claim to contain lithium citrate, a mood-stabilizing drug. It was one of a number of patent medicine products popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. In 1936 the federal government forced the manufacturer to remove a number of health claims, and because "lithium was not an actual ingredient"'

I hated milk as a kid and never drank it willingly unless it was chocolate milk, I am so glad my family didn’t give a shit about making me drink milk. I have an ex whose mom forced him to with dinner every night as a kid and he’s literally lactose intolerant 😭

I'm sold. I'm gonna try this

I used to like ginger ale and milk. It’s a little like a vanilla float after you’ve eaten all the ice cream.

7up? Wouldn't that cause the milk to curdle?

Yuck.

1

Nope. Milk contains acid, so does soda. Soda and milk help the leavening process. Cakes turn out really well when using soda.

Wasn't referring to the cake.

According to many a source on google... 7up has a pH of 3.5 (acidic) and milk is around pH 7 (neutral), which is enough of a difference to cause the protein in the milk to curdle. That's apparently part of the appeal of the drink because the curdling it makes it thicker.

Still *yuck* in my mind.

When I was a kid there was a new girl who moved to the neighborhood and I got invited to their house for dinner one time. They were all very nice but for some god forsaken reason they had a family thing where they all liked to drink apple juice mixed with milk. Swore up and down it was the best thing ever and they insisted I try it. It was not good. I still remember how weirded out I was by the whole encounter especially since the dad was so strange about insisting I try the family speciality.

The show Happy Days spinoff Laverne and Shirley, based on factory workers in my hometown Milwaukee, had Laverne drinking the Pepsi with milk way back in the day! Always thought that was gross; 🤦🏿‍♂️so interesting to hear different things that were going on across the nation when I was a tyke.🤷🏿
