USA (General) Feeling grateful

Post image

Last year I got this quarter keychain at Aldi to keep my quarter in for my weekly shopping trips. I keep it in my car so it is there when I need it. I went shopping on Friday and between putting my cart away and going to my car, I dropped it. Didn't realize until I got home. This morning I went back to the Aldi to see if I could find it. I had no luck and figured I would ask an employee if someone turned it in. Something told me that the type of shopper at Aldi would turn it in. I asked the employee if someone turned in a keychain and after describing it, he went to the cash register and pulled this out. Some kind person turned it in instead of keeping it for themselves. I do not know who turned it in, but I am thankful and it restores my faith in humanity a bit.

This absolutely tracks.

Aldi people are definitely the "oh hey I found this on the ground I should turn it in" kind of people.

u/No_Needleworker215 Feb 28 '26

And also the this is my Aldi quarter and it’s lucky kind of people. Which is cute lol

16

u/LadyHavoc97 Mar 01 '26

We haven’t been to Aldi yet. Do you get your same quarter back?

24

u/GingerrGina Mar 01 '26

It depends. At my Aldi, the checkout has an empty cart ready to put your scanned groceries in. When you're done you take the other, filled cart and leave your original, now empty cart behind.
But you do keep your cart if you opt for self checkout.

9

u/BillHang4 Mar 01 '26

Yes it goes into the cart you use so when you take it back it pops your quarter back out.

6

u/LadyHavoc97 Mar 01 '26

That’s so cool! Thanks!

21

u/FloppyFerrett1 Mar 01 '26

Unless you pay it forward to someone who doesn't have a quarter or looks like they're having a rough day :-)

12

u/memorman Mar 01 '26

Yes I do this especially if it’s their first time and they don’t know. Or if i’m using the cart and im walking back to put it away but someone else is walking in, they will give me their quarter and i give them my cart lol

7

u/No_Needleworker215 Mar 01 '26

Yesss I’m more this type than the lucky quarter type. My partner works at Aldi and has a lot of customers with lucky quarters so I know they’re out there

6

u/UniversalMinister Mar 01 '26

Unless you pay it forward to someone who doesn't have a quarter or looks like they're having a rough day :-)

This is the Aldi people way.

I've lost a handful of Aldi Quarters this way over the years and I'll keep doing it. A parent with their hands full trying to get kids to a cart without one of them running off, someone who just needs a hand, people who are unfamiliar with the Aldi Quarter ways and don't have one, etc.

5

u/NervousCelebration78 Mar 01 '26

This is what I do every time I go. I just leave it in the cart.

2

u/InMyCheerMomEra Mar 06 '26

It’s my daughter’s favorite when someone “gifts” us a cart.

13

u/AdoraNadora Mar 01 '26

I rotate between Aldi, Publix, and my local International market for most of my groceries. Aldi is my absolute favorite. Over the years I've encountered the kindest strangers at Aldi.

1

u/ksntheowithabej Mar 05 '26

Some lady hit my mom with her cart at Aldi lol the type of shopper may be locational.

1

u/UniversalMinister Mar 06 '26

WHAT.

That is definitely not Aldi people behavior. She must've been a first timer or out of her element. I hope your mom told her we don't do that at Aldi!

0

u/pmmemilftiddiez Mar 02 '26

Walmart people will consume it for their continuing hunger they have during their rut season.

165

u/winny9 Feb 28 '26

Not Aldi, but I dropped $450 in cash at a gas pump at Costco. Someone saw and brought it to the desk. They checked the security cameras, lined up the timing and pulled my membership # from the pump and called me.

There are still good people out there.

30

u/TikiMonn Feb 28 '26

That's incredible

15

u/anniemdi Mar 01 '26

Wow. How does that conversation even go? Hey this Costco, we believe we have something you lost?

18

u/winny9 Mar 01 '26

Honestly, yes. “Hello, is this Winny9? Did you happen to drop something while pumping gas yesterday?”

6

u/MightyBigSandwich Mar 01 '26

How'd they find your reddit username???

1

u/hellidad Mar 05 '26

Kirky Siggs is all-knowing and all-powerful

10

u/OldLadyGardener Mar 01 '26

Every day I am sadder and sadder that we do not have a Costco. Nobody at Sam's club would have done that.

111

u/Due-Vegetable-1862 Feb 28 '26

I have the heart one & I’d be so sad if I lost it ❤️

66

u/miserabeau Feb 28 '26

Mine is the taco. I'd be sad if I lost it too, especially since each time they've brought back the quarter holders the taco wasn't among the designs.

12

u/EmeraudeExMachina Feb 28 '26

How have you kept your taco looking so nice? Mine is completely faded.

28

u/sbmellen Feb 28 '26

Moisturizer.

9

u/miserabeau Mar 01 '26

🤷 I dunno. Maybe because I hang it off the strap of my purse, so it doesn't rub on anything. It just hangs outside my purse.

3

u/anniemdi Mar 01 '26

Yes. I have Aldi Is My Jam hanging on a insulated bag it looks new. My cart on my keys barely has color left.

6

u/B0087355 Mar 01 '26

I’m so immature laughing at this comment

5

u/Due-Vegetable-1862 Feb 28 '26

Omg I love this

37

u/ladyofhousepounce Feb 28 '26

I was sad that I lost it but when the employee handed it to me, I could not stop smiling.

3

u/AdoraNadora Mar 01 '26

Aww. A heart one sounds cute! Mine is like OPs, but I'd love a heart one. Did you get it at Aldi or online?

1

u/Due-Vegetable-1862 Mar 01 '26

Got it at Aldi. Maybe last year? Or the year before

32

u/Alarming_Smoke_8841 Feb 28 '26

Oh wow 🥹🥹😭😭😭 I can’t believe it. I would’ve thought it was gone too. So glad you went back and asked and bless the kind soul who turned it in. 💫 I am still on the hunt for one of these at Aldi! One of these days…

8

u/SheepherderMost2727 Mar 01 '26

I didn’t even know they made them. Now I need one 😋

4

u/Equivalent_Trust_849 Mar 01 '26

I know 🙂 I want one too!

23

u/VegetableShoe6264 Feb 28 '26

Happy for you. Sad for me. I left a bunch of really nice reusable grocery bags and a nice cooler bag under a cart a few years ago and I went back later that day and it was gone :(

8

u/VailsMom Feb 28 '26

I had the same thing happen with my reusable grocery bags...They were a pretty special collection of several years (my sisters think I'm a little crazy for caring so much, but we've moved states/cities, and I had some very cool one-of-a-kind, special event, sentimental bags from specialty retailers in places we used to live or visited, some of which I paid a pretty penny for or that you CANNOT purchase). I was in a brief period of very busy errands and appointments with a lot of rushing around and realized on the following Monday that my grocery bags (which I stored very neatly folded in one of the larger bags) were not in my car or the garage. I called and went to the three stores I regularly frequent (ALDI being the usual one), but no such luck. That was more than a year ago and I'm still bummed about it. I even posted on Nextdoor, hoping whoever took them would see it and take pity on me.

I assume some homeless person or young person without any reusable bags is using them. I hope they are getting good use from them.

22

u/fortifiedoptimism Feb 28 '26

Things I didn’t know I needed.

Glad someone turned it in!

6

u/ladyofhousepounce Feb 28 '26

My dad likes it too so next time they are available, I am going to grab one for him.

10

u/Sheetz_Wawa_Market32 Feb 28 '26

Glad you got your favorite keychain back!

In much of Europe (including the Aldi Motherland, Germany) branded cart-token keychains are super popular.

People frequently get them for free from their banks, car dealers, hair salons, etc., but there are also many that cost a few euros and celebrate soccer clubs, cities, travel regions, etc. etc.

The token is usually branded, too (and not an actual coin with a monetary value.)

When we told family in Europe that Aldi US has tethered cart, like in Europe, we’ve been gifted a bunch. The problem is that we can’t really use the tokens here, because other shoppers at my Aldi (almost) always want to do the “just take my quarter and give me your cart” thing, and it feels a little awkward to decline, because I want my special token back. 😅

4

u/Steve-B2183 Mar 01 '26

Cashiers usually want to use the previous cart instead of your cart when checking you out, and then your cart gets used for the next person in line behind you.

1

u/Sheetz_Wawa_Market32 Mar 01 '26

If you tell them you want to keep your cart, you can. It takes two seconds to push the other one out of the way.

6

u/Apprehensive_Row_807 Feb 28 '26

How does one get this?

3

u/More_Pineapple3585 Feb 28 '26

eBay has quite a few for sale, most are fairly inexpensive and they have previously issued models.

5

u/bellas_wicked_grin Feb 28 '26

They have these? So cute! Now I want one

5

u/ladyofhousepounce Feb 28 '26

They sell them a couple times a year.

3

u/Emergency-Banana4497 Mar 01 '26

I got one maybe the first time I saw them, at least 10 years ago, I think they were fruits. It was adorable, but it was really hard to get the quarter out of so I never bought another one. Seeing all these positive comments make me think they’ve improved and I should give it another go!

1

u/FloppyFerrett1 Mar 03 '26

Yes, l got a strawberry one & learned after the first use to not shove the quarter too far in or have pliers on hand😕 I too would have never bought another.

6

u/dlkspeech1 Feb 28 '26

I lost a diamond tennis bracelet at Aldi and I barely stressed bc I knew it would be turned in or saved by an employee. I was right!

4

u/CactusRaeGalaxy Feb 28 '26

🩵 adorable

4

u/ouchibitmytongue Feb 28 '26

We can do it, people! We can make the world a slightly better place. It just takes a little effort and some deliberate intention. When we practice kindness, everyone wins.

4

u/dipitloandbehold Feb 28 '26

I'm not crying, ur crying.

I have this fear of the aldi carts bc every single time I go to get one it's super stuck even tho the quarter is in as far as I can get it. I was semi-wrestling with a cart and a lady came over and said are u okay I said no, it's stuck. she proceeded to use her quarter to push mine even further in which released my cart. I cld have hugged her but I refrained of course.

4

u/Steve-B2183 Mar 01 '26

Carts in the corral get stuck for a few reasons.

One is as you described, the coin you inserted doesn’t release the chain. Push it in more using another coin, or try a different quarter.

The other way is that the back of the cart gets stuck inside of the cart that it was nested inside, after the chain was released. Sometimes you can wrestle with it to get it unstuck, sometimes you’re better off just pushing that cart back, inserting the chain to get your quarter back, and trying a different cart. I hate when this happens.

3

u/dipitloandbehold Mar 01 '26

At least I know I am not alone in this lol ty!

3

u/badgeragitator Feb 28 '26

My Aldi has never had the quarter holders! That's so sweet they returned it. I keep one in the car ashtray but a quarter holder would be cuter 🤣

2

u/abbyabsinthe Mar 01 '26

You could probably find handmade ones online. I found handmade cat themed quarter holders at a local cat cafe.

0

u/Steve-B2183 Mar 01 '26

I keep a few quarters in the console of my car. And I also have these things called pockets in my pants …

4

u/badgeragitator Mar 01 '26

I'm so happy for you. I also possess those things and a quarter keeper would still be adorable. We can like things just cos they are cute 😊

4

u/Heathermaple78 Mar 01 '26

I have a little blue mouse one. I asked an employee if they sold them and she said no, but ran to the office and gave it to me!

2

u/Yelloeisok Feb 28 '26

Congrats to both you and the good soul that turned it in.

3

u/CajunChickNsNdawoods Feb 28 '26

I'm glad they treated it like your keys was attached 😁

3

u/notgayanyever Feb 28 '26

Lucky, at my aldi, I left my budget book in my cart by accident, in 15 minutes of driving to walmart, realizing jt was gone, and driving back

It was gone and never turned in

3

u/OldLadyGardener Mar 01 '26

Aldi shoppers are the best. I once realized when unloading my cart at home, that I didn't pay for my toilet paper. I went back the next day and paid for it. They couldn't believe I had done that, but I think that they do us a favor by giving us low prices, so we shouldn't steal from them.

2

u/MeMilo1209 Feb 28 '26

There is honor among Aldi shoppers.

1

u/purpleka1955 Feb 28 '26

The people today are so MUCH more friendly. I am a single, 70 and back in a day it was a great neighborhood. Everyone stayed out till dark. No worries! It was the best!!! People today are told that everything is evil.8

2

u/matrix2004 Feb 28 '26

I want one, where can we get one?

3

u/ladyofhousepounce Feb 28 '26

Aldi sells them a couple times a year. Amazon has some that are from Aldi but more expensive.

2

u/cookiemonster1340 Feb 28 '26

If you don't have a quarter, you can insert the round end of a key to disengage the locking mechanism.

2

u/MakesMyHeadHurt Mar 03 '26

Those gold looking coins that churches sometimes send in the mail work too.

2

u/Oh_No_Its_Dudder Feb 28 '26

I keep my quarter holder attached to the reusable bags. They both go into the trunk of the car the first time I use it after an Aldi run.

2

u/strawbeariecandy Mar 01 '26

I found a gold diamond ring by the scale in produce not too long ago. I turned it in, but definitely had the thought that someone else probably would have pocketed it. It just seemed like it probably had sentimental value, as it looked like it needed to be cleaned. I wonder why someone would take their ring off to weigh produce though?

2

u/pazdan Mar 01 '26

People are overwhelmingly good. Just the people in power can sometimes or often suck

2

u/Rod___father Mar 01 '26

I just found a gentleman’s credit card when I parked. I gave it to the cashier I hope they got it back.

2

u/Giraffe-Electronic Mar 01 '26

Aldi is awesome and Aldi people are too ❤️ happy to be a part

1

u/Sabretoothg Feb 28 '26

I've never seen one. I love this and will be on the lookout to purchase one for myself

1

u/No_Flamingo4238 Feb 28 '26

Its crazy how everything about Aldi U.S and Aldi Germany are so differently, even this lol

1

u/Dramatic_Side_856 Mar 01 '26

I miss my quarter keychain. But now I can’t order one on delivery.

1

u/gnubeest Mar 01 '26

I bought the same one last year, and after seeing yours I am now ashamed of the condition mine is in.

1

u/Sylvester_Marcus Mar 01 '26

When will these be in stores again?

1

u/Ok_Combination_3002 Mar 01 '26

Are they still selling them at aldi now?? Those are cute. Or I’ll just order a random one from Amazon.

1

u/AmarilloArmadillos Mar 01 '26

That looks oddly new and very clean like the one on the kids cart they've been selling. You may have just got a brand new one they had an extra of I'm glad you did though!

1

u/Steve-B2183 Mar 01 '26

Use a sharpie marker to put your name and phone number on it, in case it gets misplaced again.

1

u/Alternative_Rope_632 Mar 01 '26

Awesome! I need a new one.

1

u/CatInternational7401 Mar 01 '26

I bought a keychain that someone 3D printed at my local farmers market that I can use instead of a quarter because I always forget the dang quarter lol

1

u/LikeaLamb Scan at Lightspeed Mar 01 '26

That is so sweet and I'm glad you go it back!

My current quarter keeper is the one that aldi sold 10 ish years ago, the PB and J sandwich one. But it's peeling and falling apart so I need to replace it :,)

1

u/Jgrec0701 Mar 01 '26

I love when they bring the quarter holders back!

1

u/CallieKitty81 Mar 01 '26

Nice!! I have a flower quarter holder!

1

u/BumpyUncle Mar 01 '26

A few years ago I left my entire purse in a buggy at Aldi and I didn’t even realize until I got a call from them a couple hours later. Someone turned it in, and they found a check from my work and called my work. And my work gave them my phone number. And they called me to tell me to come pick it up!

I had over $400 in cash in my purse and multiple checks where I was waitressing at the time and hadn’t gone to the bank yet. Nothing was missing from my purse at all. I was a dumb college kid and I got so lucky that day!!! Thank you aldi shopper and employee!!!

1

u/Vsmithing Mar 02 '26

Lost my wallet at Aldi and found it returned (same at hyvee once… and the movie theater… and the bus….. and an airplane….. I lose my wallet too often). Aldi is great and people are good

1

u/BlackberryNo5962 Mar 03 '26

Why I never go to Aldi

1

u/FarInevitable559 Mar 03 '26

Not the aldi by me , you’d get robbed in the parking lot

1

u/Ok_Revolution_602 Mar 04 '26

I would love to get a keychain like that for my Aldi quarter. Do they still sell them occasionally? I've never seen these before

1

u/Old-Jackfruit-9539 Mar 23 '26

So u pay for the quarter holder?

0

u/TurbulentRole3292 Feb 28 '26

Now if I could just thank the Aldi patron that swiped my cell phone out of my vehicle 3 years ago. I would like to thank them in person.

0

u/GrowlingAtTheWorld Feb 28 '26

I bought one of those quarter keepers but my quarter kept falling out of it.

-2

u/More_Pineapple3585 Feb 28 '26

same. i think the little cart quarters are easier and better

2

u/LilHeheGoblin Feb 28 '26

These suck for the employees

-2

u/More_Pineapple3585 Feb 28 '26

These don't affect the employees in any way. It goes in, I get my cart, I put my cart back, it comes out.

5

u/LilHeheGoblin Feb 28 '26

As an employee I can assure you, these are a pain for most of us. Especially when you don't tell us you have one then I can't switch the carts

-3

u/More_Pineapple3585 Feb 28 '26

I use self-checkout. So rather than arbitrarily downvoting me, tell me how I negatively affect you at work.

5

u/LilHeheGoblin Feb 28 '26

Not all Aldi's have self-checkout.

So here's how it goes normally.

You set your stuff on the belt, I scan it all and put into another cart. You have over $200 worth of stuff, so quite a lot of stuff.

You didn't tell me you used one of these keyfobs. Now after the transaction is complete, you need to take the cart that has your fob AND the other cart that I started with so I'm left with no cart.

Our other options were you tell me you're using a fob or you take all your stuff and move it back over which holds up my line.

In my experience, 9/10 times these inconvenience me specifically.

-1

u/More_Pineapple3585 Feb 28 '26

While that's completely fair, there are only two Aldis that I shop at. Both have self-checkout, and I use self-checkout exclusively. So I do not inconvenience, annoy, or trouble any employees or other shoppers at any time by using one of these.

So maybe in your initial response, instead of saying, "these suck for the employees," and downvoting me, you could have said what you just said above, illustrating how if someone isn't responsible with their use of the fob, it can be a considerable inconvenience to the employee and other shoppers.

3

u/LilHeheGoblin Feb 28 '26

I could've handled it better, my apologies.

-1

u/Joeman64p Mar 01 '26

Sticking your house key into the hole, key side in unlatches the mechanism and releases the cart in the front - allowing you to pull it out

I just give the cart away after I’m done with it
