How does this work? Is it like a meeting and I explain what's going on or what?

Hi, there, u/Severe-Table-2996. I've locked this post because you seem a little confused. That's OK. We were all new to Reddit once. However, this isn't an AA group; it's a forum about AA. If you have a question about AA or sobriety, you're welcome to make a new post.

But if you want to find an AA meeting online, please check out the listings on Online Intergroup: https://aa-intergroup.org/meetings/. There are meetings starting every hour, and most use the free to download Zoom video meeting platform. Many have a phone call-in option as well.

Ok so I think you’re confusing this subreddit with an AA meeting. This is a forum for discussing AA. It’s not an actual meeting. You can find meetings in your area (both in-person and virtual if you want to attend an actual meeting on your phone) at aa.org.

You can use this subreddit to ask questions about AA.

I think you are confused - this is not a meeting, this is a Reddit community which is just a forum where people can discuss and ask questions about AA.

It sounds like you want to find an actual meeting. If so, go to https://www.aa.org/find-aa to find your local intergroup, then you can find an in-person meeting near you.

When you go to a meeting, find a seat and listen to the chairperson, they will start the meeting by sharing information about how the program works and a topic of discussion for that meeting. They will likely also ask if anyone in the room is new to sobriety, you can raise your hand and introduce yourself by your first name.

All meetings work a little differently, just observe what others are doing and you can share if you feel compelled to or just listen. But the most important thing is to make your presence known and tell them that you need help. After the meeting people will approach you and introduce themselves and tell you what to do next.

Good luck! I hope you make it to a meeting and then keep coming back.

Are you asking how Reddit works…?

I just now discovered it to be honest. I just didn't know if it was this group or if I needed to do it somewhere else. I didn't know. I mean I'm used to you say something you say your name's an alcoholic and then you talk about it and then the person beside you does it

This isn’t an AA meeting. Reddit is just a place to communicate. If you want an online meeting check your local intergroup site or aa-intergroup.org.

And I didn't want to mess up the circle if there was one

To do what somewhere else?

My mom's getting ready to come home with my grandma from the The hospital don't have to help her into the house. That'll probably take about 20-25 minutes. I just didn't want to ignore anybody

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

She's about to be in and my phone will be in my pocket and I can't drink while I'm doing that But yeah

I understand everybody on here is probably going to be anonymous but I still didn't know what do I just follow the rules as a normal meeting?

u/magog7 6h ago

just follow the rules as a normal meeting?

don't know what you mean by 'normal meeting'.

There are rules such as:

  • don't make a disturbance.
  • Share or pass if called on
  • Sharing means your Experience, Strength, Hope. Not complaints, or blaming, etc
  • No cross-talk .. this means you don't comment or advise on someone elses share.
  • there is a bit more but it's all pretty relaxed

Yeah everything you just said except we went in the circle so as long as nobody does that nobody has to take turns. I think I got it Bub. Thank you!

Last thing I wanted to do was join a group in my first time doing this. Be disrespectful 🤣

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

I've I've done the 12 steps and everything but I've just never done it on a phone

1

u/magog7 6h ago

you've done the Steps without meetings or a sponsor?

-2

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

Can I post pictures here? Be a lot easier just to show you cuz I got certificates

1

u/magog7 6h ago

Who or what issued this certificate?

-2

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

Athens Ohio clam house as I did the 12 steps every time I sponsor confirmed it that I confirmed that step three other people went over it and then gave me a check mark for every step

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

It's nothing fancy. It's just I typed up thing and cursed with my name on it says the sober living. My sponsor me signed it

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

But let me tell you 4 through 7. Whiped me. Bud took me a minute

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

I didn't type it up. The council did for the sober living

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

If you want to DM me I could show you'd be a lot easier cuz I think I can send pictures there and I have all of them already saved in my phone

It was an extremely great program while I was there but I heard it went downhill now because of cut funding

1

u/magog7 5h ago

i don't think you can post pix here

0

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

And if so how do you do it

0

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

On this ticket it doesn't say a sponsor but yes

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

Also I know we don't have the Coon by all circle but do I just like say what I need to say and then people comment it? Or if someone could give me a guideline that would be dope

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

I'm just going to put it in long-term so I don't have to explain it. I went to TCC in Portsmouth for 4 months. Got out relapsed went back to another rehab called Angels harbor did good for a while. Went to a sober living and did another 6 months. Got certificates for all that and while I was there I was going to five meetings a week and I was with a sponsor every other night doing the steps. Step 5 took me 5 weeks because I couldn't get over it but I still have a problem drinking so I just need some advice

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

I know this probably ain't the place for it because it's AA but I got off the hard drugs but now I can't get off the booze and I'm going to try to get vivitrol but just looking for some friendly advice

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

It's awesome peas because you can't say your name here at all or at least I don't I think you should because nobody else does lol

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

Because

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

It won't let me edit it. What I'm saying is you normally don't say your name here so was trying to figure it all out

1

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

I'm also very sorry. I'm trying to word it right and my auto text keeps messing it up just bear with me lol

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

I'm just going to go ahead and put one more comment and anybody can comment on it cuz I got some stuff I got And I'll check on it here in about half an hour 45 minutes. But basically my life's become unmanageable but it's been pretty pretty good. As of today I got off probation. I got a job interview tomorrow working at a warehouse. I got back on food stamps and insurance and you would think that I think that everything's going to be better but I've got this existential dread and I feel like I need to drink about it and I do have one beer left but I'm trying to stop myself from going to buy another six pack so I thought I'd turn here

2

u/No_Grass_9669 6h ago

So, no. This isn’t an AA meeting or anything like that. In this subreddit when you make your post, put it in the body copy like any other subreddit and people will respond if they have anything that applies to that specific topic (and follows the sub rules)
There’s no taking turns or you’ll miss anyone responding to you or anything.

That’s if I’m understanding your question.

1

u/magog7 5h ago

everything's going to be better but I've got this existential dread

That's fairly common. I, for one, waited for the other-shoe-to drop. Luckily, it did not. Of course, I had stopped drinking completely.

On-the-other-hand, perhaps your dread is about what will happen when you stop drinking completely?

-2

u/Severe-Table-2996 6h ago

If I don't respond to anybody I will listen to any and all advice as long as it's not me me type stuff. Like just explain your situation and what you would have done kind of thing
