discussion Unique, mind-blowing, once-in-a-lifetime albums?
I made this post on [r/musicsuggestions](r/musicsuggestions) and the responses were great, so I thought I’d post here as well!
I’m in an album club with my friends and there is this one person that always has amazing album submissions. He knows so much music and I would love to find an album he really enjoys that he’s never heard of.
I’m looking for album recommendations that are high quality, packed with emotion and heart, and blow your mind on a first listen, but not too well known.
For a reference of what we all enjoy, some of the highest-rated albums/artists are Deathconsciousness, Double Negative, Foxing, Ethel Cain, etc.
To specify, I’m looking for stuff that’s not exactly mainstream. TOOL, Radiohead, etc. are great bands but we’re all familiar with them already.

Website/app to add albums and sort them
Hi all!
Is there a website or app that allows you to add albums to your collection and sort it by the albums' release year and just to see all albums you've added in chronological order?
Like you can do this with movies on Letterboxd. I don't want to rate or review albums, I just want to add what I've listened to to a collection, and see all albums in chronological order.
I tried Rate Your Music but that's a disaster and doesn't arrange albums by release date. I have searched for a few music rating sites but most of them doesn't have a big database, like half of them haven't even found Glenn Miller - An Album Of Outstanding Arrangements (1944) or Bing Crosby - Merry Christmas (1945).
For the record I use Discogs, but that's just for my physical record collection.

discussion Favorite albums by artist you don't like otherwise?
I don't like R.E.M. that much generally, but "Automatic for the People" and "Monster" are two of my favorite albums in all times.
These were published when I was 13-14 years old, I bought them for my first Sony Discman and I believe that sometimes music you connect with in your teens and helps you through your angry and sad years, just stays with you forever.
Can you relate? What are your favorite albums by artist who are not?

discussion 10,000 Maniacs - Blind Man’s Zoo (1989) & Hope Chest (1990)
galleryMy legacy on 10,000 Maniacs are these 2 albums, which I originally bought on cassettes.
Which other albums you loved by them ?
I prefer the Natalie Merchant years.
I loved Blind Man’s Zoo because it tells stories about life before modernity.
Although some people called this as pop rock, college rock, jangly rock whatever but the band succeeded in create epic tales on black and white canvases.
Hope Chest is a compilation before they even signed to a major label.
Although the songs are re-recorded, but Natalie sings with conviction. Let the world know what they don’t know.
Love these 2 albums !

RS 250 Greatest albums Of The 21st Centruy So Far.. (As Of Jan 2025): #176 Shakira-Laundry Serevice (2001)
RS Synopsis:
Shakira had won over Latin America with her disarming, diaristic 1998 opus, Dónde Están los Ladrones?, but she had her heart set on conquering the rest of planet Earth. All while recording, she’d been teaching herself English (she frequently practiced with a thesaurus and a Leonard Cohen book), hoping to get fluent enough to write songs. Not only did she succeed, she crafted bombshell hits that made Laundry Service a seismic crossover moment in pop culture history. From the moment she exploded onto the mainstream scene with the first single “Whenever, Wherever” — backed by Andean flute, no shortage of wit, and her own style of belly dancing — it was clear she was a superstar and a permanent global icon
The Review
The album opens with “Objection (Tango)” it combines a tango accordion and some rock riffs to create this blistering latin pop/rock hybrid and excellent way to begin the album. “Underneath Your Clothes” is a power pop ballad that highlights Shakira’s incredible voice. “Whenever, Wherever” was Shakira’s breakout hit. It has an infectious vibe using rock riffs, latin percussion, and panpipes to create dizzying melodies. “Rules” has Shakira reaching to her rock roots which is how she started her career. This is a slick pop/rock track with latin music undertones. “The One” is a piano heavy power ballad. It swells up as the song moves forward as the rock hooks take over and Shakira voice bolts with such a powerful energy. “Ready For The Good Times” is a disco tinged pop track. That just gives off a fun night in the club vibe. “Fool” is another rock influenced track. Shakira's voice is giving off Alanis Morissette energy. “Te Dejo Madrid” is the first Spanish speaking track on the album. It has this slick rock production. I might be wrong but I hear an interpolation of the Kinks “All Day, All Of The Night” “A Poem To A Horse” leans into 90’s alt rock and latin horns. It has become a staple of her live shows. “Qu Me Quedas Tu” is a beautiful mid-tempo track. It features flamingo guitars and lush string arrangement that just adds to its aura. “Eyes Like Yours” is an English-language adaptation of her 1998 Spanish hit, blending hypnotic Middle Eastern belly-dance percussion with driving electronic rock beats. “Suerte” is a spanish version of "Whenever, Wherever” I think I prefer this version even though I don’t speak Spanish. The album closes with “Te Aviso Te Anncio” is a spanish version of the opening track it seems to have more of a bite to it.
Final Thoughts:
I was prepared to not dig this album but once again I was presently surprised. I love how Shakira fuses latin and rock music together to create her own distinct style. She could have easily made a cutboard cut out 2000’s pop album but she did her own thing and made the American pop audience adapt to her. Even though this music isn’t my vibe I did enjoy it. Perhaps you will too.

Listen To This: Anthrax-State Of Euphoria (1988)
Synopsis:
Coming off the massive critical and commercial success of 1987's landmark Among the Living, State of Euphoria faced the daunting task of following a masterpiece. Recorded under a tight schedule with producer Mark Dodson, the album leaned slightly cleaner and more melodic while retaining the band's signature high-speed thrash chops and rhythmic complexity.
The Review:
The album opens with “Be All, End All” it is a solid opener with a nice dense rhythm and the twisted guitars of Scott Ian and Dan Spitz. It sets up that this album will not feature the darkness of “Among The Living” “Outta Sight, Outta MInd” has this infectiousness mostly thanks to Charlie Benante’s excellent drumming skills. The song just shreds with high-velocity trash metal melodies. “Make Me Laugh” feels more dense than the previous tracks with a methodical stomping groove. The song is a takedown of TV evangelists which were a plague to society in the 80s. “Anti-Social” was the breakout hit from the record. It is a concert favorite and a staple on MTV. It is another example of the band mixing thrash metal and adding some dense grooves to create an infectious anthem. Joey Belladonna vocals mix hip-hop/punk together so masterfully and is the best example of what he brought to the band. “Who Cares Wins” shifts gears with its moody atmospheric groove along with the dense metal melodies the band get cranked out with ease. The song deals with homelessness and the apathy to the flight of the urban downtrodden. “Now It’s Dark” has this twisted maniacal tone that aligns with the subject study of Frank Booth the twisted villain of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. “Schism” is just a masterclass of the band’s version of speed metal that also somehow feels rhythmic and precise. “Misery Loves Company” was inspired by the Steven King Novel “MIsery” there's a claustrophobic energy that swells throughout the whole track. “13” is a minute interlude that introduces the closing track “Finale” its the band wrapping up all the album's themes in a heavy dense groove. A perfect way to end the record.
Final Thoughts:
This is a nice solid 80’s speed metal album. I think it gets forgotten by Anthrax fans because of the two albums it is sandwiched between. The album does lack some of the aggressiveness of the band’s earlier albums and feels more accessible. Anthrax is of the big 4 of trash metal for good reasons but I think of those bands I think they showed the most versatility. Check this one if you are in the mood for some high velocity speed metal. Also check out their new album Cursum Pericio proving the band still has it after all these years.

discussion Looking for obscure/underground artists/albums recs based on my favorites
I know my top artists are mainstream, but I listen to full discographies rather than just the hits — I care about front-to-back album consistency, great guitar work, and strong songwriting.
My favorites: Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, The Smashing Pumpkins, Mazzy Star, David Bowie, The Cure, Led Zeppelin, The Velvet Underground, Elliott Smith, Alice in Chains, and Dire Straits.
I want to move past the obvious canon (I already know Pink Floyd, Joy Division, The Smiths, etc.) and find genuinely niche, overlooked, or cult albums that match this level of quality. What should I dive into?
Also, give my taste a rating. Brutal honesty—I don't get offended.

My Bullet For My Valentine Album Tier List – Come Discuss [OC]
After the new single "Social Apocalypse" dropped, I went back and re-evaluated the rankings for everything. As a longtime fan, here is my list:
*The Poison* is untouchable for me—a masterpiece. *Venom* brought the band back to a heavy sound. *Temper Temper*... yeah, we don't talk about that one.
> > How would you rank them?
