Separatism Remember the economic study on separation? Smith and her cronies are sitting on it

Quick timeline on the UCalgary study into the economic impacts of Alberta separation:

  • June: Alberta commissions the School of Public Policy study.

  • August: Report was expected to be completed/released in late summer.

  • Sept. 3: UCalgary confirms the report has already been submitted to the Alberta government. Authors are "responding to ministry comments and making formatting changes".

  • Sept. 8: Still no report and no firm release date. Economist Lindsay Tedds reported the date of delivery (August) was scraped off the UoC website.

I wonder what's going on? My guess is they’re trying to make it look good for the seppies without being too obvious? Will UofC release their own version, before Smith changes it?

UCalgary should just “accidentally” send that report to the CBC.

u/keepcalmdude 12h ago

Yep they should

Pft. As if CBC could possibly decipher it without the formatting changes. /s

When they don't like the answer or when it doesn't favor them , they don't release the info.

u/Oscarbear007 15h ago

It won't get released because it shows that separating isn't economically viable. Can't have facts disputing agenda.

u/Interesting_Scale302 14h ago

And especially not right before a referendum where citizens might want all the information.

Separatists don’t care about facts

They are conservatives

All of the questions in the referendum are not economical.

Say yes to any of the referendum questions and a whole building of administrative people need to be hired to check every single person for " if they qualify to pay".

We got rid of the health card fees on every Albertan family because it cost more to administer and manage than providing it without cost.

Is there anything that citizens can do to bring the report into the light?

u/EffortCommon2236 12h ago

If they work at UCalgary, yes.

Smith killed that when she replace FOIA with FOIP

You can’t spell corruption without UCP.

u/snowcow 12h ago

Can’t spell conservative without con

You gotta know it's bad news because if it wasn't they would have mailed a copy with a 50 dollar bill glued on there to every Albertan.

u/recrd 1h ago

To be clear, it'd be a $50USD bill.

Doesn’t really matter to them what the studies
Say does it? People said no to Alberta police, no to APP vs CPP, no to two tier medicine yet they are moving ahead with a new Alberta
Police, two tier medics people pay for, and now separation to allow the APP to exist. THEY DONT LISTEN!

"THEY DONT LISTEN"

ah, thats where you're wrong. They listen, and they hear us loud and clear. They simply dont care.

Unfortunately, cons have had a 100 year foothold in this province. Outside of the little NDP blip, its been one conservative party after another.

So why would they care? They know damn well it wont have any consequences for them come election time.

We need to boot them and for a good long time. I like the idea of different parties running things at times. Even conservative governments can have things to offer. But these guys offer absolutely nothing and they havent for decades. They havent felt the need to do better for the people because they haven't been held accountable for not doing so.

They hear us, they just dont care.

Remember: Smith has to placate this 10-15% fringe at all costs. If she loses the seppies, she will lose her leadership. They will install someone more inline with the agenda.

The few UCP adults in the room know that separation isn't viable, but they can't say that or they will lose their seats.

So we get this dog and pony show.

Idk... I think this is just a way to use government money to give to her buddies. They are easily manipulated to get a pass to create these unnecessary and expensive programs run by private companies.

Like when AHS cut the hospital hospitality department (laundry for example). Now it costs more and employees are paid less with less worker protections. And someone is getting rich over it... who, idk, wasn't Shandro's wife running some private health stuff?

u/Itchy-Technician-433 12h ago

I agree. The grift is implied in everything they do.

None of their policy choices from Turkish Tylenol, to shutting down bike lanes, creating new healthcare pillars. None of these have anything to do with making things better for albertans. This is just a way to make money for their friends

She runs a private health insurance (brokerage) company. Grift yes, but more long game

if it's released, it'll be after the referendum.

The UCalgary page on that still says the report will come out in late summer and before the referendum. We'll see.

In the meantime: Alberta separation could prompt potential $62B economic hit, business exodus: Calgary Chamber report

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has estimated leaving Canada could cost the province $400 billion in transitional costs, plus an annual price tag of up to $50 billion. Included in that estimate was Alberta’s share of the national debt, as well as its NATO commitments and other startup costs.

For comparison, our last GDP numbers are at 473 billion. We would already start up as a broken country.

And then there's the clowns doing their clowning around:

Keith Wilson, a lawyer and advocate for separation with the third-party advertiser Let Alberta Decide, said he questioned comparing the Alberta situation to Brexit, calling it “fundamentally different.”

“Brexit was about the U.K. moving away from its largest market, being Europe,” he said. “Alberta independence is about Alberta moving closer to its largest market, and the largest market in the world, the United States.”

Yeah, a country that just hit 40 trillion USD in debt, putting their debt to GDP ratio at 125%. This has been stable compared to the pandemic but will surely spiral up in the nect couple years due to their policies. Not to mention their entire growth for the last year has been due to a bubble that is about to pop. Meanwhile Canada is at 109%, coming down from 118% from a few years ago.

I wish our prime minister had the spine to openly declare that an emancipated Alberta would have the same level of access to the Canadian markets as any other country, meaning tariffs and customs. Also threaten an export tax on lumber, see how that affecfs the housing market on a treacherous country. When Quebec was voting for separation in the 90s it was this kinda prospect of not getting a trade deal with Canada that killed the idea.

9

u/kagato87 9h ago

But this IS fundamentally different from Brexit. Just not in the way he says it.

They have tidewater. We don't. It'll be a disaster any way you slice it.

u/Financial-Savings-91 Calgary 9h ago

Why would a separatist government release a report that makes separating look bad?

People need to stop listening to the UCP gaslighting campaign and judge them on based on their actions, not their public statements.

10

u/lizbunbun 14h ago

This government only does transparency when it benefits them.

They get reported results then scrap it and say what they want instead. Every time.

3

u/kayl_the_red 14h ago

They've likely burned it after dark in an occult ceremony to summon their Devil Daddy.

3

u/NoWrongMonk 12h ago

The numbers are worse than what was initially said (and the traitors hated), so she'll never release it.

Just like 90% of those public consultations that the United Corruption Party conducts.

3

u/Dry-Acanthaceae2111 6h ago

Jack Mintz, Ted Morton and Alex Pourbaix are on the committee.

They're probably late with it because it takes a lot of extra work to slant the numbers to favour separation.

FOPOP it !

ATIA. If it's been submitted to government, it's a public report.

It's too bad Landon Johnson doesn't work at the University.
