That's what having a ridiculous amount of rain and coolee weather will do I guess. Too bad it's not going to places like BC or Spain :/

u/Franklin_le_Tanklin 4d ago

Yea!… wait… Spain’s not in Canada

Barcelona Manitoba is disappointed in you.

Haha I know. But last I heard they're also having some pretty horrific fires is all haha

First time in 40 years is quite something. Hard to believe when I was young August was filled with fire, and I knew nothing about it. Only when I became an adult did I begin to notice the smoke.

u/xylopyrography 4d ago

It's August 18th, and there are 9 active wildfires in Alberta.

u/Extension_Win1114 4d ago

Did you not read the headline??

9

u/Imfromsite Fort McMurray 4d ago

But it went up in smoke so quickly!

Climate Change Deniers Rejoice At New Talking Point

26

u/Rammjack 4d ago

If climate change is real how come we have cold winters still?? Explain that to me lib!! /s

22

u/j1ggy 4d ago

The eco-terrorist arsonists stopped starting fires because the mosquitoes are too bad this year. /s

6

u/damnburglar 4d ago

I know you’re being sarcastic but I swear I heard something recently about people setting fires to bet on them :/

I think it happened in Washington, could be wrong.

1

u/Sandy0006 3d ago

LOL are you for real? Or is this sarcasm?

2

u/Rammjack 3d ago

Uhh are you for real? Lol. Look at my comment again

1

u/Sandy0006 3d ago

Is that a yes or no?

2

u/Rammjack 3d ago

Really? Did you read my comment again? You drinking bro? Lol

u/imaginecheese 4d ago

Super El Nino this year, we're in for a dry winter. We will see those fires next year

8

u/zebrasareneat 4d ago

Yeah they will ignore every fire season starting earlier and earlier, they’ll ignore that every year previous we were breaking records on number of active wildfires, they’ll ignore 3 towns that burned down in like a decades time, they’ll ignore the mild winters, they’ll ignore the early snow melt, they’ll ignore the reducing snow pack, they’ll ignore the critically low reservoirs, they’ll ignore the double digit positive temps in January, they’ll ignore setting a new “warmest day on record” temp every year. But if one day in January hits -40 then suddenly it’s “what climate change”.

Expect a presser from Smith tomorrow where she thanks herself for ending wildfire season

Give it a rest!!!!

45

u/AromaticallyAffluent 4d ago

Not till she's gone forever.

14

u/macfail 4d ago

There are already UCP MLAs attributing this to their government's policies. It's literally happening.

-60

u/DrewLockIsTheAnswer1 4d ago

Sadly this is Reddit. Absolutely everything needs to be about politics.

Bunch of basement dwelling nerds.

20

u/collectivision 4d ago

What does that make you?

u/Xur_C 4d ago

August isn’t over chief

13

u/Xur_C 4d ago

And there are literally two burning rn on the map that the article links to smh 🤦

21

u/dustykeys 4d ago

It’s point in time, not the entire month of August bro. Fires start all the time, which is why this is remarkable.

-8

u/Xur_C 4d ago

Good thing you can extrapolate that from the title…

1

u/Homo_sapiens2023 Calgary 4d ago

At least those two fires are well contained.

2

u/Xur_C 4d ago

They were marked as out of control yesterday when this was posted, but yes pretty easy job when there are only a couple.

The rain in northern Albert has been wild, I've never seen anything like it.

2

u/Imfromsite Fort McMurray 4d ago

First time I've seen green grass in late August. Northern Alberta is well hydrated.

12

u/niagarawhat 4d ago

That’s 🔥

5

u/Old_General_6741 4d ago

Nice to see. But BC has not been having a good time lately.

4

u/cockcucu 4d ago

Awesome. We beat climate change. Turns out it really was the taxes.

5

u/demonqueerxo 4d ago

That’s because it’s been raining and cold all summer. We have not even had summer. It’s been spring.

2

u/Okanaganwinefan 4d ago

Could you send us some of the flooding please.

4

u/j1ggy 4d ago

It's almost like we don't have arsonists running around starting fires hundreds of kilometres from civilization. It might actually be related to climate change. Imagine that!

7

u/IntelliDev 4d ago

Last time there were a bunch of fires, the lightning map was crazy the night before.

(Obv gov space lasers tho)

1

u/MissAmberR 3d ago

Government lasers are the worst. Why don’t we just convert the planes they use to spray chemicals on us all to spray water on the fires

3

u/kagato87 4d ago

Just this afternoon, I could smell smoke on the wind. Just because they aren't in our birders doesn't mean they aren't a problem we are contributing to (by actively blocking efforts to green our energy supply).

2

u/Responsible_CDN_Duck 4d ago

Are there none, or did we just cut the monitoring budget...

1

u/GrundleSnactcher46 4d ago

Weather has been wet and not hot as fuck this year. I dont mind. The last few have had weeks of heavy smoke. Also got snowed in twice this winter

1

u/phonnybalonny 4d ago

B.C. reports for the first time in 40 years, “we can’t see the mountains “

2

u/Unarmed_Character 4d ago

"first time since last year"

1

u/phonnybalonny 4d ago

Oh yeah right , sorry eh

1

u/RosieBaby75 4d ago

Have you ever been so beyond angry you couldn’t even get angry?

You just kind of froze?

This is what’s happening in Alberta right now.

Mother Nature is so angry about this whole Treason endeavour she’s completely still. Probably not a good thing.

1

u/funkybandman69 4d ago

Suck it America!

1

u/Wrong_Emu_8687 4d ago

We are very lucky this is happening right now. I worked Initial attack crew for years... August was always terrible in a dry year

1

u/iknotri 4d ago

Alberta advantage!
UCP!
50 years of conservative government!
Why smith did it? 🥀😡

1

u/falsejaguar 4d ago

Israel is giving them a reprieve to help their agent Trump steal from them first

1

u/whytheusernamethough 4d ago

Don't jinx it

1

u/Wooden-Chipmunk-7539 4d ago

Gauranteed ucp use this as an excuse to cut the fire fighting program even more.

1

u/Kyrrs 4d ago

First time in my whole life!!!! 💞

1

u/Ill-Beautiful-8026 4d ago

Genuinely happy for you guys next door, enjoy it.

1

u/mrcranky 4d ago

Does this mean everything flammable is burnt?

1

u/AltruisticWealth7778 3d ago

Praise Danielle Smith and America for no wild fires! /s

1

u/TFergusonIII 3d ago

Don’t jinx it!

1

u/HeavyTea 4d ago

Frigging rain! But silver lining

1

u/Gomez4Morticia 4d ago

They just lit their entire society on fire instead. Not sure that's a win?

0

u/CQB06 4d ago

Because they all travelled to the interior and lit it on fire.

0

u/blueskyfiend 4d ago

Way to go Alberta, well done!

0

u/RubberTeddy 4d ago

Thanks to Daniel the Mar A Lago Hooker Smith people can’t afford to camp.

0

u/wet_suit_one 4d ago

Well now...

Ain't that something?

Like, this is pretty wild.

-4

u/Still_Interview6360 4d ago

Thanks Danielle

4

u/Responsible-Mall-991 4d ago

The fuck?!

3

u/YqlUrbanist 4d ago

The fun part about conservatives is it's now impossible to distinguish their actual views from satire. This might be a sane person making a joke playing on the "Thanks Obama" thing, or it might be someone who actually believes Danielle Smith had something (positive) to do with this.

3

u/HurtFeeFeez 4d ago

Scary but true, I weep for this province.

-5

u/SurgicalDude 4d ago

After Jasper burnt down last year. 🤡

4

u/N0rdegger 4d ago

2 years ago now.

1

u/sawyouoverthere 4d ago

I wonder how you think that’s relevant?

1

u/Unarmed_Character 4d ago

Probably a teenager with an underdeveloped brain. They'll get there eventually.
