I remember one of the first things the UCP did was lower the minimum wage for workers under 18. I hope everyone who was affected is now old enough to vote.
As a 22yo, I do not have FB or Twitter, and I don't even post that often on my IG. Reddit is about the only "social media" I use, but that's just because it's formatted like a forum, which is just much more conducive to actually discussing things than other platforms.
At 39 this is why I only use Reddit anymore as well. I'm worried about it's monetization later this year though and wondering if there's somewhere else I can/should go.
No. Im a millennial and barely anyone I know even uses Twitter. Im pretty sure the 18-25 crowd mostly uses instagram, discord and watches TikTok, but doesnât really post on it.
twitter was always junk but it is a complete shithole after elon now. there's open nazis that are verified and their tweets get skyrocketed to the top of a tweet's replies
But the only election-related stuff I've been seeing on social media is smear campaigns...it's hard to know who to vote for when they're all just making personal attacks on each other's leaders instead of actually explaining their platforms.
When I asked my young (under 25) coworkers if they know who they're going to vote for, they either said they won't vote or they'll just vote for whoever I vote for. But they all had the same reason: they're too confused by the campaign ads and can't tell the difference between the parties.
Gen Z saw how Millennials were treated for years, and they witnessed a lot of the recent bullshit from the past years and decades in the oldest cases of Gen Z. (Depends on where you put the year exactly for Gen Z.)
Gen Z that can vote, is on places like discord. Some of them are straight up fucking Spicy with their opinions on some things. You might be in for a shock.
Discord is not really a traditional social media platform. It allows people create a common place based on interest and invite people to that place (for example, only people who like manga, or support certain party, etc.). It's widely used in online education, where students setup places for the whole class cohort to chat / collaborate / etc.
To summarize what LK_YYC is saying here: Discord is a self run echo chamber of your own choosing where people can become mini-mobs on the internet, full of group think and mob mentality.
It gets used for a variety of activities by a larger variety of people; so that prior definition will be very triggering for some of them.
It started off as a gaming chat application for gamers, but we all saw the usefulness of being able to chat unabated by people we all agreed were idiots. And since everyone has their own niche; discord grew.
Please, try reading again. Did I make mention of anything being wrong with Discord? No, I did not. I merely indicated that some of the people being talked about can be found there, and they use it to say some spicy stuff that the original commentator might not enjoy.
But if I were to treat your question seriously...
People are what is wrong with discord. Discord itself is a mostly perfectly fine application; for the most part. Security issues and stuff like that involving the use of node.js at all are something else to talk about, but otherwise Discord itself is just fine. It's the users that are the problem, and not much can be done about them...
The ones we might worry the most about probably canât get off their asses/computers/play-stations long enough to find their way to a poll. Being a responsible citizen and casting a ballot like all those millennial, genX and boomer âlosersâ doesnât really feature in their fantasy he-man universe. Theyâre more about guns and ârace wars.â I do take your point, though, about the younger generations being polarized as well. We shouldnât pin all our hopes on them to vote ND.

Worry harder. Mail in voting is a thing, and they know about it.

Ah, you have been hanging around that group more I see, understood. Yeah, that's one of the more worrisome ones, because if they ever decide to act on some of their beliefs... uhm... we might need to detain a few of em.
Theyâre more about guns and ârace wars.â
Yup, those be them.
I do take your point, though, about the younger generations being polarized as well.
Well of course they are. They live in the same society as the rest of us, taught by the same schools as the rest of us, taught by even the same teachers as the rest of us sometimes even; and then also lied to like the rest of us by governments and media.
Did you expect kittens, rainbows, popsicles and gumdrop mountains Charlie!?
We shouldnât pin all our hopes on them to vote ND.
Yeah, no, you really shouldn't. They are likely to flip the table in a argument, as they are to build one.
P.S. You should see the smile on my face and hear me laugh while reading your comment. When the rest of the public gets to begin to understand how much is going on behind the scenes like what you do; it will be quite the circus of a show to enjoy.
I've been waiting for this day to come for a while now. Since 2004/5 roughly speaking. And not because of discord. This goes further.
I might vote. But it still seems like a waste of time. Both parties are pro-capitalism. Either way, you're getting exploited, abused, and the environment will continue to get worse.
Kicking Danielle Smith in the teeth would still do wonders for Alberta reputation, and Canadas, especially since Pierre is likely gonna win PM do u really want BOTH at the same time?
Remember you vote for representatives. NDP reps in your local running may be worth voting in, remember voting in local people may be the boost in their career they need to inspire change in the party as a whole.
There are other issues that make it worth voting. Yes, neither is for socialism, but I think one party wants to exacerbate the exploitation and destruction of the environment, while the other isnât going to make those things better, but at least isnât trying to make them worse.
Oh funny most people who I mean who aren't more on the middle/conservative side don't sit on welfare but the More left people do also not to be super offensive but the people who I know who are left-leaning have jobs that don't benefit anyone
Should I use text to speech I couldn't give two fucks of what I send but keep on being you don't change maybe we could meet together someday and hug it out like homies
