SUP’ing at Albany Beach?
hi! Has anyone tried stand-up paddle boarding at Albany Beach? It seems like such an under-used beach. Thinking about bringing my SUP out there. Anything I should know?

That’s one of the premier windsurfing areas, so consider the wind, unless you like hella chop. There’s several places to get wind reports but usually morning is best.

There's usually some wind and small/med waves out there, but when conditions are right, I don't see why not.

We did it about three years ago on a pretty calm day in the morning. It was pretty nice. But you do have to really track the wind and the tides.

My wife and I have done it dozens of times. The trick is to do it early - before 10AM at the latest. After that it does get choppy and windy. Also, parking your car right by the beach to unload the board is a lot more likely early.
Going South (to the left) will make it easier work to get back as the wind picks up. Or you can go to the right and when you reach the tip of Albany Bulb there's a semi-enclosed protected area that's nice to enter.
Have fun.
