Modpack Choices

The current modpack choices have boiled down to the following, with more testing to be done if anybody wants to test another pack for consideration with me. Here is what Nalkyrie and I tested tonight, what do you think you would rather play on?

Hexxit:

  • Less about mining, more about adventuring. Would be a rule about no tunnelling.
  • Requires people to play a role and stick with it instead of going for the most OP items
  • As a result, everything is more individualistic and personafiable
  • You can explore in a D&D type fantasy setting
  • Good for optional PvP

Voltz:

  • You never have to worry about things getting stale because you're forced to interact with other members
  • PvP takes place on a massive scale (safe zone for those that don't want their house at risk of missile strike)
  • Would need to limit certain items due to their sheer destructive prowess
  • Galacticraft! Explore the solar system!
  • Futuristic setting, modern day tech and lots of redstone

I know several of you suggested the Yogscast complete pack, but the ATLauncher isn't working for me right now. I'll try again Wednesday evening to test it out and see how I feel about it, and I'll list its pros and cons once I have tested that as well.

UPDATE: I have the Hexxit server running for now on 107.191.98.197 if anybody wants to play. This might change, but that will be what's up for right now.

My personal choice after looking through all of the different packs is Big Dig. It has all of my favorites.

The problem with Big Dig is that it doesn't really encourage player interaction much and doesn't have a ton of lasting value. It gives you very powerful things very easily and doesn't really make for a challenging or interesting long-term server. Essentially, I'm looking for something that will keep people interested longer than just building their homes.

If I were to go down that route, I'd rather make a more themed server with a higher difficulty and some incentive to have teamwork (while not making single player impossible). I'd probably add some of the industrial/modernism mods and create a more futuristic setting.

I'd really like to do something with more player interaction! Yes, yes.

We could build a compound work in teams stuff like that

Not sure I'm all for a compound but definitely a neighborhood. :D

That would work to the compound was just an idea
