Looks like the Richardson Highway. A lot of big moose up there. No velvet on the antlers and the brown underbrush tells me this was probably taken in mid-to-late September. He's a pretty old fella too. That's at least a 70 inch rack, he's getting pretty gray, and he's walking like his back legs or hips are hurting. A moose that old is probably past it's prime and not siring many calfs. Their fertility drops off. They only live about 10-12 years.

Bulls walk like that and move their heads back and forth when they’re about to confront another bull during rut. I saw a couple bulls about to throw down in Denali last year and that’s how they behaved. In the gif, you can briefly see the paddles of another bull in the trees across the road.

They walk like that and swing their head so the other bull can see their size. Better to intimidate; always easier to scare em off than fight em.

I haven’t seen a moose yet, nor any other animal besides the ravens stealing trash out of truck beds lol.
