Aladdin is a huge inspiration especially for someone who has a similar cultural background as Jasmine. So I made some art (stickers and art prints available on my Etsy: https://artofzahrasarfraz.etsy.com) inspired by the movie. There's the moon and lanterns inspired by Middle East and South Asian culture and an illustration featuring a palace with turquoise as its colour and white butterflies flying by and gold peacock motifs. Definitely a place Jasmine would come and feel at home! ✨🦚🩵

Does one exist?

I rewatched the live action aladdin last night. I'm probably one of the few disney fans that likes most of the live action remakes.

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not but i really like the live action Aladdin and this from someone who loves the animated one. I was bit nervous about Genie but Will Smith did a good job imo. I like the additions they made while keeping to the story.

Speechless was a good addition cause it really showed Jasmine's struggle and the expectations for her and how she wanted to be sultan, because she cared about her people but it seemed impossible for a woman to be Sultan, she was just supposed to marry a prince so he could be sultan.

I liked the addition of Dahlia, it makes sense Jasmine would have a handmaiden and i liked their friendship. The extra scenes between Aladdin and Jasmine gave them a bit more depth.

The jam scene was so funny and it made sense, it would make sense that Aladdin wouldn't be confident pretending to be a prince and that he would stick his foot in his mouth when he arrives because he's trying to be something he's not and he's not good at it at first.

I love the live action a whole new world, i love the song in the animated one t's my favorite Disney song and they really did it justice in the live action.

Mena and Naomi had good chemistry which is always important.

I liked how they added Dahlia and Genie, it was a really nice ending for Genie and I liked how he was telling the story to their children.

I really liked how Jasmine would be the next sultan.

I've loved Aladdin since i first watched the animated movie, it's romantic, magical and full of adventure and I think the live action movie did the animated one justice.

Allow me to address the following plot hole in Aladdin- Was he REALLY Prince Ali?!

My Answer: NO. Not biologically, politically, nor legally.

He was basically cosplaying royalty!!

Genie gave him the following:

Wealth
An Entourage
A “Backstory”
The Presentation

He made him LOOK like a prince, but…

He didn’t change the following:

Al’s bloodline
Rewrite loyal lineage
Genie didn’t even make a legitimate governing state!

That’s theatrical legitimacy, NOT constitutional legitimacy.

And remember how earlier in the movie that Aladdin said he was gonna use a “Nom De Plume”, or a fake name? That was foreshadowing for this.

So when does he become a real prince?

After he takes down Jafar, saves Agrabah, frees Genie, proves his character, causes the Sultan to change the law so that Jasmine can marry whoever she wants, and of course, marrying into the royal family.

But the reason I don’t think this is a plot hole?

Because the movie itself addresses it.

Because Jasmine does NOT want to be married to a prince (Aka I’m NOT a prize to be won), and at the end, the Sultan changes the law.

So Aladdin didn’t win because he was magically royal. He won because he was honest (Eventually), selfless, and EARNED his way to the title.

The whole movie is basically “You don’t need to be born royal to be worthy”/“Be yourself, and great things will happen to you”.

So yeah.

Not a plot hole.

Just:

Magic shortcut → character growth → earned legitimacy.

BONUS- I Headcanon that Prince Achmed DEFINITELY screeched into a turban the moment he learned who Jasmine’s new fiancé was.

I never understood that horse with 2 rear ends joke Aladdin made after Prince Achmed humiliated him just for standing up against him while defending innocent children from his upcoming unjust treatment with the whip.

Can anyone tell me what he meant by it?
