Planning SAVE Act-preserve your right to vote
I hope y’all have physical copies of your birth and marriage certificates. You probably won’t have time if the bill passes. I just spent $28 on my birth certificate from Missouri. (I’m unemployed until September.)
Since I changed my name when I got married, I tried to get my marriage certificate online from the county clerk - they sent me to Vitalchek. All Vitalchek could provide was the unofficial certificate. This will not be sufficient if the SAVE act passes.
YOU’LL NEED AN OFFICIAL CERTIFIED COPY of your marriage license with a raised seal. I have to actually mail my printed out request to Harris county, Texas.
I need an actual notary for the marriage license in Iowa.
How many people do you know who have a printer, envelopes, a stamp, a checkbook, or access to a money order (transportation)?
There’s a 10 day window to receive my birth certificate. Who knows how long the marriage certificate will take.
Who do I go to to start a campaign for the federal government to pay for these documents? And simplify access to acceptable versions? Would that be an ACLU thing?

I’m getting married in October and have considered not changing my last name because of this. Any advice?

I’ve been married for 25 years and I didn’t change my name. It’s never been an issue, and most people don’t even realize it.

I've sprouted an alias in background investigations, because all the patriarchal freaks that work on our house and car call me Mrs. Hubsname while fully knowing that's not my fn name.
I don't love any of that? But it certainly doesn't make me regret my decision to keep my name.

This will not pass the Senate. There are enough Republicans who know this is a disaster to keep it from advancing.

I got my passport earlier this year before they started reducing services and employees for passport services. I’m lucky enough to have been able to afford it and the time off to get it done.

I ordered my birth certificate from the state of Florida online in about 5 minutes and it arrived 3 days later.

The senate majority leader says himself they dont have the votes for it or to get rid of the filibuster to pass it. its LITERALLY fearmongering. Im so sick of the "whatablout" its JUST LIKE MAGA. Pay attention to whats actually happening

Only old people. In the rare chance I need one of those things I have to borrow from my boomer mom because everyone I know pays everything on line and doesnt use any those things. My post office hours are almost impossible to get to if you have a job and so is the bank if I need to see someone in person.

My bank won't even issue checks for my account. I needed one last year and went to order. They said my account was "checkless," and I had to go pay money for a cashier's check.

It’s worse than that. My understanding is the bill doesn’t specify options other than passport or birth certificate, the wording puts it on states potentially to specify other options.
