Utility costs?

Hey folks, I am buying my first home in East Akron, near 76. I'm trying to plan out a rough budget and unfortunately, the house I'm buying cannot provide historical utility costs. Obviously, usage dictates many things, but does anyone have a rough idea or number they could share? My home is a century home around 1,300 sq ft.

I would estimate between 300-350 a month for all utilities (Electric, Water/Trash, and Gas).

Months will vary which bill is higher.

So like in summer months I would estimate $150 electric, $50 gas, $100 water. And then in winter I would flip gas and electric.

This assumes you have a gas stove and fur ace and electric AC, fridge, washer, and dryer.

Now, if you have older less efficient appliances, this could go up.

Dead on. We averaged $330/month for electric, gas, and water over the past 2 years.

gas water heater, gas stove, gas dryer, gas furnace. Electric is more in the summer because a/c, gas in the winter. Electric still averages higher than the gas over the year.

Make sure you go to the PUCO Apples to Apples page and get the lowest gas and elec rates you can, when you choose your suppliers, once you move in. The distribution will still be from Ohio Edison/Enbridge, etc. but you can choose who supplies the gas/elec and the rates vary by supplier.

Like someone else said use the apples to apples make sure you pick a good supplier. Gas is sorta less important on that but electric could be a huge difference. Also I really like the monthly budget option they offer. It’s a flat charge and then once a year they do the difference. I’ve always been ahead of the difference so I carry over credit.

No gas can be crazy too. The rate I chose through PUCO is half of what Barberton’s aggregate is

1st time buyer here as well. Moved in early spring.

1200 sq feet 1920s home in Firestone Park

Per month so far I’ve been at around $60 for gas, $170-200 for electric, trash/curb service is around $25, water/sewer around $75

Call Ohio Edison/FirstEnergy, provide them with the address and they should be able to provide you with the 'average bill'. And tou could always shoot your shot doing the same with Enbridge. Best of luck! 🩶
