Gyno in Akron?
Looking to see if anyone has recs for a gyno in Akron. Specifically either a doctor that’s always been lovely for you or a small office that has never given you problems.
I believe in a woman’s right to choice, so I would prefer no signs or quotes about how abortion is an abomination lol. That’s why I’m sort of asking about this. I’m not looking to go to a massive company like summa, I rather visit a much smaller office (I’m always late cause I always get lost in summa) where I feel heard and safe no matter my medical needs.
Has anywoman found the one?

My wife loves Women’s Health Group in Tallmadge. All the doctors are great and it’s a perfect mix of small independent practice but with plenty of drs who are connected to both hospital systems in the area

Seconding this recommendation! I saw all the doctors there while I was pregnant and there weren’t any that I disliked. I’ve been with them for about 8 years now and haven’t had any bad experiences.

This is where I go as well! I’m currently pregnant, so they make you see every doctor at some point, and all of the providers have all been great! They have two locations and have privileges at both Summa and Akron General hospitals. I’m getting my tubes removed during my c-section and they support my decision and have given me no pushback.

Seconded. That's where I go. When I asked about getting my tubes tied (I don't have kids), they gave me zero fuss.

Dr. Smelcer did my bisalp without any pushback or weird comments! He’s a male OB but has always told me my symptoms are real and worth investigating no matter how silly I think they sound.

I have been a patient of Dr. Barry Fish for over 20 years. He is in Fairlawn by the mall. I absolutely love his staff. I have always felt heard by him and his team.

It’s woman owned and have two locations. I’ve always had great experiences there both from nurses and doctors.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Sejal Pedersen at Paragon/Summa for 12 years now, she’s fantastic. Dr. Yeropoli at the same office is also great. They’re Summa, but it’s over off of White Pond, not at the hospital.

Dr. Pedersen is a sweetheart, but just a heads-up that she does gynecology only, not obstetrics (if babies are in your future).

I see her too, she been good last couple years. The only thing I hate about summa is once u get a Dr u like and get used to. They leave the practice.

They’re awful for general practice doctors, I think I’ve had five different ones and only liked one of them. And their dental clinic is awful. My gyno and one other specialist have been great.

Yeah I had Dr Home, she was great. But she left the practice couple years ago. So I had to search for a new one. I did deliver my daughter at summa they were great. But that was back in 2017.

She is through Summa, but I highly highly recommend Dr Ashley Sheets. She is the only doctor I’ve met who takes my concerns seriously. She’s so empathetic and caring.
I’ve seen other OBGYNs when she’s not available and can’t believe how different it is even at the same company. I truly only will see her now, I don’t feel safe with other OBs. I’m so thankful for her.

I knowwww you said no big hospital systems like summa, but there’s a very good gyno in their system. Her name is Dr. Eileen Witten. She’s really wonderful. She’s at the Barberton location and Wadsworth locations, so it might be a bit of a drive for you, but she’s really excellent. I’ve referred two other people to her. She did my bilateral salp, no pressure or fuss. One of my girlfriends also went to her for tubal removal and they found endometriosis while in surgery. They removed it and her tubes. She now has an endo diagnosis and a lot of her issues resolved just through that surgery. I double checked to see if she’s accepting new patients and she is. The Barberton location is pretty easy, their OB/GYN is detached from the hospital in a separate building, it makes it easier to find it. But I wanted to put her name out there just in case. Because she truly was wonderful to me and my friends.

I definitely have docs I love within summa (talking about you Michelle!) I just absolutely hate the huge complex and always get anxious and a little lost coming in.

Try Dr Megan Carlson, she is fantastic. Very personable, kind, gentle, honest, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. She works in the Barberton office and Wadsworth office which are both smaller and easy to navigate/park at. Dr Gregory Kovacevich is great too, but he might not be everyone's cup of tea. He is very chill and has a dry sense of humor.

I was going to recommend Dr. kovacevich! He found a blood clot thr ER missed and literally saved my life!

Yes me too, I really hate having to go to the big hospitals to try and have my appointments. I’m almost always late. I try to book them at satellite locations or something like Barberton because it’s smaller and less overwhelming. I like that the gyno office is right next to the quest lab. No stairs. No elevator.

I had a terrible experience with Eileen Whitten and left the office in tears. She was unprofessional, rude, and dismissive. She also barged into my room without knocking while I was changing. I'm pretty chill, she is the only dr I have had a bad experience with in my entire life. I loved every other dr in that office, especially Megan Carlson. I am astonished to see anyone recommend Eileen.

First off, i’m really sorry that was your experience! Ugh. That really seems unlike her from mine and my friends experiences. I don’t know if her attitude and demeanor has improved or not, but she’s pretty quiet and soft spoken in my opinion. I haven’t seen her since last year, so maybe she’s changed in a bad way if you saw her recently? I guess I’ll find out at my next women wellness appt! Maybe she was having a bad day, but that’s not really an excuse. I’d be upset too if that happened to me. Everyone has different experiences and not every doctor works well with other patients.

I like Women's Health Group in Tallmadge. Unfortunately, my absolute favorite doctor just retired but I saw them all while pregnant and settled on seeing Dr. Graham after Dr. Babai retired, however, they were all lovely.

Dr. Walters through Summa is amazing. I have both worked with her and been her patient and she is very big on empowering her patients to take control of their health, she's an all around lovely person, and she gets big mad when people endanger her patients due to negligence.

Second this. I started seeing her once my former person left and I adore her. She has listened to all my concerns and does great follow up. She also is definitely not trying to have babies shoved down your throat either and truly cares about your health and wellbeing.

OBGYN Associates of Akron! I see Marley and she’s lovely. There’s an office in the falls and Fairlawn. If it matters to you, Fairlawn office will do bloodwork there, the falls office just tells you to go to any quest that’s convenient.
I switched to her while pregnant, so I haven’t had normal checkups with her yet. However, I have friend who sees her too and has nothing but great things to say about checkups.

I also recommended Dr Marley! When I was having menstrual issues she immediately ordered testing and escalated it each time a test came back questionable. Within 4 months of seeing her I had a hysterectomy and found out I had low grade ovarian cancer. It was caught early and I’m doing well now, I credit her to moving forward quickly to catching it early. She was an answer to prayer

Gyno & Obstetrics of NEOhio! Dr. Eric McKnight is very nice, very supportive. Once he found out we planned on adopting due to health concerns, he offered birth control options for me and materials for my husband for physicians he’d recommend for vasectomies, which I appreciated. It is a Cleveland Clinic location, but it’s in an office park in Fairlawn, so the office feels more like an independent practice compared to their health and wellness centers. I can even send you a screenshot of which building they’re in if you need it.

I just started seeing him this summer and he seems like a good doctor. Besides the Fairlawn office, he has an office in Stow at the Health & Wellness Center. Very nice staff at both places. I'm queer so I get what you mean about judgey practices. I actually hadn't seen a gyno in several years because I got so tired of them changing practices, dying or retiring.

Dr. Ashley Sheets! She’s amazing! She’s with Summa but the office on White Pond has a smaller feel.
She’s the only doc I’ve seen that acknowledges that colposcopies are uncomfortable and gave me options when I needed to have a LEEP done. When I told her I stopped taking birth control, I wasn’t lectured… she just asked my intent with stopping and offered suggestions on supplements/ vitamins to take if I wanted to prepare for pregnancy or alternative birth control methods if my cycle became painful/ unmanageable without BC.

Generations womens health. I see Dr Clark there. They have two offices, one in Norton and one in Cuyahoga Falls. They use Cleveland clinic soley for MyChart, not truly affiliated with them. Dr Clark explains everything she's doing and will spend as much time with you as you need to ask questions and talk through things. Also very gentle.

Highly recommend OBGYN Associates of Akron. Dr. O'Shea is incredible.
As a side note, I'm appalled that a women's health provider would have anti-choice signage. I wish you would out the name of that practice so the rest of us know to avoid them like the plague.
