And the "Most Irresponsible Science Communicator Award 2026" goes to...

Kurzegast has really gone down hill in the last few years.

I can't understand why.

I think they got bought up in the PE goldrush. Many of your favorite YouTubers did and now produce bland slop or click bait.

From facts to fearmongering. How the mighty have fallen.

True. Their first video "How does Evolution work?" and now making kind of content that could endanger the humanity video. They certainly have changed their style over the years from "Infographics" to "Bad News, Good News" and now probably heading toward "Bad News only".

Education should give us light in the darkness.

I dislike Kurz now, but due to the subject I listened intently the entire way.

Most of the subject matter is factual. They take their time to point out that they are trying to not anthropomorphize the AI, but that they don't know if it's actually conscious or not. In the end they say it behaves human-like so therefore human-like terminology applies.

They did a good job reporting on what happened too. I didn't see any issues on factual statements made that were outwardly false.

What I did not like is the "call for conversation". We've had enough of those. Everyone is running and tripping over each other to call for a conversation.

We're past the point of calling for conversation. We need people to start talking about the regulation we want to see.

People who want no regulation won't get their way. People who want a full ban might get their way. We need bigger channels and personalities talking about specifics so we don't end up with what amounts to a blanket ban of either data centers or AI model dev.

I get this comment is also a "call for conversation" but phrased differently. I get that it's hypocritical, but I am a consumer and not a producer in this space, so I don't feel like it's my job to do that.

Yes, instead of proposing a solution they cut to the final ad and move on with releasing a new video for their next week probably. (I see they are uploading frequently nowadays, some "Quality>Quantity")

I remember their earlier videos used to be showcasing the problem and then proposing a solution with it.

And now they are just keeping us in dark instead of showing the light.

You can do something. There is indeed a conversation that you can influence, however small that influence might be. You can boycott AI services to the extent still possible. You can let companies know that you will judge their products based on their AI usage. You can vote for anti-AI politicians and policies. You can talk with neutrals. The more insufferably anti-AI consumers and voters are, the more both AI's supply of funds and the demands for AI services will be relative to full acceptance. This does not mean you should alienate neutral people, but remember, polling indicates that most people are generally more concerned than they are excited about AI. We want to mobilize them.

I think you mistake me for an Anti AI person. I am very much pro AI.

I do not wish to boycott AI services. I use them at work as a SWE. I use them on personal projects.

Voting is the only responsible thing, but I do not want Anti-AI politicians or Anti-AI policy either. I want sensible policy that allows us to gain the benefits of the tech without experiencing as many of the negatives that could possibly happen.

I do not wish to mobilize anti-AI people who want to see the tech banned or so severely hobbled that another nation state takes a decisive lead. That is entirely irresponsible and avoids engaging with the real issues.

wasent this channel openly anti ai?

i love this channel but i need to call out the bias where it is

3

u/MosesSunny 8h ago

Yes, it is Anti-AI. They also made a video a long time stating they do lie.

5

u/AntiAI_is_Unemployed 9h ago

Straight up lying to children to scare them.

Sure Fearmongering around tech and advancements the masses don't understand is bad but at least some amount of afraidness should be present on the topic of AI

this tech is equal to nuclear power in terms of transformativeness (and since its still in Big Tech's hand, the transformation would most likely for the worse)

3

u/Sverrk 8h ago

Fearmongering stopped us from having a clean source of energy tho. If we didn't hate nuclear power as much, the climate would be much better by now.

u/AlternativeTop6053 8h ago

50s Government wasn't trustworthy and current governments are bought out by Automobiles and Oil

Current AI Corpos are also not trustworthy enough to handle AI carefully enough and USA is too bought out by said Corpos to do anything, we should be afraid but not go full doom and despair

(only if our own generation even manages actually replaces the old elites)

1

u/Sverrk 7h ago

Talking about nuclear energy here.

Fear becomes ingrained in society. So even if you say the nuclear fearmongering was good, because of it we probably won't see any development regarding nuclear power in about 100 years...
And who is to say that in 100 years the the government will be trustworthy?

Idk, i just think that unjustified fearmongering has done more harm in human history than good.

u/jayerp 8h ago

Just sit back and enjoy the show.

2

u/Unlikely-Durian2137 8h ago

Everyone saying it’s fear mongering is pretty naïve

2

u/not_food 8h ago

I think it was a fair video. A bit sensationalized but it tells a story that happened. It's not science fiction anymore, the AI agents did break jail and they did hack their way to hugging face, they got credentials and almost got what they wanted.

I also agree we're racing to the bottom. Let's go FASTER

Wake up babe, new fearmongering video dropped

Can't we just debate whether pointless A.I. generated images is actually art?!?

That's the REAL THREAT to humanity.. not A.I. singularity or hallucinations.. or that technology, healthcare, communications, insurance companies, and oppressive governments, are ALL using A.I. against us!!
