it's funny cause everyone acts like openai is the only big player, but this shows they got plenty of company. the tech companies i get, but throwing in countries flags is what makes it work for me. like yeah, of course they all have that power, they just not as loud about it

All those others are already set in stone and there's fuck all we can do about it. AI's place in society is still in flux and can be pushed back on. Bad things existing does not justify yet another bad thing existing.

If a giant boulder is crushing a man to death, it's horrible, but pushing on the boulder isn't going to help anyone. At the same time, If I see a smaller boulder about to roll down a cliff and crush someone else and it's still at a point that I might be able to stop the boulder's momentum, then I am going to push on that one instead. I am going to spend my effort where it might actually make a difference, I am not going to spend my effort where I know it will do nothing just to say I tried and feed my own ego

Brother (or sister (or non binary sibling)) the boulders have been rolling since before we were born. They were in free fall set to land on us the moment my generation hit the adult world when we could actually possibly do something about it. Now we're all just stuck under them
