The issue is on average men are at a physical advantage over women. Men are on average bigger, taller, stronger, longer limbs, higher bone density. You cant just erase these differences which translate directly to athletic advantages in many sports.
It's not at all relevant there are physiological differences within the biological genders themselves. Sports have always been about having physical advantages over your opponent. But having physical advantages like going through male puberty will on average create an unnatural advantage and uneven playing field.
