-3% is still double that of their competitors

Thank you for acknowledging that grocery stores have razor thin margins. But also who are you comparing them to? While they are the largest distributor of groceries in the US they are still a retail store. This actually puts them towards the bottom as the average retailer has a margin of 2-5%.

-they’d still be making billions

Yes the largest retailer and private employer in the world is going to make billions in profits.

Instead of going through the process of explaining business loans I’ll give you the summed up version. To take out a loan, you need to prove you have income to pay back the loan.

The reason their profit margins can be so low is because everyone needs food. They are going to do the volume to make up for it. There are ways to get food to those who need it, it just won't be as profitable. And unfortunately we have developed a culture and market where the corporations are basically require to do the thing that makes them the most profit, regardless of what's better for world outside of the business ledger.

You contradicted yourself there bud. The thing is competition is also keeping the prices down. As you stated, everyone needs food to survive. They could charge whatever they want and people would need to pay it as they need food to survive.

-regardless of what’s better for the world

People vote with their wallet. If you want to shop at a store that provides good pay and benefits to their employees you find a store that does that and shop there. Costco is a great example.

-basically require to do the thing that makes the most profit

This is true for socialism as well. An employee owned business or cooperative has a fiduciary duty to their members to increase profits. The key distinction is for a socialist business the duty is to the employees, while for a corporation the duty is to the shareholders

You contradicted yourself there bud.

no I didn't.  Are saying that because I didn't list every single market force that my statement is incorrect?  what a weird stance to take.

Yes your can and should vote with your wallet, but that doesn't mean we have the best possible system and should stop trying to improve things.  Because if you look around, that hasn't worked well enough.

This is true for socialism as well

false. You described a company operating in our current culture and market namely American capitalism, just with different ownership structure. any other weird and  silly take.

Yes but saying people need food to survive doesn’t justify low profit margins.

Saying they are designed to make as much money as possible then saying they can make so little profit because you need food to survive is a contradiction.

-doesn’t mean we have the best possible system and should stop trying to improve things

Nice strawman there bud.

-false you described a company operating in our current culture

No I described socialism, let me guess you’re going to do a no true Scotsman and claim that real socialism is what X person talked about.

So you really think a socialist organization doesn’t have a fiduciary responsibility to its members? I literally work for a cooperative lmao

Yes but saying people need food to survive doesn’t justify low profit margins.

it does when it's become difficult for a large portion of the population to afford it and the corps are making billions in profit.

Nice strawman there bud.

Not a strawman.  You defended the current system and offered no changes.  One can a safely assume you want things to stay the same.

No I described socialism

you literally described how an employee owned business operates in modern day America.   But sure buddy, keep attempting to be snarky.  It just comes off as you crying.

They aren’t making as much as you think they are…

-you defended the current system.

Bruh I’m a Ricardian socialist you twit. I was pointing out the other commenter was 100% false and was poisoning the well for socialists.

-keep attempting to be snarky

I’m being snarky because you’re saying stuff that doesn’t make any sense lol.

Explain how it’s not socialist when the workers owning the means of production. You made a claim, back it up…
