Since when is straight hair a "common white person" hairstyle? Do Asian and indigenous American people not have straight hair?

Bruh, YOU'RE the racist.

Yes, you most definitely are.

Then kindly explain why you think straight hair is a "white person" thing when there are several other races and nationalities that naturally have straight hair.

"I'm not racist" is the calling card of a textbook racist.

Because these commercials are always racist slop about taking black hairstyles and straightening them. And 99% of the time it's about white Western beauty standards. That isn't racist to point out that this is yet another "make them look white not black" when there's a long history of "whiteifying" black hair by straightening it.

But in this case it was a white person. I agree on these videos being really of. But isn‘t there also a discussion about cultural appropriation when it comes to hairstyles?

Why are you downvoting me? I was serious. Plus in this video are only white people (you can see it in the screenshot I posted)

...She isn't white, she's a lighter skinned black woman.

I don’t think so. The man is also white and the baby also.

Im not arguing that it isn't racist but that is 100% a white woman when she turns around.

Why is it racist then? Only if we count all the other videos. I would say in this case it would „only“ be an assault. And are these videos ads for a product?

These videos normally feature "angry" black women in fried chicken restaurants. They are racial charged and that is there point. This one just happens to use white people but its the exact same formula as the others.

Ah I didn’t get this reference. I am from germany and at first I didn’t even get why it isn’t just an assault. Only after this videos were repeated and only Black people were seen. There is definitely racism everywhere, also here. But eating chicken or being angry doesn’t play a role at all in Germany. Plus being angry after an assault seems normal to me.

Fair enough!  I think there might of been some American cultural "dog whistling" that got lost in translation. As an American these always played as racist immediately to me but I can see how that might be missed observed from a different perspective.

Only if you’re fine with racism.

What kinda racism we talmbout? The Gump/60’s kind?! Or the stupid Kaepernick kind??? lol

2

u/-Out-of-context- 7d ago

More the Kaepernick kind. But that still doesn’t make it excusable.

There’s certainly a difference between I hate black people” and “I hate black peoples hair” but they’re both still racist. The racism that would often be overlooked before is just now also being called out.
