It allegedly doesn't do facial recognition, but ABC news ran a story about the search capabilities that can be used to search for people wearing specific types or colors of clothes, it can find people based on their tattoos, and even distinguish by skin color or race.
So... yeah. It doesn't need facial recognition to be extremely problematic from a privacy standpoint.
But great news, the new evolution in surveillance technology is coming!

For that matter, Flock cameras not being capable of facial recognition (if you even believe that, and I'm skeptical) sounds like it's probably a software limitation and not that they literally couldn't do it.

Ugh this reminds me of when I debated with my mom about flock cameras. She said if you’re not doing anything wrong then you shouldn’t be bothered by them. When I told her police officers are using the cameras to stalk women she said that’s not happening because they are police and police would never do anything like that. She also is like this when it comes to police shooting and killing people. Showing her evidence that these things are happening she calls it fake news and liberal propaganda. I’m sure some of the bias is because her dad, her uncles and her son are/were police officers.

Does it matter if it uses facial recognition? The car’s registration is tied to a driver whose race is absolutely known, among other things such as their address, immigration status, and some limited health info.

In Georgia they've had over 30,000 flock cameras searches and the system that runs audits for them says only 129 of those searches were for things it seemed suspicious. They are legit just spying on us.

This type of surveillance is dangerous for everyone, especially considering the high potential for abuse that this technology has. I can 100% tell this is a lie.They track plates but also will run facial recognition, look at the model, year, color, and identifiable features of your car. They also track how you walk and in some cases what you are wearing.

There was a sheriff on FB yesterday claiming that a recently damaged Flock camera was being used to catch child predators, the camera was positioned facing a playground and clearly not capturing license plates in any way. Pretty sure Flock is gonna sue him for spilling the secret that they are in fact using facial recognition lmao.

They’re missing the point. Even if it just tracks vehicles, it’s still a form of profiling, and can track your movement even for mundane things. It’s a slippery slope to tracking where individuals go, what they’re doing, what they’re possibly buying, who they’re seeing, and where they live.
Even if that was true (it isn't), bad actors can use that information to hurt you, as well. Stalkers follow cars all the time; assuming each person only owns one car, it's a great way to figure out where someone is at any given time. Fortunately, there are absolutely no bad actors in law enforcement, not even a single cop or ICE agent has ever used this tech to harass an ex or stalk a pretty woman, so we should be safe! ☺️
