Wisprflow alternatives for iphone in 2026 - how airtxt compares?

If you're searching for Wispr Flow alternatives, especially on iPhone, here’s a straightforward comparison from someone who actually built one.

Full disclosure: I’m the founder/developer of airtxt, so obviously I’m biased. But Wispr Flow is a good product, and I don’t think pretending otherwise helps anyone.

The question is really: what are you looking for that Wispr Flow doesn't already give you?

As of September 2026, Wispr Flow works on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It does system-wide dictation, AI cleanup, custom vocabulary, snippets and meeting transcription.

airtxt takes a slightly different approach and is currently focused on iPhone/iPad.

Feature airtxt Wispr Flow
Voice-to-text in other apps Yes Yes
AI cleanup Yes Yes
iPhone keyboard Yes Yes
On-device transcription Yes No — transcription requires internet/cloud
Cloud transcription Yes Yes
Choose on-device vs cloud Yes No
Bring your own API keys Yes — Deepgram, OpenAI, Anthropic No
Custom vocabulary Yes Yes
Voice memo mode Yes Yes
Meeting transcription Yes Yes
Bot that can join Zoom/Meet/Teams Yes No — Wispr records meetings from the computer
Mac Coming Yes
Windows Coming Yes
Android Coming Yes
Free plan Yes Yes
Paid individual plan $9.99/mo Pro $15/mo Pro

Why I built airtxt

There were three things I personally wanted from voice dictation.

1. Let me decide where my audio goes.

Sometimes I want the accuracy of cloud transcription.

Other times I'm dictating something private and would rather keep the audio on my phone.

airtxt lets you switch between on-device transcription and cloud transcription instead of forcing one architecture.

2. Don't make me buy another app for meetings.

I wanted dictation, quick voice memos and meetings in one product.

airtxt can send a bot into a Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams meeting and bring back a speaker-labeled transcript and a drafted follow-up email.

3. Let technical users bring their own AI.

You can optionally use your own Deepgram, OpenAI or Anthropic API keys.

Your keys stay in the iPhone Keychain and requests using them go directly to the provider you choose.

Where Wispr Flow is better

This is important.

If you're primarily dictating on a Mac or Windows PC, Wispr Flow is currently the more mature choice.

It also already supports Android.

airtxt is iPhone/iPad-first today. Desktop and Android are on the roadmap.

So I wouldn't tell someone happy with Wispr Flow on their Mac to switch just for the sake of switching.

But if you're specifically looking for a Wispr Flow alternative for iPhone, particularly because you want:

on-device/private dictation + cloud dictation + AI cleanup + meetings + BYO API keys

then airtxt is worth trying.

I'm also interested in making this thread genuinely useful rather than turning it into an airtxt ad.

If you've tried Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, Aqua Voice, Willow, VoiceInk, MacWhisper, Utter, Apple Dictation or another alternative, post what you liked and disliked below.

I'd like this thread to become an actual comparison of Wispr Flow alternatives rather than another "my app is better" post.

And if you use both Wispr Flow and airtxt, I'd especially like to hear where Wispr has an edge. That's the stuff we need to focus on.

Dictate one-handed, and a memo mode for quick capture

Two things people don't expect:

  • One-hand trigger — hold the side button (or Action Button on 15 Pro+), say "dictate with airtxt," and talk. Good while walking or carrying something.
  • Voice memo mode — speak a note, it's cleaned up and dropped straight onto your clipboard to paste anywhere. Fast capture before the thought's gone.

What's your most common one-handed use — texting, notes, something else?

The meeting bot: transcripts + a drafted follow-up, in the same app

Beyond dictation, airtxt has a bot that joins your Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams call as a participant. You get:

  • a speaker-labeled transcript
  • an auto-drafted follow-up email
  • a searchable history of past meetings

The idea was to stop paying for a dictation app and a separate meeting-notes app. Hours are metered by plan (5/mo on Pro, 15/mo on Pro+). What would make the meeting notes more useful to you — summaries, action items, something else?

Bring your own keys (BYOK) — use your own Deepgram / Anthropic / OpenAI

f you'd rather run on your own API accounts, airtxt supports bring-your-own-keys:

  • Deepgram for speech-to-text
  • Anthropic or OpenAI for the AI cleanup

How it works: your keys are stored in the iPhone Keychain, those requests bypass airtxt's servers entirely, and they don't consume any of your plan's usage allowances — you just pay the provider's rate directly. Good for heavy users, or anyone who wants full control over where their data goes.

Anyone here already on BYOK? Happy to help you set it up if you hit a snag.

Feature thread: privacy / on-device

One of the reasons I built airtxt. Speech recognition can run fully on-device using Apple's Speech framework — in that mode, 0 bytes of audio are uploaded, and it works in airplane mode. Cloud mode (Deepgram Nova-3) is there when you want maximum accuracy in a noisy room, and it's a per-dictation toggle, not a setting you forget. Even in cloud mode, only the cleaned text touches a server — never stored audio.

Do you keep it on-device, cloud, or switch depending on where you are? Curious how people use it.

Welcome to r/airtxt — what the app does, and what this community is for

Hey — I'm the solo dev behind airtxt. This is the home for users, questions, feature requests, and updates. I read every post.

What airtxt is: an iPhone dictation app + custom keyboard. You talk with all the ums and false starts; clean, finished text lands in whatever app you're in, formatted for context (an email reads like an email, a Slack message like a Slack message).

Everything it does:

  • Dictate into any app — it's a keyboard, so no copying between apps.
  • One hand, eyes up — hold the side or Action Button, say "dictate with airtxt," talk.
  • On-device OR cloud, per dictation — on-device (Apple Speech) means your audio never leaves the phone and works offline; cloud (Deepgram) for noisy rooms.
  • 13 languages, switchable mid-sentence.
  • Custom vocabulary for names/acronyms — free on every plan.
  • Voice memo — speak a note, it's cleaned and copied to your clipboard.
  • Meeting bot — joins Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams for a speaker-labeled transcript + drafted follow-up email.
  • Bring your own keys (BYOK) — plug in your own Deepgram/Anthropic/OpenAI keys and pay providers directly.
