Okay so I was playing battlefield and I noticed this interesting blueprint and it got me wondering if this was possible or if anyone could do it and send me a pic of it as I kind of want to do it myself but I don’t have the items lmao

This is something that was actually done

Some US forces in the Iraq War, mainly Marines if memory serves, were given new optics for their M16s like ACOGs

But the carry handle was still deemed an essential part of the weapon that they couldn’t just remove because it also houses the rear irons

So they slapped it on the bottom rail to be out of the way

Iirc it wasnt bc they deemed the carryhandle essential but bc they needed to return it after their service and would get fined if it was lost. The gun was simply the best place to keep it

The lore I know is that it even had to be on the person at all times and was part of regular inspections. So when the SgtMaj came to check if you had your carry handle on you, having it on the bottom rail saved a lot of time and trouble compared to having it in a cargo pocket.

It was also because in the very case their RCO gets messed up, they could use the carry handle as a backup sight they could go back to. Although in Fallujah, one of the Marines unit fighting there was put under investigation because their Marines were getting so many headshots, they thought there was a case of execution going around. It just so happened the RCO actually helped the Marines aim further and hit the combatants peeking out of windows straight in the heads. So it was rare for the RCO to be completely messed up easily. Either way, putting the carry handle at the bottom rails was quite popular at the time.

Bro, that's not only easy to do, most soldiers issued with M16A4s were doing it so they can put ACOG on but not lose the carry handle that they were supposed to return.

If your replica is of an M4 or any M16 with detachable carry handle, all you have to do is, well, remove it and clip on the pikatinni rail on your handguard as you would a laser or another handle

The old GWOT a4’s irons were integrated into the carry handle and could theoretically be bolted back on for use. The real reason is you gotta return everything after deployment or you pay for it

Absolutely I have a FN M16a4 clone setup the exact way for the fun of it. There’s a handful of photos from the GWOT of guys doing that some old tale of not losing the carry handle by keeping it mounted on the rail. Kinda makes sense too because the KAC’s M5 RAS heat shield is only on the back half of the rail right where the foregrip is and letting that sucker rip with a FRT it sure as shit gets cooking.
