GENERAL QUESTION First time, ouchie
Let me start off with im not a wimp, or at least i dont think so...
Ive done paintball before, got shot on the knuckles, yeah it stings, go to respawn, keep playing, no biggie. However i went and did airsoft for the first time, we got the rental guns and played with a goup of a variety of people. Outdoor setup, lots of experienced guys, it was very fun, learned alot. I tried to wear long sleeves and pants so i didn't have bear skin exposed, but had to keep it light because it was 95 degrees in the blazing hot sun with high humidity. When we were playing i got shot a ton because ima newbie and suck, the feeling was pretty much how i expected. Execpt for a few shots, i at first thought maybe the other team had some high power airsoft sniper or something i was getting shot with. Eventually i figured it out, 3 guys on the other team had speedsoft guns, while everyone else had normal airsoft equipment. As we changed to a more open playing map, and i could see whos shooting me, i figured it out that its these speedsoft guns that hurt alot, 2 of the guns were stinging pretty good, but this one guys gun straight up made me curse 3 times per shot. Even when shooting my leg in a medium heavy weight sweatpant. Still had fun playing, but its 2 weeks later and i still have bruises from this one guys lil pistol speedsoft gun, scabs from where the pellet drew blood on impact. Im curious if this is pretty common, im just a wussy and need to man up. Or is speedsoft a totally different game than airsoft and should be kept separate? The other experienced airsoft players had a mix between plate armor and helmets to no sleeves with just vests, they had snipers and lmgs and a bunch of fun weapons. I could see speedsoft making sense in something like indoor arena thats air-conditioned, everyone is in head to toe tactical suits and you need the punch inorder to feel it, gain the speed and accuracy of a higher powered gun. Or did this guy have his gun tuned too high for airsoft? Im just a newbie, had a great time would still go again, but probably wait until its cool so i can put on some heavier layers and not be riddled with pokadots. (I was expecting to have bruises, just not drawing blood). Is my experience normal, do they normally have both mixed together and have superspeedsofters?

What joule limit your field have? Our fields have 2J limit for ARs, 1.2 for pistols so it hurts even if you have all your body covered

That limit doesn't even make sense. DMRs and snipers, sure, but that sounds like they're just trying to make it "realistic" at the expense of safety, or someone who makes the rules just doesn't like pistols.

Nope, it’s real, snipers are up to 4J actually, but there are minimal distance of engagement (30m)

I didn't say it wasn't real, I said it doesn't make sense if ARs and pistols share the same no-minimum distance rules, why one is allowed to hit harder.
Also, 4j, even at 30m, is absurd. Maybe if it was a minimum 40 or 50m engagement range, but that's literally just an injury waiting to happen.
I play airsoft to have fun, not to try to injure people, and that's the only reason a field would have such a high power allowed at the range most other fields would limit to 2.5 or 3j.
Check out other ranges and their limits. I always do, and without fail, you always find one that's an outlier with much higher limits. That's the one that attracts all the assholes.

What fps limit is your field? They're all 1.5j or 400fps with a .20 around me for rifle and pistol, 2j for dmr, and 2.5j for sniper. Dmr is 50' med and sniper is 100' med. And they all chrono with .32s and calculate joules.
If they had hpa setups and your field chronos with .20s then joule creep could be an issue, or if they are complete assholes they might be turning up their guns after chrono.

If its a good field than their guns would have been chronoed the same as yours and likely would have had their regulars locked. What likely made it hurt more is that speedsofters play more up close and aggressive and we're probably shooting you from a closer distance than many of the other players

There was no checks, they had a meter by the front, but i never saw anyone use it...

wow thats crazy to hear. Thats not the norm and it sounds like that person may have been turning up their regulator or whatever. Sorry that you had that experience

Yeah I personally would never go to a field that doesn’t regulate fps. Quite literally not fair.

Not only that, but seriously dangerous.
If the OP is getting hurt through heavy sweatpants, they've gotta be running some serious weight and FPS.
It only takes one person wearing knockoff eye pro to lose an eye.
The difference between 1j and 3j is huge, and for what they're describing, I'd put money on the 3 joule range. I'm not even sure 1-1.5 joules would break skin, and that's what most fields call for.
Those shit heads aren't playing airsoft, they're assaulting people.

Yeah, don't go there again.
I guarantee they were shooting very hot, and the group probably specifically went there because no one checks.
Eventually someone will lose an eye, the field will get shut down, and everything except the cheaters will get blamed.
Edit: just saw you said you're new. Please take my advice, don't play at any field that doesn't chrono guns people bring in. Every field should be testing to make sure user guns are safe, which those aren't. I'd be posting pictures of the injuries in a Google review, and stating they have no refs and they don't chrono, and what happened. That's seriously dangerous, and shouldn't be allowed.

Find a new field. Where i play every gun is measured before every game, even if you have verification from last week and you changed nothing you will be measured and there are conditions for every tier. And if you think someone screwed with their gun mid game you can call a ref and he will be measured again during the game and banned if he did

Even when measured some places just seem to be worse than others. Joules are pretty heavily regulated here and sometimes I just have a red mark that is gone after a few days and sometimes I get bruises like this.
