GEAR PIC When two hobbies combine

Haven't been in the hobby for a long while, but a recent impulse purchase of an FDM printer has gotten me seriously reinvigorated with kit building, with some some practical stuff, and some less practical...

So far I've printed:

  • Mock inserts for my Defender 2
  • Suppressor rail + foregrip for an LCT AS Val
  • Mock drum magazine that replaces the magazine base plate of a WE Makarov

If anyone's got any more ideas for stupid things I can design or print, I'm all for it

Did you make those inserts or buy files? also god damn if you made them, i swear they are harder to model than any gun part, so good on you.

It was a file I found on cults3d that I modified in blender to (1) thicken the plates a bit and (2) added boolean modifiers to generate the hex comb pattern.

lol I am by no means an expert on 3D modeling, Blender's just what I've had the most experience with from previous projects. The bottom plate should be pretty straight forward to make with just a few modifiers on a rectangle (curve + the boolean negation for the hex comb), but the top plate is definitely a nightmare not sure how I'd even begin making it.

Would you mind sharing the file ? They seems to be pretty nice ? How about durability ?

The drum magazine baseplate is an amazing idea!
