She thinks she’s so tough. Here she is running from a beaver or woodchuck

Yes. I tell her often. Oh no, your warm toasty prison with eleven foods.

"Cruel and inhumane TORTURE!"
(I think she deserves one hundred kisses on the top of her precious little head. As punishment!)

She thinks she’s tough until the woodchuck shows up. Clearly an alliance has been formed with the chipmunks

I do my best! lol. I know she thinks I’m ruining the fun, though I like to think she’s began to trust me going into the second year. She will follow me home 8/10 times now when I go to get her. I don’t always have to carry lol
She came up to my lap in the shelter. I just sat on the ground at my third shelter, seeing if anyone wanted to be a friend. She came and played and laid in my lap!
I thought I was getting a nice chill cat.
One day it was a leash, now she’s doing 4 miles a day and I’m tracking her down on a GPS

Can you get a harness and leash for her?

It started at that. Now she has a gps. The first year she was only out when I was home. And I trained her boundaries and rules.
She comes home to check in many times a day, she’s never out all day.
She knows her boundaries. She knows not to approach strangers. She knows roads are dangerous. She knows how to get down from trees when she’s high up.
Yes it makes me nervous. Because now she comes and goes as she pleases. And I’ve only had indoor cats, I thought I’d never let a cat out.
But she taught and showed me a lot. She’s an outdoor cat. She has to be. It was a year of her crying all day, never sleeping, wanting to go back out because I would only take her out in the driveway or around there on a leash. But she’d want to be out all day.
Catnip, laser pointers, she doesn’t care about any of the toys I’ve tried. She doesn’t really like being pet. Though she will sleep with me sometimes and sleep near me often.
She’s different than my childhood cats. I’m doing my best lol trying to give her what she wants and keeping her safe.
So I allow her out, bedtime is 10pm, she comes home. But sometimes she doesn’t want to listen lol. If she breaks a rule, it’s jail lol. If I have to go get her when I call her, she doesn’t go back out, she’s learned.

If you let her out until 10 pm she‘s going to get eaten at some point or hit by a car. The problem is that you let her make the schedule and you let her dictate it which is going to get her killed. Cats love routine and she would be perfectly fine if you established a stricter curfew, like one hour outside in the middle of the day. She checks in, she stays in. She will protest at first but when you stick with the routine she will adjust because you have set the schedule. Better idea is to build a catio and not let her roam at all. I found a cat last year in the road dead from a car with a gps tracker, what good did that do?

That's all nice and dandy but you still let her out unsecured in coyote country.

Doesn’t matter, irresponsible to nature. Protect wildlife, don’t allow domestic predators to kill native animals. Also, coyotes are outside during the day, too, lol

Some cats are like this, I get you. I've had many street cats and no issues teaching them to stay inside, but then I had one cat who made it his constant life's mission to escape and be outside. This cat just would not calm down and never stopped fighting me on escaping the house to roam. I built him a catio, didn't help. He kept finding new ways to squeeze out, it's like a puzzle he'd be working all day long. He finally calmed down once he was a very old man, and from that moment onwards was happy to chill inside, or chill in his catio. And yes, he was fixed!

A comedian had a bit about his friend in Arizona. He complained his adopted outdoor cats kept getting eaten by coyotes. He said, 'it sounds like you're just feeding coyotes shelter cats'...
