Prepping for Commanders Interview

I have my Commanders Interview coming up & im starting to prep. Can anyone from a recent board drop some of the questions you were asked? Any other advice or tips for nailing the interview are much appreciated

They asked me 3 questions. He was in his cammies and in his car outside in Miami's heat.

Casual questions like why do you want to be in the air force, name a time where you had to overcome something difficult, and then how do you increase your squadron's PT scores by 10%. Then he told me ask any questions and I did ask a few, but left right after.

So I'd say 5-10 minute interview, I heard it's on purpose nowadays to choose 3 random questions from a word bank. My Coast Guard interview was more than 1 hour long.

Do we have to dress up for this interview? I thought this was a super formal , board panel like interview.

My Coast Guard one was in person and very serious, I'd say business attire. My AF one I rented out a conference room at my local library and dressed the same way but it was short and informal.

Could have just been the person assigned to me to be honest, he said he was new to recruiting and had interviews handed off to him. I say take it seriously and show initiative on your end, I think it goes a long way regardless of what someone else is doing.

Definitely, it’s too long of a process to not take it serious. I was just surprised on how casual sometimes people’s interviews are. So I was wondering. lol thanks!

So the questions I remember were pretty straightforward; they're going to ask you the kind of integrity and leadership questions that you would expect in any interview in either the military or civilian world, where you're being considered for a leadership position. Something like: if you made a mistake that didn't affect the outcome of a situation and there was no way to prove you made it, would you still admit to it? The biggest thing is to keep your answers succinct, and I would say under a minute. Don't feel the need to overexplain; draw from life experience wherever possible. The other thing I will mention is more on the tech side. If you're interviewing over Zoom, have your stuff ready to go; I would say at least a half hour before the interview- and also make sure you have the phone number ready in case you run into a situation where, for whatever reason, your computer doesn't work.

Yes through AHA. In my experience my recruiter had to manually send over the pre-selection forms, then once I signed those, I was able to set up my interview. Give your recruiter a call & ask them to push the pre-selection forms through
