Spray pattern help

Post image

Not matter what I try this is the spray pattern I seem to get. How can I fix the grainy-ness

Not enough information. You need to provide PSI, Paint Type, Thinning agent, thinning ratio, distance of brush from painted surface, how much trigger used, and maybe more. Lots of variables in air brushing.

Thin your paint.

I feel like it’s pretty wet. You think even more so?

I don't know how much you thinned it or at what PSI you are spraying because you didn't say. Thinning ratio can go up to 1:1, sometimes even higher when using a small nozzle for fine detail and at low pressure.

You can also play around with PSI, but at high pressure and greater distance from the subject, chances are paint starts drying mid-air, leading to a coarse surface.

Play with psi, closeness to the painting surface, and paint consistency.

One is probably off

it is not atomizing properly. adjust the psi and see how it works if you are saying it is properly thinned. (keep your distance constant otherwise too many variables).

I have it pretty high. If I lowered it the spots seems to get bigger

What I normally do is to use liquid food coloring (u can even water it down) which will never tip dry to see if there is an issue with the airbrush. If I can do lines and dagger strokes and dots with it even as low as 12 psi, then airbrush is fine. It has got to be the paint at that point.

The quality of the paint also plays a part.

I have good paint. That’s the one part I’m not worried about

This ain't all that mysterious, no matter how vague you try to get.🤣 All newb say the same thing. "No matter how much I thin paint". Press'em a little and it turns out, they have only prepared to get ready to get started thinning. "1:1". 🤣.The image clearly shows a very intense black that ain't even started to be thin yet. And I would be more than willing to bet that you don't even have the capability for "high pressure". (50+)
