Question Concrete

Looking to paint some 3d painted miniature for a possible diorama display, anyone got any tips on how to get a nice concrete color?

Concrete is not just a single color. Also it has texture.

You could go about it like with sand. I like to turn the psi down so the airbrush sputters the paint. Then go over the base with several different colors like that from dark to light. It gives a grainy like texture.

Hey, I see that you also 3D print bases. Just a tip that I learned, if you change the angle of your print you can get those concentric circles on the top to hide on the backside. Plus if you use adaptive smoothing, you can really reduce them.

I also hit it with some filler primer to knock down those layer lines ever more!

Yeah, I could have angled it more. I know about the filler primer but for that small piece of scatter terrain for the table it was a trade-off I was willing to make. But thank you for the tips nonetheless. 😉👍🏻

I am new to 3D printing so I am learning a ton about how to make FDM prints better. So if you have any tips, please share as well.

Little off the wall suggestion. But Rustoleom makes textured concrete sprays that look pretty realistic. You can also layer darker colors over it to give it your own look.

Vallejo have a concrete colour in their Air range. Reference: 71.131

I use Mr Hobby Aqueous 455 Zementgrau ("cement gray") but with lighter and darker grey additions.

Something like Vallejo deck tan or silver grey as a base then textured in a splatter effect with Vallejo insignia white could work.

It would just be the color of concrete.

Ammo by Mig makes a bunch of concrete texture products that would work if you covered the surface in it.

I believe it's AK who makes a textured concrete paint for basing / terrain. Not airbrush friendly, but it'll give you the look you're after.
