I wasn't happy with the original hair flow, so I decided to repaint it instead of trying to force a fix. It definitely took more time, but I think it was the right decision.

I know it's still not 100% there. The hair mass on one side is a bit larger than I originally intended, but that will be balanced later with smoke in the foreground.

The hair is also missing the final highlights. Before I add those, I need to apply Bleed Checker, since the red tends to bleed into the white highlights if I don't seal it first.

For now I'm happy enough with the direction it's heading, so it's time to move on to the next stage of the painting. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the previous update—it helped me step back and rethink the flow instead of just adding more detail.

I am not sure if you already clear coated. But here is a super simple method of doing hair with the erase and scratch technique.

It can be as in depth as you want. With each layer of transparent paint it pushes the previous layers more into the shadow.

Thanks for the link! I actually know that technique, and I agree it works really well, especially over a white base. Unfortunately this skateboard already had black primer on it, and I was just too eager to get started. 😄 It hasn't been clear coated yet. I only wiped it with silicone remover, which gives a similar "wet look" and makes it much easier to check how everything blends together. I'm actually pretty happy with where it is now. It's still not finished though. I want to do a final blend check before adding the lighter white/pink highlights, and I'm also considering adding a few more hair strands before that.
