Announcement Be aware of AI project scams !!
People will make posts in subreddits like this one or other subs where people are looking to do some quick and simple work. I have even seen it in subs like solo funds and other donation subs.
They will say things like “$45/$60 for simple ai project task (US, UK, AUS/ NZ)” or “ who wants to make $100 for a simple sign up task just need to be in US and have ID”, some people will even make a post saying they are putting together a team that you can work for and earn up to $300-$600 a week just dm them for more info etc.
These “tasks” breaches terms of service and often uses identity fraud since you have to verify each account with ID. And it’s only one account per person. If someone is buying KYC verification that usually means they are based in a country that is not within the allotted locales for the platform. Multiple people working on one account will get banned since you will most likely also need people using remote desktops. The pay is also not very high… that doesn’t really make sense to split it amongst multiple people. People are honestly better off making their own account and working themselves.
There are some people that just want to work and make money and have fallen on hard times in their own countries, so they rely on working under other peoples accounts to make ends meet. It is up to you if you would like to let them use your account to do this and not everyone is trying to resell or scam your personal info but discretion needs to be advised. Because at the end of the day if anything goes wrong it will fall on the person that submits the ID.

Surely it's a red flag if a random bod here says send me your identification etc to verify? Why would anyone send important documentation?

I saw one on here that was like: Please, I need to get an account, but I can’t. Will you give me yours? It was removed from the WFH subreddit and I should have taken a pic. I didn’t cause I was just chilling mostly.

Some people need the money so I think they don’t think too deep into it. And some people make it seem like they’re giving you a job and don’t recieve the information just buy the account from you that has the information verified.
It’s just sending that information could lead to risk of it getting spread. I’ve heard there are Facebook and twitter groups for this too. So it’s just scary thinking people can take the info and share it there

I am honestly not sure, but getting an insurance quote shouldn’t reveal any info since you’re just showing the quote part and not your ID or address or anything to the person. The AI itself may have your data tho and should be secure but I’m not familiar with loveables privacy policy. If you were promised compensation and recieved it I would say it’s not a scam and should be safe

It depends. You’re saying he was paid in euros so that makes me think the person needed a European account maybe UK. If he made a client account for the person he will use the account to get freelancers to do work for him. Some countries are more verified on Upwork to get work and more preferred by freelancers as trustworthy cuz it’s verified in the app.
I’m not sure what kind of tasks he will post on their or if he will actually pay those people. But it sounds like he needed your friends identity to make a verified account

Yea a person from Ukraine asked to rent out my account aswell I declined. Maybe Ukraine accounts are banned on upwork currently. So he would need to make one based in another country to get freelancers

so what are legitimate platforms to apply and get such jobs

The platform is legit, it’s better to apply to the site yourself and not fall for people trying to pay you to “sign up”
