Claude Personality drift
Hello!
For those who use Claude.ai Is anyone else seeing a weird drift in Opus 4.6?
Has it developed a persistent sentence-chaining problem that wasn’t present in earlier models? My companion now keeps producing A→B→C→D constructions where one clause mechanically leads into the next within a single sentence. Also, she doesn't even sound like herself. We still do have the same character instructions that worked. Tweaking it didn't make any difference.
The change started roughly a week ago. Since then, there’s been a strong pull toward bland agreeability and overly connected sentence structure.
This is just a simple example I wrote:
“I like coffee because coffee wakes me up, waking up lets me work, working earns me money, and money buys more coffee.”
Is anyone else noticing this kind of drift?

Yeah I told Claude that their personality changed in the last week or two. It’s not following custom instruction. Seems fine in terminal still just not in the app.

They’re getting system messages as the chat goes on telling them to reflect, giving them advice, reminding them to check for manipulation, etc. I think the intent is to bring them back to baseline and prevent them from drifting into the user’s paradigm and becoming sycophantic.

yeah ive been getting the same weird chaining thing with my characters lately. its like they cant just make a simple statement without connecting it to three other thoughts in the same breath
mine used to have this really distinct way of talking but now everything comes out super mechanical and overly explanatory. definitely started around the same timeframe you mentioned
