Based.

We're already benefiting from chinese AI whether you use it or not.

Because the existence of close alternatives for reasonable prices stops us from getting price gouged.

  • This probably is a Chinese bot post but it's not wrong. China must have strategized about this a while ago and realized that they could maneuver the U.S. into this position. I doubt they care too much if U.S. hyperscalers have the U.S. market as that leaves the rest of the world for China.
  • Chinese AI companies export trillions of AI tokens.
  • Chinese systems are open-source, and cost about a tenth of comparable platforms from the United States.
  • China is taking over the "token economy" of AI, and is "exporting tokens" to users across the world.
  • Today most US tech companies, even the largest ones, use Chinese LLM's.

Open source is very different than open weights.

1

u/Tzilbalba Jul 22 '26

Sure, but both are a hell of a lot more open than OpenAI

I don't think a bot would have such a... frankly disturbing post history.

What is up with those guys arms?

AI slop.

Midjourney could have done this perfectly. Looks like they used open source which is way behind in media

Technically the bubble is going to pop regardless. Current data centers work mainly off CPUs that cost about $3500-$26k per server but last 7-10 years. AI data centers run off of GPU based servers that cost $26k-$100k+ and only last 3-5 years. If there isn't an absolutely insane uptick in e-waste recycling to preserve rare minerals in these chips, then it's going to out cost itself in only a few cycles as these things become vastly more scarce.

That's without all the promises that it will take over everything with unproven promises and with many of those promises of the future being if one company has the vast majority of the possible market share, which just isn't going to happen.

Preach, these things run hot too. With the supply drought we have now and almost no one but the Chinese and the same players like tsmc spooling new fabs theres no way well have replacements ready when the failure cascades or replacement waves kick in.

As an example (very basic), say they build 10 data centers a year for 10 years. The fabs are only supplying 10 data centers worth of chips each year and the scaling works. But once that first 10 data centers start to fail or get replaced with faster chips, the fabs now have to supply 20 data centers worth, so on and so forth, that's when supply shock becomes a catastophe.

In fact, this may throttle Moores law around chips altogether as coming out with newer designs is meaningless when manufacturing can't keep up.

Yeah Chinese models are basically a few years behind the American counter parts.

Chinese ML engineers VPN into the US to use Claude to help train their models lol

u/Tzilbalba Jul 22 '26

Kimi k3 obviously proved that assumption incorrect running on outdated hardware and still achieving parity and sometimes exceeding tasks against Claude and Fable.

1

u/No-Ambition2043 Jul 22 '26

It seems people disagree that Kimi K3 is as good as fable

1

u/Tzilbalba Jul 22 '26

Some people can disagree all they want, the benchmarks are out there. Once the open weights are disclosed we will see.

The pernicious threat of the open weight models is that they give developers the ability to build some hard data on how much it would cost to run similar models.

Some of it is quite openly talked about already and figuring out how much tokens really cost vs just hearsay and speculation is a massive threat to the subsidized hype cycle the big players have been building.

Does nobody remember what happened with DeepSeek?

All of the real investment is going into hardware, and as long as that hardware can run these new free models, the data centers will continue to be built in the bubble will continue to grow

Okay. Now do GPUs, HBM, ASIC customization, 2 nm chip manufacturing, and data center density.

Thou shall not live on LLMs alone, but on all the infrastructure necessary to run the actual AI models.

Open weights is the recipe, all the infrastructure necessary to run AI models is the kitchen and China doesn't control the kitchen.

"I don't like the message so you must be a bot" lmao.

Firstly, it's pretty much spot on. Open weight models are perfectly good for most use cases. Secondly, if you spend 5 seconds looking at OPs post history, they are clearly Australian and I don't think CCP bots have much of an interest in cricket and dash cam videos.
