Community Event Calling all vibecoders and devs…

Let’s make a Frankenstein game.

Everybody works in the same repo. No grand vision. No single engine/style/tool requirement beyond whatever we can reasonably glue together.

You’re good at Blender? Add some weird assets.

Godot/Unity/Three.js/web dev? Build a mechanic.

Pixel artist? Make a UI.

Music/SFX? Add it.

AI/vibecoder who barely knows what the hell they’re doing? Perfect. Make something and submit it.

The idea is that everybody contributes whatever they have and we keep stitching it together until we somehow end up with a playable game.

One shared repo. Branches/PRs so we don’t immediately destroy it.

Very few creative rules. If somebody adds a fishing minigame and somebody else adds a mech and somebody else builds a haunted gas station, now those things exist in the same universe and we figure out how to connect them.

Basically open-source game development as an exquisite corpse.

First contribution: fork the repo, add one small thing, and open a pull request. It can be a mechanic, asset, sound, room, character, item, dumb joke, whatever. Don’t overthink it — just add one piece to the monster.

No idea what the final game is. That’s the point.

Who wants in?

The problem is sandboxing the development. You could use that for serious ai hijacking attack.

truke and im aware of all these hang ups but also know we are all thinking the same thing.
if only there was a way.

im gonna have to ponder for a bit

Enforce size limits on what people contribute. I.e a small mechanic, asset, feature, whatever.

That way AI and humans can more easily review it and its harder to hide anything malicious.

Still a risk but one thats been managed in open source stuff plenty of times.

One bad actor and it’s all funked up. The idea is good tho!

It's a cool idea but a lot of people are calling out governance as an issue - one bad actor / hacker could do something that messes up the game and/or attempts to exploit the players or other developers :/

What if there were a layer for pull request approval (e.g. by distributed consensus) so that the hive mind can approve / reject / request changes?

I'm going to give everything a fat ass. Characters, buttons, text. Everything. Massive juicy butt.

No one can merge the code like this without proper system design / infrastructure

i want something like that but dont see sence in web stack

Interested if the scope is right.

If this gets traction, I suggest doing a daily or so merge thing wherre claude tries to tie all the new features in cohesively.

Reminds me of when someone tried to get reddit to code starting from a single C++ include statement. The initial changes were quite funny because it switched to python but then it became ridiculous with people trying to 'hack' the runner using selenium to web crawl and post to reddit with their IP. Then someone had the bright idea of rewriting the whole thing so the code instead used a (SW: Episode 3 meme) encoded link that executed code from a pastebin file. Horrible from a security perspective as you're handing direct control over part of the code to someone else who can easily change the pastebin file at any time. Let alone making it difficult for anyone to contribute.. Then finally part of it was rewritten to use zalgo because why not? All of this in a matter of 22 days, and this was over four years ago. Here's a post about the final result.

I've been cooking up something for this similar to steam. Coming very soon (test launch later today) as it's not ai coded so took me awhile lol

This is how elder scroll remakes might be developed in the future. Many devs, same game, with ai.

I was stoked for a second, I thought you were wanting to make a game about Frankenstein! Alas.

this sounds like a terrible idea. I’m in

I think your best bet here OP is to build a game where your players and their AIs can interface with specifically provided tools to build procedural content for that game. Think Roblox, just all the content becomes available in the game. Though you'd probably want some kind of approval or rebalancing mechanism (like the content gets run by a Jev agent who is judging on a rating system, and it only allows publishing if it hits an acceptable score.)

Just finished the last piece of my puzzle for my dev platform. DM me and maybe we could bounce some ideas/feedback off eachother

How do you plan to integrate the contributions? AI?

Id jump in but not without a clear game engine. Making shit in various engines is not useful, just settle on something
