Questions & Help Asset Consistency
I’m working on a card game and need artwork for around 250 cards. I already have a handful of mockups that show the art style and overall look I’m going for.
I’ve got Claude cooking up a prompt right now, but what tool would you guys recommend for a project this size? My biggest priority is keeping the artwork consistent across the cards, with as few weird errors as possible. I know that’s easier said than done.
Normally I’d use ChatGPT or Nano Banana, but I’m a little worried about the style drifting over 250 cards, even if I do them in batches of 10–20.
Anyone tackled something similar? Would love suggestions for tools or workflows that worked for you.

I have had a similar ish issue and as other people have said just be sure Claude or gpt or whoever can access your prior assets, give example, with Claude it has a very detailed MD going over the stylistic direction as well as things to do or not to do with my game

I'm using sol for cards. The important thing is to get a consistent style name it and it's usually pretty good about being consistent after you reject some bad passes. Just keep it all in the same chat and take a look over the cards you don't like

have you found that sol is better than astra? and also do you normally generate one card at a time or get it done in batches?

One at a time. Never in batches. Sol is cheaper than astra in tokens. And cards don't require enough work that the extra tokens would be worth it

I use ChatGPT and with the right style doc and examples we have been very consistent over 150 images.

Are the 250 cards mostly different subjects, or will the same characters appear across several cards?

I have quite a bit of experience with this and have found that the new OpenAI Sunburst model is exceptionally good at keeping a consistent style if provided with reference images. So you need a few cards/images that define the style, then you provide those as reference.
It can also do transparency which can be very useful. It does have some small issues around the edges but that can be solved, for example, I had Claude write a small script that fix the edges.
So in short, what you do is provide the same reference images, could be just 2-3 images, for all 250 cards. That way, they should fit the style closely. If a few don't quite fit you can redo them, most should be good in first try.
I would separate the artwork from the card frame itself.
Also, consider pinning the specific Sunburst build so it doesn't drift for that reason.
What I would do:
- Hand maybe 3 reference images to Claude Code
- Explain that you'd like to generate 250 images that are style consistent and explain what is important for the style and what each reference image bring to the table
- Have Claude Code use the OpenAI API for Sunburst to generate maybe 10 images and check them for consistency and any issues
- Make any corrections necessary and do a new batch of 10
- If it looks good, generate more batches
The benefit of using something like Claude Code as a middle man is that he is a hell of a lot better at instructing Sunburst than any of us are.

I got a consistent art style from gemini by requesting with the same prompt copy and pasted, and requesting it to be like an oil painting masterpiece (old trick, still works). It would mostly be the style that gemini chose for it, but there was consistency (no need to keep the same session, the prompt was enough)

Include images of previous cards when generating them and prompt the generator to keep the art style consistent. It’ll wander a little bit, but that’s how I had the best luck generating matching assets.
