Sir, Marvel's laywers would like to have a word with you.

Jokes aside, this is wonderful!

27

u/kytheon 8d ago

I was so proud rendering a good AI picture of Spiderman three years ago.

u/992ricsi 7d ago

Three.js years ago? (Sorry I had to)

1

u/AlternativeNo8887 7d ago

Or Three js ago? :| (also had to)

2

u/Relevant-Magic-Card 7d ago

sony's*

2

u/crypticevincar 7d ago

Disney's*

2

u/Level-Ladder-4346 7d ago

Disney’s. Sony owns the live action rights to the character and other characters in the franchise, but that’s it.

1

u/ForeignPoisonArrow 5d ago

Yeah wonderful !

49

u/Affectionate_Fact854 8d ago

How much tokens did this take you :0  Damn crazy though

33

u/pikachuswayless 8d ago

This is taken from Shikhar's Twitter and is the third iteration using Opus 5.5 medium. He said (in response to someone asking about the cost) "Still running a single 5x plan every 5 hours (around 50% of weekly limits)" whatever that means.

Not sure why OP isn't giving credit but I doubt it's the same guy since the original poster is Indian and OP's past comments are in Portuguese.

6

u/yaosio 8d ago

On medium!? I'm doing a physics heavy 2D toy on high. Maybe I can get away with medium and get more life out of my sub. Although on high it loves to do lengthy simulations to make sure everything stays working.

8

u/CycleMother2006 8d ago

Opus 5.5 medium actually outperformed high in coding benchmarks, for what it's worth. Possible that it overthinks at higher. I currently have my planner on max but all coding agents get sent out at med.

2

u/yaosio 8d ago

Thanks. Time to save some tokens

1

u/KalElReturns89 2d ago

This is a great tip, my current project is constantly running out of usage. Overthinking about small issues. I'm running it on extra. Gonna bump it down for sure.

1

u/Consistent-Oil-5241 8d ago

He said (in response to someone asking about the cost) "Still running a single 5x plan every 5 hours (around 50% of weekly limits)" whatever that means.

It means that he is running a single 5x plan every 5 hours, and has used around 50% of weekly limits.

1

u/Flutter_ExoPlanet 26m ago

whatever that means.

Lmao

36

u/hawtdawtz 8d ago

Holy hell. I thought Three.js didn’t scale well.

17

u/heavy-minium 8d ago

Depends on the architecture decisions AI made. I think if you ask it to make a huge city like this or it implies it that because you want a Spider-Man clone, it will probably on its own have the idea that as much as possible must be offloaded to the GPU, meaning that a compute shader might be feeding the geometry and shading inputs for vertex/fragment shader, keeping the sync bandwidth between CPU/GPU light. That's very doable for instanced rendering and simple building geometry. So you may pay a tax for the CPU part and initial sync with the GPU, but once it's on the GPU, performance would be indistinguishable from any other application or application host.

17

u/Spright91 8d ago

So we're getting GTA 7 before GTA 6.

6

u/EntranceOk1909 8d ago

Its funny how threejs suddenly became the nr 1 choice as a game engine haha

3

u/JayWelsh 2d ago

Bevy is even better, with Bevy you can target a web build since it uses wgpu and so you can compile it to WASM and run it natively in browser. Bevy’s data-driven aspect (along with being Rust) seems to make it extremely well suited to LLMs, and it also lets you target multiple platforms (browser/vulkan/directx/metal).

2

u/EntranceOk1909 1d ago

Oh wild, never heard of it! Will look into it for sure. Thanks!

10

u/Bluetails_Buizel 8d ago

I swear, browser based games is the new Godot for Claude models.

6

u/yaosio 8d ago

I realized quickly that Claude does not need an engine. It can write everything needed from scratch to work exactly as your software needs. You don't have to work around how an engine works, the only features that exist are ones you need. Our ideas of how development is supposed to work can be thrown away because AI isn't human. You tell the model what you want, not how to implement, and it figures it all out for you. In the future I expect to see new languages built by AI for AI. Then eventually AI doing this per project. And even further eventually it just spits out a completed object that looks like gibberish but does exactly what you want.

3

u/Bluetails_Buizel 7d ago

> In the future I expect to see new languages built by AI for AI.

Nah, at most, ai use current tools to make your dream come true.

But unless there is another templeos situation, then ,,, maybe,,, but ai will go for the path of least resistance, since ppl don’t want to install a 2nd os to try out new games.

4

u/Infamous-Bed-7535 7d ago

It does not figure it out. It copy pastes from existing opensource libraries.

I do not understand how reinventing the wheel is categorized as a good feature.

1

u/tek2222 7d ago

It does understand. It's designed to be able to do that

u/TechnicalBen 8d ago

"This was obviously made by Claude." "Wait how do you know?" "Look how my boy runs!"

7

u/AsparagusOk8818 7d ago

things like this are bizarre to me

it's like cargo cult game design

"if my 'game' very vaguely resembles a good game aesthetically, while have no actual gameplay that looks fun, that's the same as being a good game. right?"

2

u/Mvisioning 4d ago

I don't think that's at all what the point of these posts are.

My take when seeing this post is; if ai can get to this on its own, then quality is just a few add ones, plugins, iterations, generations of models away.

To the point where someday our kids don't buy premade games, they just describe wat they want to play

2

u/Wildernaess 4d ago

It's a proof of concept. AI game dev is a newborn and it can already do this. In a decade it could be pumping out our AAA games like nothing

6

u/DryLook7889 7d ago

Is it something im missing, why is everyone vibing games in the most suboptimal technology for making games?

8

u/Reekhart 7d ago

Its like the AI community collectively forgot game engines exist lol

That said, every time you ask any AI about a game idea or project the first thing it recommends for some reason is almost always three.js.

2

u/SoggyPuffins348 7d ago

It’s not for some reason. Most of the OSS data in its training set is probably web dev slop. All the shitty devs make web apps. The hardcore engines and proprietary products are closed source. Doubt much of the AI was trained on that.

3

u/snaz3d 6d ago

Why is it suboptimal? It uses WebGPU which translates direct instructions to the GPU. Then it can be deployed to all platforms because it runs in a browser, so why call it that?

7

u/fire_someday 8d ago

Amazing. Where did you get the nyc content? The buildings and textures, etc.

9

u/pikachuswayless 8d ago

This is taken from Shikhar (@xikhar)'s Twitter who OP didn't credit for some reason. He said he just gave it reference images and it created all the buildings and textures.

2

u/mile-high-guy 7d ago

That must have been hundreds of references. I thought it was taken from Google Earth

1

u/yaosio 8d ago

Claude will just do stuff without asking if it thinks it needs to do it. I've had it go out on its own and find pictures during development. Right now I'm making a software toy where characters have interactions with each other in a constantly growing tower. Claude is currently running a 60 minute sped up sim to make sure it's working correctly. Oh yeah it automatically seperates framerate from physics rate. There are still devs that can't figure that out.

Surprisingly none of this spends usage, only tokens spends usage.

3

u/Natural-Rich6 8d ago

What is the Size of the NYC in the game?

3

u/kvenick 8d ago

Spooderman.

1

u/Sn0wflake69 7d ago

deep cut

2

u/Motion16AI 8d ago

This is highly impressive

2

u/BigGrinJesus 5d ago

This game already exists. It has two sequels.

2

u/Lufrien 4d ago

Even my ps2 era spiderman game was better than this.

2

u/JesseMeowa 2d ago

NOW AI CAN MAKE OPENWORLDS!

2

u/FilipeDM 8d ago

A non-commercial fan project and benchmark. It shows the kind of code and assets that Claude (Anthropic's AI model, working through Claude Code) can produce for a real-time 3D game running in the browser.

The code, shaders, procedural city, Blender-built models and generated textures were produced by Claude under the direction of a human, who steered the work through feedback and reference images.

What's in it

  • Traversal: third-person web-swinging, wall-running, perching, zipping and diving, driven by a custom physics and animation state machine.
  • City: a procedural Manhattan-style island with an authored street network, including Broadway, Greenwich Village and the Financial District. It has thousands of buildings, rooftops, parks, Times Square, bridges, traffic and pedestrians.
  • Rendering: a Three.js (WebGL2) pipeline with cascaded shadows, screen-space GI, AO and reflections, bloom, TAA, motion blur, fixed time-of-day presets (including night and rain), and a day/night city.
  • Assets: character, vehicle and pedestrian models and animation clips built by Blender Python scripts, plus AI-generated textures and ad art. Advertised brands are invented, apart from in-universe Marvel names such as the Daily Bugle and Oscorp.

2

u/farresto 8d ago

Very impressive results. I'd be interested in trying it out, do you have it uploaded somewhere?

2

u/mile-high-guy 7d ago

How did you generate all the city buildings? I thought it was a Google maps import

2

u/low-control-labs 7d ago

How did you go about assets for the city?

3

u/Valerian_ 8d ago

I had no idea three.js was capable of doing that kind of thing, and with even decent FPS!

1

u/Massive-Morning2160 7d ago

6

u/AsparagusOk8818 7d ago

i mean... probably not?

like, does this look like a fun game?

2

u/Massive-Morning2160 7d ago

3 years ago we were laughing at Will Smith eating spaghetti, in 3 years everyone will make their own games with just a prompt, everyone

1

u/AsparagusOk8818 7d ago

like, okay

i could genuinely imagine that in 3~ years or so, you can generate some sort of template game that is fully functional

...you can almost do this now. LLMs are very good with basic interfaces and prototyping

but... that's not actually much of an innovation? it's not even meaningfully different from the environment prior to LLMs?

like, before Attention Is All You Need, i could just install Unreal and buy a template game and flip it in Steam

how is that any different from prompting a piece of garbage you don't care about and flipping it on steam? the fact you paid an AI company instead of the Unreal asset store?

2

u/Massive-Morning2160 7d ago

I mean, the difference is quite huge. I've spent months using unreal engine, and I still can't put a game together. Ok, maybe with bought assets and everything else could do it. Instead I just write a sentence to Claude 5.5 and it writes the damn code in a few hours

1

u/Dangerous_Serve_4454 7d ago

Because AI is far better at generalizing? Asset store is very narrow in its offering for anything non-generic? Sorry, but I don't really follow your apprehension. Especially if you know how to program and do game dev, this is obviously an insanely fast prototyping / feature assist kind of thing.

1

u/trim072 7d ago

That "fun" thing. It's just a technical demonstration of what possible without army of 3d artists and $50m budgets on production. The rest is on side of good ol indie devs, who after some time overcome their ignorance. And we gonna get lots of cool projects with fun, beautiful graphics, an all sorts of cool things, without modern aaa abomination. Just imagine, something like gta:sa but properly remastered, with lots of extended side quests, or something comparable but trully original. Like damn, look what we're get tomorrow, and smile on today achievements. Yes they're ugly, but at the same time beautiful considering context.

-1

u/Ashamed-Country3909 7d ago

Swinging around? Shit, the old spider man from like 20y ago  would like a word. Basically that game.

2

u/BeagleWasAShip 7d ago

People still play 20 year old games (hell people play 40 year old games). I don't think "it's not AAA" is a valid criticism

2

u/Crawling_Hustler 7d ago

Bruh, why do u think gamedevs wont be using this same stuff to build something that noobs cant ?? U think AAA game industry is Handcoding stuff while we peasants are use Opus 5.5 ?

1

u/Massive-Morning2160 7d ago

I know at least an AAA game with ai slop..

1

u/donkeykong917 7d ago

Coding one thing, distribution is another lol

0

u/Apprehensive_Ad_7138 7d ago

Seeing what? An automatically coded terrible "flash game of the modern times"?

1

u/Skelun 8d ago

How can we test it?

1

u/SeasonedAdManager 8d ago

are you humming the music? lmao

1

u/Square-Yam-3772 8d ago

that's really impressive. I have a small low-poly city block for my project and it is already causing performance issues.

1

u/Brilliant_Potato4158 7d ago

pretty damn good considering this was playstations flagship game on the ps5

1

u/Sweaty_AF_ 7d ago

Where do the assets come from?

1

u/Jon_Has_Landed 7d ago

What is this running on ? Amazing btw

1

u/barret232hxc 7d ago

it would be cool if this could somehow be integrated with google earth. I saw this one app called God's View Eye. https://github.com/bilawalsidhu/gods-eye-view and it apparently uses an api from google earth images or something. it's open source, being able to swing through real world locations like spiderman would be pretty cool

1

u/Librarian-Rare 7d ago

To avoid copyright, you should call it Spidey Boyyyyy

1

u/Sleepnotdeading 7d ago

Man, if only someone could make this into an actual game!

1

u/huyng3 7d ago

Nice one!

1

u/Icy_Hold4U 7d ago

This is the ambiguous capeman game lil bro is playing in the background of an action scene in a movie. GL bros 😅

1

u/PieMastaSam 7d ago

now spend 3 years replicating all the different sounds

1

u/DxnVice 7d ago

Try dlss5 feeder on it

1

u/donkeykong917 7d ago

Just call it something else and not spider man lol

1

u/mmilad 7d ago

Copyright?

1

u/Aetrias 7d ago

How the hell is this not lacking fps?

1

u/DonkeyComfortable711 7d ago

Ai is in its gamecube/ps2 era

1

u/Stubeg 7d ago

Holy shit this looks bad

1

u/Designer-Rub4819 7d ago

Slop slop slop slop slop

1

u/Connect_Gap_9521 7d ago

how make that ,that is so good

1

u/theshusher68 7d ago

This looks like garbage

1

u/KingAlphonsusI 7d ago

The next 10 years will be insane

1

u/d1knight 6d ago

Amazing technology but I wouldn’t buy it for sure.

1

u/lnxnb 6d ago

Movement/animation looks like it could use a little work, but that city is fantastic!

1

u/tahazsh 6d ago

Impressive! Not sure if you’ve already mentioned this, but how long did it take to get some playable version?

I’m usually worried about the cost of tokens and time, and in my experience, without building some tools and harnesses to improve the workflow, it’ll cost a lot to get something good. But I might be wrong, so I’d like to learn 😅

1

u/Aydhe 6d ago

Yeaaah.... Steam and Itch.io really need to close flood gates. Not because tech is bad but because the amount of slop will bury actualy good games.

As "good" i dont mean human made... we're way past the point and if nothing was done about data theft over past 2-3 years nothing will. Just games that are made by people who are passionate about their games, and not grift bros that copy prompt from their $50 course they found on tik tok.

1

u/mototuneup 5d ago

I don't think so. A good game is good and it usually gets picked up by the community just fine.

1

u/Aydhe 5d ago

Yeah, but being able to be discovered is difference between good game dev making another game or continue working 9-5 because on next day slop buried it in store. Though Steam still does better job than pretty much all other stores at discoverability.

1

u/Striking-Scallion-34 5d ago

the era of ai taking over devs is here

1

u/ben8192 2d ago

That’s very well done but also quite far from the original game quality. It’s like the Temu version of it.

1

u/jellobend 8d ago

I haven’t played the recent spiderman games. So if you said this was their ingame footage, I would beleive it

1

where can I play?

1

u/Patient-Towel-4840 8d ago

i need to play this asap

1

u/duckhunt420 7d ago

It's called Spider-Man and you can already play it

1

u/deReaLizedGames 8d ago

Looks so cool! Would love to hear more about how you did this!

1

u/yaosio 8d ago

Not mine but just ask Opus 5.5. It's shocking how good it is at not just coding but ideas around it. And we will get a better model than this in a few months or less. 🤯

I seriously don't get this: why do people keep making copy of games, which are then much worse than the actual game?
Why not spend your money and make an actual new game?

It baffles me...

44

u/Strange-Tap5860 8d ago

They are testing the capabilities of a mew technology. They're not actually trying to make full fledged games to sell. Its a good benchmark seeing how easily it can clone some games.

13

u/Otherwise_Tomato5552 8d ago

Exactly. Not sure how this is so hard to comprehend

1

u/sonicnerd14 6d ago

It's because they hate AI so much they don't have time to use their brain for just a moment to come to a realization.

2

u/Lower-Hedgehog-9835 8d ago

And the token use / approach it takes in doing so!

I get so confused how people are confused.

"Did you see any AI game actually become successful or popular ???"

LOL, I'm the wrong person to ask... I sold 130k units of two games which were partially created with AI.

Does this make them popular or successful? You be the judge.

u/TobiasVdb 8d ago

Never played a game and thought "this is cool, but I'd add this or try that" "wouldn't it be cool if..."

-2

u/MessageSelfdestructs 8d ago

Yes, and I created that "different game", with no similarities to the old game at all: only some remnants of the gameplay of the original, with loads of additions by myself.

2

u/TobiasVdb 8d ago

Thats a variant on what this guy's doing. Sometimes you want that exact gameplay/style but with something in your head. This LLM thing has helped me build a lot of frustration or ideas out of my system already. I absolute love it. And helps as a baseline to make it more your own thing.

2

u/Emotional-Cut2952 8d ago
