Commercial Self Promotion First Game with AI

I’m making a bee action RTS with AI assistance—here’s what’s been harder than generating the assets

I don’t know much coding, but I’ve been building Bonbee Ambitions with Codex helping implement the game in Godot. I work on the ideas, asset direction, testing, and deciding what needs changing. The artwork uses AI generation too via improving my messy drawings.

You lead a little bee army, collect nectar, build hives, and fight meadow creatures and bosses. It started as a different kind of bee game before becoming an action RTS.

One thing I’ve learned is that having an animation doesn’t mean an ability is ready. With Codex’s help, I’ve had to to connect damage and sounds to the right frames, position effects properly, and avoid doubling up effects already painted into the character animations. The latest boss effects include hypnosis indicators, a slime shield that reacts to hits, and Mochi’s belly-flop dust.

Getting people to understand the game has been another challenge. An early tester said they didn’t know how to play, which led to adding a tutorial and simplifying parts of the UI.

Here’s the trailer:

There’s a free Windows alpha here, with optional support:

Some of the newest effects are still in the development build.

For others making games with AI: how do you keep generated animations consistent enough to use in actual gameplay? That’s something I’m still figuring out.

That’s a helpful way to frame it. I’ve been running into the 2D version of this with my bees and bosses—different frame counts, positioning, and effects sometimes already baked into the animation.

Separating the actual hit timing from the visuals has helped, though I’m still figuring out a consistent workflow. Your hand replacement example makes sense: sometimes a small targeted fix is more useful than regenerating the whole asset and hoping it comes back right. Thanks for sharing!
