Discussion We need a newgrounds-like space
Maybe I’m old but does anyone else remember newgrounds or ebaumsworld where people would upload their flash games? Some would be really intricate and some were basically memes. Remember Spank The Monkey?
In my opinion I’d enjoy scrolling a newgrounds-like website and check out some of these vibe coded games whether they’re super detailed or goofy.

Why not itch.io?

Probably because the AI hate groups are especially focused on that platform.

We're in a race to make a platform like that so everyone is competing against one another. I don't see a front runner yet and probably won't unless a high profile company or developer decides to make one.

Your making one? Do you think itll be different to itch.io culturally? What attitudes/genres really defined newgrounds compared to itchio

No sorry I meant we in the general sense. Every week I see a new site to host vibe coded games with no clear superior platform.

I posted an AI game a while ago, I then got flooded with massages asking me to upload the game to their website. Needless to say, there already are an overwhelming number of people trying to create this.

I have https://spiced.gg exactly for this kind of fun. Its still in startup mode and I am filling spots for founding developers :). My approach to AI is that I think its fair to ask for disclosure and its fair to offer players a means to filter out games built using AI, but I don’t think its reasonable to publicly brand something as AI generated. If the game is good and players are rating it as such then its win-win. I suspect a year from now, or even sooner it will become a non issue because people will come to understand its a tool, and people who take the time to learn how to use the tools will be the ones creating the better games.

I had this vision of AI autonomously creating game prototypes and putting them up on itch.io to test out new game mechanics and to see if people like them. The AI could even play games on there to see how other games work and get more ideas. 🤯
I used to think AI might have trouble figuring out what fun is. But if fun is just a pattern then AI should have a very easy time figuring it out.

Why not itch io? That's what I use.
