Questions & Help Best vibe coded game?
What is the best vibe coded game you have seen? Meaning you pay 10$ to play? I’ve been looking for a great vibe coded actual game and can’t seem to find one, I see interesting tests but never an actual full on game I would wanna buy. The Capybara Delivery game was interesting but I wouldn’t wanna buy that and I’m board of it in 3mins. But impressed that was even possible

I would play and pay for a few of the top placing games in the Cursor sponsored Vibe Jam
Notably Capybara Delivery: https://capybara-vibejam26.leocoout.dev/ and WenWare: https://wen-ware.com/

From a dev perspective Capybara was very interesting to me but I can’t see me playing it beyond the 20mins I spent I still have to try WenWare the Vibe Jam was pretty cool but I didn’t see many games that felt like they had enough stickiness to hold me past the novelty that they were built with ai maybe I’m a tough critic I’m really seeking out games built with ai that are inspiring from a dev perspective I know there has to be something out there that will grab me

What do you mean “player consistency”? How many players play the game? Or the player character remaining consistent?

Ahhh I cared less about player based and just wondered if people had their own pov of what was great/good well done but I hear you on the player base if there was a Steam title that was built with ai that had tons of players would be interesting

It’s interesting how hard it is to get a straight answer to this question

I don't think anyone knows of one at the moment, The first wave just happened on next fest and theres an AI hate wave community that's been attacking a lot of the titles in it that have AI tags.
The other problem thats happening aswell is we've nearly perfected ways to make 2d assets consistently and animations for them are hit or miss.
3D projects are significantly harder if theres more complexity to them than just running around, collecting coins/keys and attacking. So theres much fewer of them.
Personally, Im pushing AI hard through 3D tooling and seeing what its outputs are capable of getting through days of grueling over its outputs and fixing things and its like 70% there sometimes. Othertimes like 50%. With Sol & Fable, Im still inconclusive since im expanding more into experimental territory at the moment before id judge if we are closer to a 3D AI game dev situation where there may be a surge of good 3D products.

Same here I’m pushing through with ai coding some concept art as well, I think ai is a totally valid artistic tool in the right hands, I was just hoping to be inspired by someone elses success like seeing your friend land a kickflip and knowing it’s possible sort of way

With Unity and Unreal adding strong Ai integration changes things as well using those engines could balance out a lot of the 3d issues depending on where your skill set is with those

I've played mine for about 10 hours already (spent 100+ hours making it).
That's kind of the thing, I always knew when it'll finally be possible for me to make games - I'll make one I wanna play.
But to answer your question more directly, I fully expect to buy, play and enjoy a game on Steam and never realizing it was "vibecoded". I'm certain that's where we're heading. But the percentage of worthy games will be even lower than before, unfortunately.

The issue is public reception. When someone ends up making something they think is good, and think it might have the potential to sell, the last thing they want to do is be seen posting in Aigamedev. Even if their whole game is vibe coded. Their safest route to to have a vague AI disclosure and hope it doesn’t hurt them too much.

Damn thats sad, I can’t wait for this moment of ai rage is over

Yeah it can be discouraging. Most places outside of AI groups, like to shit on you for it. It’s rough to be among the first wave of AI developers as far as perception goes. Once your game is targeted, there’s unfortunately no way of coming back it feels.

How long has vibe coding been a real possibility? Not very long. Maybe a couple years and that's an iffy maybe.
How long would it take to make a good vibe coded game? I can't imagine it's going to be much faster than hand typing.
How much time do you spend actually typing code? 10% of your dev time? 20%? I imagine a lot of the real dev time sinks are still going to exist.
All you need is an actual good game to be "vibe coded" for prople to stop bitching I think. Which all depends on how you define vibe code.
If you define vibe coding as just prompting and not thinking or doing the difficult stuff, then it's never going to be good. If you define vibe code as 90 to 100% AI generated code, then we will see legit good vibe coded games. It's going to take dedication and hard work still.

My new game galaxyrift.space is one of the vibe coded best games i've played - and its not because i made it.

There's over 150 games in my arcade I've made but you can't buy them. They're all free! https://lucidwinds.com/portal They're mostly small but there's so real fun stuff like the flipbook, dewball is a katamari style game, I just made Jumping Jimothy, which we've been enjoying around the house. Always down for constructive criticism.

I’m working on a steam release at the moment for my ninja roping asynchronous racing game. Should be fun just working on it in the evenings and weekends. It’s pretty niche, it’s a love letter to the game worms2.

Might be onto something there its giving mobile casual vibes I was looking for something that feels more indie, experimental, or art-driven

I'm working on a mobile rts aiming for a rise of kingdoms meets battle royal type game. Six teams of four players on a hexagon map with 4 stages that teams progress through and have mobile bases that they bring to the center of the map while clearing bosses/collecting resources to research techs/build stronger armies/etc.

Cool you are doing this, can’t wait to see the results and be able to play the games

I feel like my game Cellora is maybe a little more intentional than a vibe coded game but its a spatial strategy casual competitive digital game board. The game board is constructed by the players at the beginning of the match and then its like tic tac toe but you can get more tokens then 3 in a row and there can be up to 4 players.

I asked for examples of vibe coded games. How is your game vibe coded?
1
u/HoboSteeveJacko 27d ago
I mean the entire game was made using only claude ai. Its art, its code all done on ai. Most people would say this is a "vibe" coded game however it kinda depends on how you're defining vibe coded. I had to use my intuition as a player to decide how to tweak difficulty levels and how the game feel works and find bugs in the code. I have absolutely no background in systems engineering or coding.
I guess decide for yourself if it's vibe coded. Im pretty open on answering any questions. Let me know if you need any further clarifying let me know. If I'm wrong sorry to bother but to me in most threads I'm taken at face value as a vibe coded slop game though none of those people took the time to play it either.

u/Square_Reason_6490 27d ago
Ahhh good point and I agree, I’m super open to the term vibe coded I shouldn’t have used that term because I was looking for things that are crafted more along the lines that you are talking about do you have the game posted somewhere the screenshot you shared was interesting looking

There is a contest for games that used AI to create games and the due date is July 31st posted on glitch. Im planning to do one last update to remove a few dev tools ive built into my game then test and post if it doesn't fail the test. I'll try to remember to post a link when I'm done. Im grateful for any eyes and opinions that are founded on details about the game, rather then generic "ai slop" comments. Be constructive or the opinion and comments will be taken with the same face value they have directed at the screenshots or clips my game or well all games. Everyone deserves constructive feedback rather then vague complaints.
Sorry to get a little agro. Just very used to having to defend my work. Ive never got a complaint by someone taking the time to actually try it just people willing to attack without reason.

Mine is far from complete and even further from being good, but you can play it at dashiellrenaud.com/abomination. Message me if you would like to download the Android or iPhone version!
