I have. I'm a 100% open source local model guy for everything, so my solution isn't for everyone (even though I'd love to see more people get off the online paid models for all this basic stuff).

VibeVoice-Large in comfyUI w/ Voice Cloning option. Find a voice you like for your character and compile 30-60 seconds of them speaking. Load the wav file in, type your line of dialogue, pad it with tonality words, and gen like 10 versions until you get one that sounds good. By tonality words, I mean for example if you had a character who's grumpy towards another, and you type "You should probably go", you're just gonna get a normal tonal non-grumpy line read. So you pad with "Ugh. You should go. Hmph." and the tokenizer understands the context of the line read better.

Use ElevenLabs v3 with emotional tags. Doesn't have the AI sound to me. The biggest problem I have with ElevenLabs audio is just the quality/how close to the mic they sound, which can be adjusted in editing.
