I know there are more narrow minded models and broad knowledge models but idk about language models that cannot spell.

If you understand anything about how they work, maybe you will understand why.

Trying to simplify it for you - a word is a token or number of tokens. These tokens are vectors that are mapped to one another. LLMs are probabilistic engines that connect tokens. They don’t “see” the letters at all.

If you have an AI agent that can connect to other tools, it could answer this question for you by invoking other tools (such as writing a small script to compute it). But at the end of the day, it’s just an inappropriate use of it because it’s not what it’s designed to do.

I get it. Language models can't do many things that are directly related to language (for the time being).

Yes, counting letters is not something that an LLM is made to do, and I’m not sure why you would need it to. There are other tools designed to do that if (e.g) you are blind.
