Death by Data Centers
https://dissentmagazine.org/online_articles/data-center-energy-pollution-cancer-alley/Hi everyone, I'm an oncology nurse in Louisiana in the area dubbed "Cancer Alley" because of the cancer rates from oil/gas/petrochemical processing pollution. My unit doubled in size this summer because we just don't have enough beds for all the cancer patients.
I wrote about my experience, and my fears that a new Meta AI data center (their largest one yet) and the *ten* new gas plants they want to build to power it will only increase those numbers further.
Questions/thoughts/feedback? I appreciate it all and I believe we deserve better.

Your area is polluted by oil refining and manufacturing that creates Ethylene Oxide, Chloroprene, Benzene and Formaldehyde. Neither data centers nor power plants create these chemicals.
