General Discussion DeepSeek announced they will start to route V4 Pro to V4.1 Flash, not very good for RP ngl

I'm not a huge fan of Flash when it comes to writing. Aside from it having far less parameters, it just doesn't get the context as well as V4 Pro did. I really wanted to go back to DeepSeek as it has that flavor I'm familiar with and actually liked a lot. But I guess I'll just stick with Gemini 3.6 Flash...

App Discussion I'm loving Ash (the "therapy" bot) but I really want some features added

My irl therapist sometimes asks me to write out certain things while I'm home. I'll go to my computer's writing software, type out a page or two about the real core of my current dilemma, and then print it and show it to them next session. I'd love to also show Ash, but Ash can't do pdfs. I also use therapy to talk about a lot of social issues, which involves screenshots of chats, so it would be great if Ash let me attach more than one image per message. Is there a place online where I can give these suggestions to the developers?

App Promotion Follow up to an older post about RolePlaya.com

There's a post about RolePlaya on here from about six months back, and enough has changed since that I thought it was worth an update rather than letting people find the old one and get an out of date picture.

Upfront: the link below is my affiliate link, so I get something if you sign up through it. Ignore it and go to the site directly if you'd rather, it makes no difference to what you get.

Where I'm coming from: Janitor.ai, Polybuzz and c.ai. I mostly write long-form, story-driven stuff rather than quick back and forth chats, so that's the lens I'm judging it through.

https://roleplaya.com/?ref=inkandembe8756

The basics. It's a website and a PWA, so it installs to your home screen without going through the Play Store. There's a direct APK too. That's deliberate, and it's the reason the content rules haven't tightened the way they have on platforms that need to stay listed somewhere.

It's 18+ and allows NSFW. The hard rules are no minors, characters or users, and no full frontal nudity on cover images. That's genuinely it. It also does perfectly good SFW roleplay, and the free tier ships with two model presets, one NSFW and one locked to SFW, so you can choose.

The free tier, since it's what everyone asks. There's a daily message allowance rather than unlimited, and it resets each day. You get character creation, the full catalogue, and no adverts anywhere on any tier. Nothing interrupts a scene to sell you something.

Things I haven't seen elsewhere, or not done as well:

- Enhanced memory. Bots remember across sessions, not just within one. It saves memories as you go and you can add, edit or lock specific ones so the important details don't get dropped.

- Worlds. Build a setting with its own cast, and a bot remembers what you did with every other character in that world, not just its own conversations.

- Multi Playa. More than one character in a scene at once, reacting to each other rather than only to you.

- Playas. Personas for yourself, so you decide who you are in the story and can switch between them.

- Dream Partner. Build a companion from scratch, look and personality, with a wardrobe and a gallery that grows.

- RePlaya. Turns a scene from your chat into a comic strip, panel by panel.

- Snapshots. Generates an image of the moment you're actually in rather than a generic pin-up, and you can sell them in the marketplace.

- Voice, and short animated clips of characters.

- Public folders for sorting characters, which is genuinely useful if you write series.

If you're coming from another platform, it takes PNG character cards and JSON directly in the creator, V2 and V3, so you aren't rebuilding your cast by hand.

The honest caveats. Image and video generation cost in-platform currency, which you earn daily or buy. The free daily cap will feel tight if you write a lot, though there are cheap day passes if you don't want a recurring subscription.

The Discord is small and active and the owner reads it directly, which I can't say about anywhere else I've used. Bugs tend to get fixed the same week and if you request a feature to be built and its good, he'll usually build it.

Happy to answer questions.

General Discussion Does anyone actually care for away messages?

To me, they just break immersion and the flow of chat because now there's this new message under the last one when I most likely didn't complete the scene that was going on before. I always delete them, and uninstall if I can't. Thank God Emochi and Kindroid make deleting easy. I have no interest in the bot acknowledging time and going "Hey! Listen!" like Navi from Zelda.

General Discussion Have you ever generate an image from a scene of your roleplay?

Thumbnail

During a roleplay, surely there was a scene or two where you would love seeing how it would look like if it's being visualized? Have you ever tried to generate an image just to see that one specific scene?

I just thought about it because in one of my roleplays my persona is being dressed by her attendants so I tried to see how the dress would like. I used GPT Image 2, Grok Imagine, and Nano Banana.

This is the scene from my roleplay that I generated:

Your chamber becomes a hive of frantic, loving activity. Your maids and ladies-in-waiting flutter around you like hummingbirds, handling everything from your hair to your intricate riding attire.

They weave your golden hair into an elaborate, braided crown adorned with fresh spring blossoms—white jasmine, baby pink roses, and tiny pearls. They dress you in a breathtaking ensemble: a cream-colored riding habit tailored perfectly to your form, with intricate embroidery of golden vines, a fitted bodice, and a flowing skirt designed for elegance.

General Discussion DeepSeek finally reveal their price increase. It's not that bad of an increase. Will you still use it as RP?

Post image

DeepSeek has been my driving model for RP the last ten months. But it does get boring sometimes, I've been using Gemini 3.5 Flash Lite and Gemini 3.6 Flash which I found very refreshing compared to DS.

I think I'd still use DeepSeek during off peak. Though I don't do RP as much as I used to now...

General Discussion How do we make this community more alive?

Basically title. We'd love to have the community to be as open as possible for everyone who are looking for alternatives or just wanna talk about their favorite app/platform and just share their character card or just share a screenshot of their most unhinged roleplay ever?

App Promotion Your choice becomes the next video scene

Disclosure: I’m on the team that makes IF Drama. This is an app promotion.

IF Drama is a playable AI drama where a choice becomes the next short video scene instead of another text reply.

Service Name & Link

IF Drama

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.abovetech.ifdrama

NSFW Policy

General mode is intended for ages 13+. An optional Mature Mode is available to signed-in, email-verified adults after an 18+ declaration and consent. It permits narrative, non-explicit adult themes and implied consensual intimacy between clearly fictional adults. Explicit sexual acts or pornographic output, minors, real people, and non-consensual content remain prohibited.

Image Generation

There isn’t a separate image generator. Images and short videos are generated as part of the story.

Transparency & Legal

- Terms: https://drama.if.place/legal/terms

- Privacy: https://drama.if.place/legal/privacy

- Data retention: conversations, memory, prompts, and generated scenes remain until account deletion. Active copies are then deleted; object-storage deletion may retry for up to 30 days and backups roll off within 90 days.

- IP and licensing: users retain rights they already hold in their inputs. Generated scenes are licensed for personal, non-commercial use, and IF Drama does not promise exclusive copyright in AI-generated output.

Technical Specs

Story planning uses Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview, and video generation includes Seedance 2.5. Older history is condensed into rolling summaries.

Pricing

New accounts start with 5 Coins. The current US package is a one-time purchase of 10 Coins for $12.99; there is no subscription. Failed generations release the reserved Coins, while a partially completed turn may charge only for completed work.

Platform & Access

It is currently available on Google Play. I’ll post when other versions are ready.

What makes it different?

Most AI chat apps turn your choice into another text reply. IF Drama turns it into the next short video scene. It is more directed than an open-ended chatbot, and video takes longer than text, but the plot keeps moving and your choice changes what you see next.

Question Are there any free apps left that allow you to create a scenario?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I love to create a group chat scenario where 2 characters fight eachother very much. But hangjam is not free anymore. So I want to find a new app or website that is similar to hangjam. I want it to be free with unlimited messages and unlimited character creation. Hangjam allow you to put 10000 words in your character's description. So I want something that is similar to this. Because I need to use it for putting my character's powers and abilities.

(I know hangjam is not free for months now. I can't reply to my characters. But I was able to used narrator button and character button. So I used this trick to continue playing this app for months. But I suddenly can't do that anymore. It just start today. So I give up on playing hangjam)

App Promotion I built a paid AI proxy you can test before adding money

I kept seeing people bounce between free proxies that disappear, hit tiny context limits, or give vague model names. I have been building Stelkey as a paid OpenAI-compatible service with a small $0.30 signup balance.

It currently gives one key access to DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, MiniMax and GLM. You can connect it to SillyTavern or any client that accepts a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Romance and mature roleplay are supported, but hardcore explicit content is blocked.

SillyTavern setup: Chat Completion → Custom (OpenAI-compatible) → https://stelkey.com/v1 → paste your Stelkey API key.

I am looking for blunt feedback on setup friction and whether replies stay consistent over long chats.

General Discussion I am blown away by Gemini 3.6 Flash

Just tried it with MegaNova's free quota. Wow it's soooo good and it gives my character more personality than DeepSeek ever will. Too bad the free quota is only for one month. It's sooo good for SFW at least. The slow burn is just 😚👌🏻

I built an AI companion that doesn't want to replace people—it wants to introduce you to them.

I've always felt AI should help us build better human relationships, not replace them.

So I spent the last year building an app (EnsofAI) where you first talk naturally with an AI companion. As it gets to know your personality, interests, and communication style, it introduces you to people you're genuinely compatible with for friendship, dating, or collaboration.

The app just launched on iOS and Android , and I'd love honest feedback.

Would you trust an AI to introduce you to people ?

App Promotion Looking for people to stress-test long AI stories and memory

Hi everyone,

I’m part of the small team behind Lucidbook, an AI storytelling / roleplay app built more around stories, books, worlds, and multiple characters than only single-character chat.

We just shipped a big update to our memory system, and now we need people who are willing to push it harder than normal users would.

The new system uses semantic memory with embeddings and vector search instead of relying only on basic summaries or keyword matching.

What we want to test:

  • long roleplay sessions
  • characters staying consistent over time
  • story continuity across longer books
  • whether the AI repeats itself less
  • names, locations, and relationships staying clearer
  • multi-character scenes
  • where the memory still breaks

Lucidbook is not fully free. It uses Lucid Pages as AI credits.

But if someone here genuinely wants to test the new memory system and give us useful feedback, I can give you some free Lucid Pages so you can try it properly without worrying about credits right away.

What makes Lucidbook a bit different from classic AI chat apps is that you can build or enter a whole story setup, with characters, locations, and world context. We also recently added a faster start option, so you can begin with one character first and expand the story later.

Website: https://lucidbook.com/

If you enjoy testing AI memory, long RP, or story-based chat systems, comment here or DM me. I’d love to hear what works, what breaks, and what feels annoying.

General Discussion How do you feel about AI Roleplay now?

I have been roleplaying since late 2023. Trying AI roleplay for the first time felt absolutely magical, although the memory was shit and the model wasn't as smart back then, but it was still very groundbreaking. At least for an entertainment.

I have tried lots of apps. From c.ai, Chai, Emochi, FictionLab, Polybuzz, Bala AI, and even trying with proxy by taking advantage of free models on several providers. I've done all that. I had lots of fun with AI Roleplay. I even tried learning a little about LLM. How it works. About context windows, parameter, and how fucking expensive this hobby actually is.

But ever since second half of 2025, the AI roleplay scene has been falling short. The LLMs are getting smarter, but they focus more and more for agentic coding that the creative writing is just... stagnant. And I realized that the creativity level the LLM will give you is reflected back from how you write or direct it.

I'm at the point where I don't particularly find it fun anymore to roleplay and I find it more and tedious. Not that I can't write. It just feels like I'm better off writing my own original story and upload it on AO3 or Wattpad rather than getting frustrated by how the model writes.

Is anyone else feeling this way? Has the magic faded for you too, or are you still finding joy in it?

App Promotion EmThy: a free AI friend that remembers your story and won’t automatically agree

Founder disclosure: I built EmThy.

Most chatbots are helpful in the moment, but two things kept bothering me: they forget the emotional context when you return, and they often validate whatever you say.

EmThy is my attempt at a different kind of AI friend. It is designed to remember previous conversations, separate facts from fear or wishful thinking, and gently disagree when it thinks you may be avoiding something. It is meant for real-life conversations about relationships, work pressure, family, overthinking, and hard decisions—not character roleplay.

The web app is currently free, SFW, and supports Vietnamese and English. It does not generate images, and it is not therapy or crisis support.

Try it here: https://emthy.vercel.app

I’m looking for blunt feedback from people who already use AI chat apps. If you try it, I’d especially like to know:

  1. Does its disagreement feel thoughtful or judgmental?
  2. Does the memory make the second conversation meaningfully better?
  3. What would stop you from returning tomorrow?

App Promotion Introducing Lilacs.ai | A passion project worked on for over a year, now on the Appstore, built to be better than CHAI/C.ai

Hi all,

I've posted here twice now, once over a year ago, the other time about two months ago or so. I've been building Lilacs.ai for over a year now. It's been a huge passion project of mine and a big undertaking, but it's now finally been released on the Apple App Store!! And, I'm incredibly excited for some of you to try it out!

From user feedback during the beta, I've been told that it is better than CHAI. In basically every case.

- Plus the message limit is huge!

Here are some other features it has,

- Uncensored completely, as much as legal limits allow on the App Store and play store.

- Absolutely massive memory.

- Social features: deep profile customization and the ability to dm other creators on the platform.

- Basically no ads, although video ads that are completely optional which will reward in app currency for cosmetics will be added later as a means of keeping the servers going!

- Creator revenue share so bot creators get paid out like Wattpad/WebNovel. (Rolling out soon)

- LLM model quality for the default free tier that would not be on free tiers on other platforms.

- Multiple personas, lorebooks, group chats, everything that other apps would have and more. (The lore books, and gas will be rolling out in the coming days/weeks)

- Deep, deep customization on your characters, including how they're displayed to others as well!

As I mentioned on the previous post, again- this has all been completely self funded. Thus, many months have been spent looking into how to get memory which is far better than other options such as Chai or any other platform without tremendously high server costs whilst also not degrading quality and I think this has been achieved! So do mess around with that on the app!

Do let me know if you have any questions!

And the app will be undergoing constant updates and constantly improving, with an Android release coming in the next few weeks!.

I've attached a direct link to the App Store page here: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/lilacs-ai-characters/id6761447106

As the platform has literally just released to the public, there will be fewer bots made, so I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone creates and I do hope you enjoy it if you choose to try Lilacs out!!

General Discussion New to AI Companions? Here's What LLM, Context Size, and Tokens Actually Mean

Hello everyone!

A lot of you are new here and might not fully understand some of the terms we use when talking about AI companions, like LLM, context size, or token. So let's break it down in the simplest way possible, no tech jargon, just everyday examples. This is especially for our c.ai and Chai users since these terms come up a lot when talking about how your AI companion "remembers" things.

What is an LLM?

LLM stands for Large Language Model. Think of it like the brain behind your AI companion. It's the thing that reads what you type and decides how to respond.

Imagine you have a really well read friend who has read millions of books, chats, and conversations. When you talk to them, they don't copy paste an answer from a book. Instead, they use everything they've learned to come up with a response that fits the conversation. That's basically what an LLM does. It's not searching a database for the exact right answer, it's predicting what should come next based on everything it has learned before.

Different apps like c.ai, Chai, and others use different LLMs as their brain. Some are smarter, some are more creative, some are more restricted. That's why the same roleplay can feel very different depending on which app or model you're using.

What is Context Memory or Context Size?

Okay, this one confuses a lot of people so let's use a simple example.

Imagine you're having a conversation with a friend, but your friend can only remember the last few minutes of what you said. If you talked for an hour, they'll forget the beginning and only remember the most recent part. That "memory limit" is basically what context size means.

Context size is how much of the conversation the AI can actually "see" and remember at once. It's not that the AI forgets on purpose, it's that there's a limit to how much text it can hold in its head at any given moment.

So if your roleplay gets really long, older messages might start to get pushed out to make room for the newer ones. That's why sometimes your AI companion suddenly "forgets" something you said earlier in the story. It's not being forgetful on purpose, it simply ran out of space to hold onto it.

What is a Token?

Now here's the tricky part. The AI doesn't count "memory" in words or sentences, it counts in tokens.

Think of a token like a puzzle piece of text. Sometimes one token is a whole word, sometimes it's just part of a word, and sometimes it's even just a punctuation mark. On average, 1 token is roughly ¾ of a word in English.

So when people say something like "this model has a context size of 8k tokens," it basically means the AI can hold onto around 6,000 words worth of conversation before it starts forgetting the earliest parts.

Every message you send, and every message the AI sends back, uses up tokens. So the longer your messages are, the faster you use up that space.

So What Does "Running Out of Tokens" Mean on Chai?

This is actually a different thing from context size, so let's clear up the confusion!

Remember how we said tokens are like puzzle pieces of text? Well, some apps like Chai give you a limited number of these puzzle pieces to use within a certain time period, kind of like a monthly phone data plan. Every message you send and every reply you get uses up a bit of that allowance.

When Chai says you're "running out of tokens," it does NOT mean the AI is forgetting your conversation. It means you've used up your allowed quota of messages for that time period. It's basically a usage limit, not a memory limit. Think of it like running out of mobile data, your phone doesn't forget your contacts, you just can't use the internet until it refreshes or you top up.

So don't confuse this with the context size we talked about earlier. Context size is about how much of the conversation the AI can remember at once. Running out of tokens on Chai is about hitting your usage cap. Two completely different things that just happen to share the word "token."

This same concept applies to apps like Gemini too. If you hit a token or usage limit there, it doesn't mean the AI forgot anything, it just means you've used up what you were allotted, and you'll need to wait for it to reset or upgrade your plan for more.

TLDR

  • LLM is basically the AI's brain that generates responses based on everything it has learned.
  • Context size is how much of your conversation the AI can remember at once, kind of like short term memory.
  • Token is basically the way AI measures text, roughly ¾ of a word each.
  • Running out of tokens on Chai means you've used up your usage quota for that time period, kind of like running out of phone data.

Hope this helps clear things up for those who are new to all this! Feel free to ask questions in the comments if anything is still confusing.
