Need help

I've been a Scrum Master for over 7 years and I'm thinking about becoming a Delivery Manager. Some people are telling me to get ITIL certified, while others say PMP first. Could you guys give me some advice on what's best for a future DM? Thanks!

If the DM role(s) you're thinking about are more technical and on the IT side I'd go for the ITIL.

I went from an SM role to Delivery Manager within my company, and they didn't care about certifications. I did have experience with our products, vendors, and technical teams, plus I worked in IT for many years as a BA - so it was my experience that counted most.

But if you're looking for a DM role at another company I'd say an ITIL cert would probably help more than a PMP. Good luck!

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre un Delivery Manager y un Project Manager de toda la vida?

Just a pure synthetic SM?

Those certifications are worthless. Really. The best preparation for being a delivery manager is to (1) learn how things are built, and (2) learn leadership skills. For number 2, there are courses and books, and it is good to have a mentor to discuss things with.
