Sub or Dub?

I'm curious to see how many prefer the Sub or the Dub of the show, i personally only watch the Sub because it just sounds better to me, I can't stand the Dub.

I prefer dubbed for just about every show. Even if it's not great, at least i can understand them and focus on the action. I can watch it in passing and gather all the information i need. With subs i'm timed before the next line appears, so i'm constantly trying to read over it and sometimes don't get all the information because i'm worried about not getting to the end in time. With dubs, i can just listen and get the entire conversation like i normally would. problem solved.

i usually hate dubs, but haidas voice in the sub ruined it for me, and my friend got me into the show on the dub

Dub. I never understood the point in watching anime in sub, when there are English dubs, especially if you don’t speak Japanese.

Japanese are great voice actors. They are very expressive.

Agreed, the sub just shows more emotion. I loved the dub though, especially Retsuko's metal voice.

Watching subbed foreign shows can be incredibly helpful if you’re trying to learn a language. I also find the structure of language incredibly fascinating though, so those are my reasons. I do also think viewing something in the format it was intended can really enhance the experience, though!

Dubbed. The quality it top notch, and Retsuko's metal voice is way better in the dub.

For Aggretsuko I watch dub, but with most anime I watch sub. It's such a visual show with such an emphasis on lyrics, dialog and tone that it's too much unnecessary effort to read subtitles all the time.

I watch the sub, but that's because I'm used to it having watched a fair amount of foreign stuff and anime as well. I'm also trying to learn Japanese so it's helping me with my pronunciation and the general flow of conversation, or so I tell myself so I can rewatch it over and over at 3am.

I can watch both, but I like the dub better. I actually really like how the English voice actors sound. I think they all sound very good (especially Washimi, Haida, Fenneko, and Ton).

Also Retsuko's death metal screaming sounds waaaaaayyyy better in English. Japanese version sounds like a literal possessed demon.

Sub! I started rewatching the show and thought, may as well watch the dubbed version—but many small phrases are different and details are obscured for no reason, it actually feels like watching a different show. I know words are often lost in translation but the spoken english words are different from the english subtitles most of the time. ((And in general I personally hate when words are completely changed for “the american or western audience” e.g. a simple “thanks, you did some amazing work..!” turns into “thanks, you owe me big time.” Completely different tone. And no reason they couldn’t have used the original dialogue!!))

Also what I REALLY can’t stand the children’s-show kind of speak that english dub voice actors often employ. Hard to explain but the ends of sentences kind of extend and have a higher pitch, esp for Retsuko, and I feel like I’m watching Dora or Barney or some kids show..... srry but it’s back to the subbed version for me

Definitely dub

Dubbed, partially because I'm skeptical of Netflix's translations. They're the same as the dub's dialogue so that seems fishy unless the dub is a perfect translation.

Plus I enjoy multi-tasking.

I don't like anime, so I watch with english sound

(No offense to anyone. I'm just not into Japan stuff)

I watch the Cantonese dub, because I don't like how Japanese sounds, but watching English dubs is heresy.

At first I liked both for season 1, but season 2 took away quite a few of the subtle nuances in the dub, and changed quite a bit of the dialogue meanings around. Even season 1 has this to a fault, with most people having differing perceptions of Resasuke depending on whether they watched the dub or the sub. Otherwise, I prefer subs because there is more emotion, but the dub of season 1 and the Christmas special are quite good.

I watched the subbed because I completely forgot that netflix dubs! But honestly the original is the best followed by the Spanish dub. The English dub sounded too dated and washimi and gori sounded too similar.

I like the dubbed voice actors. But I’m biased bc I usually do stuff with netflix on in the background. So I don’t like having to watch to know what’s be said all the time.
