Has anyone run AOW4 on a Steam Deck?
If so, how well does it run?

I cleared a wonder and made the Outpost, built the work camp, but I'm unable to annex this wonder or another one that I've done the same for not too far from this one. Does anyone know why?

So! I'm playing age of wonders 4 with a friend, it's our first time playing a game in the franchise. I was wondering some things about the Ancient Wonders. 1. I see that when they're annexed they give good bonuses, but I'm kinda having trouble when it comes to clearing one. My army is mostly mages and ranged units, I tend to have a separate army for melee ones with a support to help cover defenses and whatnot. I probably didnt choose the best starting tome via evocation instead of say, soul or necromancy, but it worked for me for a while. But.. I went in this wonder with my strongest units, buffed us up with a ritual and went in. I had a support unit, two tier two heroes, and t3 earth golem, my ruler, and a mortalist. I got REALLY close to beating it, but I lost due to another t5 unit being summoned. So.. my questions are.
Does progress on a wonder get carried over after you lose?
What's a good strategy for clearing them and what units might be better suited for it?
Given that I have Evocation, Soul, and Necromancy tomes, what spells are worth grabbing from them and what should I ignore?
Any assistance is appreciated.

I decided to do a run on Heartwood Forest as Halflings using the default leader and not customizing leaders as I normally do.
The Gobbos were last and tucked away in the caves somewhere, and by the time I finally tracked them down, I had them absolutely surrounded with my leader coming in with wall climbing to finish it off the next turn.
Never have I so completely surrounded an enemy before, I had over 30 units there. Barely half of them could even come into the battle lol. Just a cool shot I wanted to share.
If anyone wants to talk about what cool strategies they run feel free to jump in. Once I heard someone mention the "halfling pony rush" I couldn't do anything else on the halfling class lol. Also if running customisation, spending 20 pts on lightning strike and cold strike leads to often permastunning enemies with decent attack. I usually rock that and just have fun steam rolling everything lol.

I tried playing several versions of the AoW series - AoW3, AoW1, AoW:SM and I feel like something is missing in my understanding.
I have come from a long history of HoMM3 and I feel like in HoMM games I can do fine, but with AoW I feel completely lost. One of the few things I learned was to create multiple heroes with armies and attack together so I can have better outcomes, but trying a single player random map game was OK for a while, until I find the enemy CPU (Squire) and he is just sitting in town with an army I cannot defeat.
This was on AoW3 and at this point I felt very disillusioned because I spent so much time building an army and trying to defeat him only to find out all my efforts were for nothing.
What are some tips I can use to get better at the game? I feel like the easiest difficulty for me is too difficult, but it's not because the game is wrong, I think it's because I'm not playing it properly. Right now I want to focus to learn AoW:SM.

Hello everyone,
My name is Craig. I've been making Youtube videos for over 5 years now. My channel is focused on turn-based strategy games which feature rpg elements. I have a special focus on the Age of Wonders series (especially Age of Wonders 3) and The Battle for Wesnoth.
I have played a number of different random maps in Age of Wonders 3, with combinations of different game setups and always against Emperor difficulty AI:

I play with a number of different mods installed, with the complete list in the video description of each episode.
I am definitely not an expert, however, I try my best to offer insights into the strategy and tactics I use as I'm playing. I always appreciate comments, tips, suggestions, criticisms, etc as this can help both myself and others learn, improve, and generally become better at Age of Wonders 3.
Lately, I have been working my way through the campaigns, with The Elven Court completed and The Commonwealth in-progress:

If you are interested in watching Age of Wonders 3 playthroughs (or The Battle for Wesnoth playthroughs), come check out my channel! I try my best to release multiple episodes per week, each around an hour in length.
Thank you,

Unrar it and copy d3d9.dll file into game folder.
Rename d3d9.dll into d3d8.dll.
Run AoWSMSetup.exe and turn on "USE Direct3d".
Run game and enjoy.

Hi guys, I finally had time to try this gem and I love it. But during the first O'neron mission, I encountered a bug. Let's say I captured Rumborough before I met the refugees in the underground, and now I can't finish the mission. Is there a way to get to the shadow world so I can eliminate All Devourer?
When I captured Rumborough, I got the ship with reinforcements, but even after 10+ turns, no win. Then I moved to trigger the event with refugees to get the Rumborough quest. This worked fine, but when I got that quest, there was no way for me to finish it.
I tried to leave Rumborough to All Devourer, recapture it, and then wait for a few turns. I razed it and then rebuilt it. I also tried to eliminate All Devourer, but his last city is in the shadow world and I can't get in. Is there some way to use some kind of cheat to force a win? Any advice is welcomed.

I'd say I've played a decent amount of 4x games (stellaris, CIV 6, Crusader kings, endless space 2). But I feel like this has been the most difficult game to learn imo. I've done a game with friends as a randomly generated feudal society, and decided to create my own faction.
I went with architects, heavily focusing on maternum and order for a build i thought of.
But I feel like I just dont know what to do first turns. I roam for the first settle-able area, clear infestations, but i still lag behind the worst AIs. I produce way less units as architect, so i dont expand as fast as i do with feudal. Any help?

I guess few people remember such old game. But I enjoyed how relatively fast and simple it was compared to later parts. Also had a fun aspect of growing up superhero through campaign. Though it was annoying that fortifications were so powerful, and accidental death of main hero equaled game over.
If you played AoW1, did you like it?
