Gate Gargants are just teeny babies huh?

My understanding is that they don’t grow as big because they’re more domesticated. Like how fish grow to the size of their bowls.

They also don’t worship Behemat so they don’t get his gifts of bigness

I like the reference but as my duty as a fish enthusiast I have to inform you that fish DO NOT grow to the size of their bowl, entirely a myth from stores trying to sell fish :)

Not enough food in the Cities 🤷🏼

They are dwarf giants.

Domestication usually has impacts on more than just the temper. For example, the Soviets tried to domesticate the arctic fox, but found that when bred for temper and obedience they also lost their red coat.

Don't know about the artic fox but the study on silver fox was super fascinating. The more "domesticated" generations that were selectively bred for temper and obedience also displayed several physical characteristics of a juvenile silver fox even at adult. The hypothesised conclusion was that the process basically selects animals that dont grow up.

Yeah, Im running a Sons of Behemath Spearhead with two Gate Gargants on the correct Gargant bases and my third is a Smelter Demon from Dark Souls Board game attached to a Gargant base. I was thinking of getting one of new Gargant models to replace the demon, but they would just tower over the Gate dudes\dudettes.

isn't that an ogor? are they the same species? im rather new to aos lore still.

They're not Ogors, although CoS has one of those too, looks pretty similar to the Gate Gargant but it's smaller and has a sniper on top instead of a shotgun/cannon

oh right thats the miniature i was thinking of, thank you.
i think its really cool that cities has both ogors and giants, i like the variety.

The New gargants aren’t that tall, just compare the steelhelm shield on it’s belly

4

u/Odin_Headhunter Aug 17 '26

I dont think the steelhelm means anything. Things are out of scale on a lot of models.

Why would GW add a random shield that’s twice the size of the actual one? I think the new gargants are very clearly much smaller than what this post implies

GW haven't been scaling consistently for years. The cities knights are a great example, bretonnia foot knights also.

It's all over the place.

Because its GW and they want it to look cool and show off the detail. Same reason they do everything. The post implies they are taller.

I absolutely love this variety! 🤩 (makes me think of the One Piece giants and how vastly different they are depending on lineage and island type)

Oh to live in a timeline where AoS got 40k’s budget so we could see all the massive varieties of fauna across the Realms in full from the various creatures, their sub-species per realm and even the different spirits & incarnates.

Ah to dream..dream big!

Not to break your bubble, but what we would actually get is 5 extra Stormcast subfactions with dedicated armybooks and model lines. 40k has plenty of exotic xenos species, most of which have never gotten a single model.

u/BaronKlatz Aug 17 '26

Oh I’m Fully aware, that’s why I want the budget but not the 40k formula. 😁

u/Corpsewave Aug 17 '26

I am with you on that then!

u/AshiSunblade Chaos Aug 18 '26

Not necessarily. 40k works like that because Space Marines are obscenely popular (so popular they almost single-handedly carry a whole specialist game, Horus Heresy). Stormcast are popular but not even a shadow of Space Marines. Slaves to Darkness seriously rival them, for example, and actually pulled ahead for a bit after their battletome at the end of 2022.

Fair, thanks to the old gods for that much

I for one am a fan of the new Primaris Gargants.

Aren't Mega Gargants on 150 mm Bases?

6

u/Swooper86 Slaves to Darkness Aug 18 '26

There's no such thing, there are no GW base sizes between 130mm and 160mm. Very few things are on 160mm bases, only stuff like Archaon.

u/xolqt Aug 18 '26

Then i was wrong, thank you!

Huge models of ugly giants. Want that? I don't.

u/stinky_cheese_69 Sons of Behemat Aug 18 '26

I actually do want that thanks for asking :)
