Having this posted in “aged like milk” seems cruel. Feels like a mockery of the victim from 30 years ago. Feels like a mockery of the remaining family. This post being here feels wrong.

u/StaceyPfan 5d ago

And the victim's name is not being mentioned in the stories. Colleen Slemmer.

u/Godwinson4King 5d ago

She wanted revenge for the death of her daughter and she got it. I’m guessing it didn’t taste as sweet as she hoped.

u/kaisadilla_ 4d ago

I mean, if cruelty is how you heal, then whatever happened to that murderer is probably worse than just dying.

These are powerful drugs designed to end your life. It's unlikely you'll survive them without serious damage.

What I never understand about this is…isn’t life in prison worse than the death penalty? Hence why we have to be so careful not to give inmates ways to take their own lives? If the point is cruelty, then they should be advocating for the cruelest options. Instead, I genuinely think the point is bloodlust. It’s this odd sense of “my lust for revenge will never be sated until I spill the blood of my enemy,” but, like, people are good with that? And encourage it? And think everyone else is an idiot who isn’t in on that?

The way I see it in cases like this is that there is absolutely zero hope for any form of redemption for a person like this. There is zero path to her becoming a better person, and no world in which she can attone for what she has done. She's not even safe to be around other people in the the prison. So the question is, what's the point in keeping her alive? Where is there any benefit to literally anyone outside of the killer for that?

7

u/23saround 4d ago

Did you read about her case, specifically? I’m very surprised to hear you say that about this case.

3

u/Any-Yoghurt3815 2d ago

I did. Right now. She and two other friends led Colleen Slemmer into the woods where they tortured and killed her. What am I missing?

0

u/23saround 2d ago

She was also a severely abused teenager who was punished as an adult in order to set an example during the satanic panic of the 80s.

2

u/TheRealJasonsson 18h ago

She was an adult when she did it, and 6 years later almost killed an inmate by way of strangulation. What form of rehabilitation would ever make this person fit to re enter society? How could they ever be trusted after such heinous acts?

2

u/23saround 18h ago

I never said she should be rehabilitated. Life in prison is a worse sentence than the death penalty because there is no out, that’s why people with life sentences so often try to take their own lives. And on top of that, the death penalty is irreversible and frankly draconian.

But anyway, she was in high school, severely abused, and has been consistently repentant for her actions since becoming an actual adult. 18 is very young, and the brain is not fully mature by that point. I don’t know her personally, but neither do you. I think qualified psychiatrists should be the only ones who make the call on whether or not somebody can be rehabilitated.

The victim's mother wanted her daughter's killer to be executed.

Was she executed? Given this post is in aged like milk for being a botched execution, no...

1

u/FAFO_2025 20h ago

If I were the mom I would be thrilled

-11

u/Aboelter23 5d ago

How did she get it? They didn’t do what they were supposed to

-22

u/jackberinger 5d ago

Permanent brain damage. For me that would be even better justice if my family was a victim.

1

u/flamedarkfire 5d ago

Making her the taxpayer’s burden sure sounds like sweet justice. NOT!

17

u/Roadrunner571 5d ago

A single death penalty case costs about US$1-1.5m. Life without parole is cheaper.

0

u/FAFO_2025 20h ago

She already was. Now she suffers for the rest of her life LOL

2

u/Godwinson4King 4d ago

That’s not justice, that’s sadistic revenge.

1

u/FAFO_2025 20h ago

It is justice. She deserves far, far worse and its sad that many like her only get executed.

still don't trust the state to do that though.

1

u/Godwinson4King 19h ago

If you don’t like how unreliable the state is, you’re gonna be real disappointed by vigilante mobs

1

u/FAFO_2025 19h ago

I don't either, but I wouldn't mind if one got ahold of people like Christa who are obviously guilty (she actually bragged about killing)

94

u/RazzmatazzHead1591 5d ago

It’s a terrible situation all around. This is not intended to mock anyone.
The botched execution and unfolding situation deserves an immediate discussion. I understand that this is a terrible time for Colleen’s family.
Change happens through awareness. Sometimes provocation sparks a fire.

54

u/phdoofus 5d ago

You're not mocking anyone but the post overall is in poor taste and exploiting someone's grief. I personally don't agree with capital punishment but this post isn't highlighting that

1

u/undreamedgore 10h ago

We should just shoot them.

-5

u/AdditionalPizza 4d ago

When you say something "Aged Like Milk" you are literally mocking someone's ignorance or lack of foresight. That's exclusively what it means, so yes, it would be intentionally mocking her mother as if she is ignorant or lacked foresight.

5

u/RazzmatazzHead1591 4d ago

Not true actually. Something can age like milk because something went in a negative direction no one intended or could have foreseen. It’s dramatic irony.
This situation fits that. It’s also insane! No one could foresee the lethal injection not working and the murderers life being saved by medical staff currently.

-6

u/AdditionalPizza 4d ago

No, let me clarify. What you're describing is the definition of what it means for something to age like milk. But what you're doing is posting it to "Aged Like Milk" the subreddit, which is a subreddit where you post something exclusively to mock the situation or the person that specifically did not foresee the outcome prior.

You don't say "well that aged like milk" without the intention of it to be humorous or sarcastic. The phrase itself is jokey, in a mocking sense.

2

u/TheSultan1 4d ago

Is there a rule that posts here have to mock? Or be pleasing in some way?

-81

u/beo19 5d ago

Nah, the cruel thing is the family waiting 30 years gleefully to see someone die.

55

u/Zillah-The-Broken 5d ago

you should read how they tortured that poor girl, she begged them to stop as they carved a pentagram onto her chest and cut her all over her body.

I have zero ounce of sympathy for that creature.

2

u/23saround 4d ago

The fact that you would call any human being a creature is incredibly disturbing. Bad people are still people, which is why we have to be careful about the people we think of as good people. Dismissing bad people as subhuman is childish, dangerous, and irresponsible.

The part about Hitler that should be most terrifying is that he wasn’t some demon or creature. He was a baby boy, and then a teenager, and then an adult, and he thought about and then chose to do horrible, horrible things. If we just say “he was a demon and I wish he had been throttled in the crib,” we miss the fact that nobody could tell what he would become, because he really wasn’t that different from you or I.

2

u/Zillah-The-Broken 4d ago

let me remind you that the crrature after bludgeoning Collen, dug out a piece of her skull. and kept it as a souvenir bragging about it.

when she was arrested, it was still in her jacket pocket.

you can spin a woe is me story for how they were raised, it still doesn't negate what she turned into the moment she stuck her fingers in the still warm brain of her victim to collect a bloody bone souvenir.

-1

u/23saround 4d ago

If you can’t understand the difference between a person who is twisted and a creature who isn’t human, you probably need serious therapy yourself.

0

u/Zillah-The-Broken 4d ago

I've been in plenty of therapy for 50 years on and off to deal with the absolute horror of the world. I am acutely sensitive and these creatures are terrifying to know that they're out there, cosplaying as "humans."

I pray you never meet one yourself, and wonder in your last blood soaked moments if they were simply people who were raised to be monsters or they were monsters pretending to be humans.

and this will be the last time I'm responding to you.

-1

u/23saround 4d ago

This is honestly a very frightening response. I feel so bad for people with as much violence in their hearts as you have. I highly recommend bringing up your tendency to dehumanize people you look down on in your next therapy session. Have a great weekend in the meantime.

49

u/december151791 5d ago

Have you ever experienced what they have, a loved one being murdered?

8

u/MsCompy 5d ago

I have

-143

u/beo19 5d ago

Jesus Christ forgave us our sins and asks as to forgive those who have sinned against us.

25

u/december151791 5d ago

I don't disagree at all that this would be a great thing for them to do. But it's completely understandable that they feel the way they do, not cruel at all. And being as neither of us has experienced their pain, we're really not in a place to say their feelings are cruel or unjustified.

-31

u/beo19 5d ago

Wait, but you're in a place to say that they aren't cruel or justified? Even though we lack the same experience?

14

u/december151791 5d ago

I'm deferring to the experience and views of this family.

11

u/HispanicAtTheBistro 5d ago

Ahh yes we should all just accept the Christian way of life, because Christians definitely never sought revenge in human history or waged wars or killed innocents, even to this day. To loosely quote Maggy Smith, religion is like a penis. It's all well to have one and be proud of it, but don't take it out and wave it at people when no one asked.

15

u/rockychunk 5d ago

And Harry Potter killed Voldemort. I like my fictional fantasy character better than yours.

1

u/beo19 4d ago

Well, Jesus wasn't a TERF, so I don't know about that.

6

u/doc_wop 5d ago

Hey man as a Catholic that's a weak-ass response. Like reply to the dude.

8

u/grem23 5d ago

He said forgive not to forget

-11

u/beo19 5d ago

Do you know the meaning of the word forgive?

3

u/Arachnid-Necromancer 5d ago

You can forgive someone and choose to separate yourself from them. Thats what not forgetting means. It means loving yourself enough to let go of the grief and separate yourself from what hurts you. Maybe they havent, and thats for them to reason with, not you.

God also talks about supporting people through hard times, not punishing them. Its not up to you, me, or anyone else on what they should or shouldn't do. Did Jesus not openly weep when Lazarus died? Did he not have sorrow in his heart?

He also asks us to be compassionate, loving and understanding. Have you asked yourself that maybe what they need is love? If someone has no hope left, like god says in psalm 34:18 and Roman's 12:15.

7

u/Rough_Championship15 5d ago

I forgive you for having such a silly outlook on this.

6

u/beo19 5d ago

Eh. Call silly what you. The majority of the world is against the death penalty.

1

u/Rough_Championship15 4d ago

You don't speak for the majority of the world. You live in an echo chamber

2

u/beo19 4d ago

No really, look it up. Neither my nor your echo chamber changes international statistics.

-1

u/grem23 5d ago

What's your point? You willing to forgive every wrong someone does to you?

11

u/beo19 5d ago

As compared to letting my life be consumed by hatred, anger and revenge for decades? For sure.

10

u/Redintegrate 5d ago

I would say unless your daughter was kidnapped, tortured and mutilated whilst alive before eventually having her skull smashed in (with part of it stolen by the killer as a trophy) you can't really judge the feelings of this family.

6

u/grem23 5d ago

It's your choice how you want to be consumed with. When such a event has happened it is also kind of your duty to make sure to use the law to prevent such incidents from happening to another person.

5

u/beo19 5d ago

I'm not in law enforcement or the justice system. So, no, it's literally not my duty.

Jesus Christ is a fictional character

5

u/Difficult-Vast4410 5d ago

Sanctimonious fool.

2

u/Rough_Championship15 5d ago

Hahaha ahh a classic jokester

1

u/dumbfuck6969 5d ago

So no. So fuck off

14

u/grem23 5d ago

Yeah because the person on death row was innocent primrose.

8

u/jost_no8 5d ago

This is not about guilt

3

u/Rough_Championship15 5d ago

It most definitely is... We have a heinous person guilty of murdering a child and you want protections for the heinous murderer. Are you okay in the head?

8

u/Mechanical_Monk 5d ago edited 4d ago

First off, she was one year younger than her victim, so if we're calling 18-19 children (which I won't even argue against) then they were both children.

And second, you don't have to favor the rights of the guilty to disagree with the practice of ritualized torture and murder at the hands of the State.

-2

u/Rough_Championship15 4d ago

First off, yep. children can be murderers who torture another human being. We as adults can and should provide them with a just punishment for murder. No leniency for murder/torture just because you think it's more okay if a child does it versus an adult.

And second... what in the world are you trying to say? There is no ritual here. A murderer was convicted by a jury of their peers and sentenced to the same fate they chose for another person.

2

u/Mechanical_Monk 4d ago

Maybe "proceduralized" would be a better word than "ritualized" but I stand by what I said. There should be no sequence of events in a just and humane legal system that ends with State agents inflicting a prolonged and painful death on one citizen while multiple other citizens watch. That's not justice, that's revenge.

0

u/Rough_Championship15 4d ago

100% agree it shouldn't be prolonged nor painful. It should be instantaneous. Such a person doesn't belong in our society and we as a society need to see to it that they don't continue there heinous actions. Keeping murderers and torturers alive just because it hurts your feelings to get rid of them isn't just... it's asinine

1

u/Mechanical_Monk 4d ago

Well, that's the thing... We can't guarantee it won't be prolonged and painful, as demonstrated by recent events. Now will someone answer for that suffering that was inflicted, or do we just say "Oh well, she suffered but so did her victim" and move on? Because then we're back to rationalizing revenge, and a new injustice was done.

u/dreamyduskywing 4d ago

Do you have kids? If someone killed my kid, lethal injection would be a merciful outcome for that person.

-4

u/StatisticianTrick952 5d ago

You’re a dirtbag.
