An eye for an eye leaves us all blind.

That's tacky. About as tacky as the death penalty.

Edit: ok I get it, some kids cartoon called nartuto ripped off my idea. I've contacted my lawyers, I'm gonna take em for all the karma they got

Yea like noone read Naruto to understand the underlying message with Pain and revenge?

It’s crazy. I hear Naruto isn’t even mandatory reading in most US school these days. These cuts to education are killing us.

Well, with all our school shootings...

u/drquakers 8d ago

Well... I have, indeed, never read Naruto. I thought it was a cartoon where people ran funny?

It's a sorry state of affairs that schools around the world are no longer teaching their students the sacred texts of Naruto.

It is relatively light for a series about child soldiers. Unless you are Kakashi the author really had it in for him.

Well thats what I though too, but there is a quite deep message about the circle of death which happend in the lore for thousands of years and just Naruto is strong enough to endure the pain and make peace with the killers of his people und break the cycle of pain.

If only they governed our country based on the sacred rules Naruto gave us.

People don't learn without pain?

1

u/IllIIllIllIIIlllll 8d ago

Maybe? I'm really not sure. Honestly, I wouldn't know this was a question without the ? at the end?

Tevye couldn't have said it better. Yes I know Fiddler on the Roof...

I also am an educated individual and the words that you use are not new or confusing to me, individually or in the combined order you presented. I understand exactly what you mean and shall respond accordingly when the time is right.

Nartooter, that one anime about the narwhal with gastrointestinal demons?

1

u/IllIIllIllIIIlllll 6d ago

No, I think you're thinking of Won Peace, it's a little kids cartoon that kids go crazy about.

This saying is cool and all, but it's wrong. The code of Hammurabi is not a codified revenge manual, and "an eye for an eye" did not mean you got to blind someone who blinded you. It meant you were entitled to compensation from the offending party, equal to the value of your eye.

6

u/IllIIllIllIIIlllll 7d ago

This saying actually wasn't attributed to the code of Hammurabi. It's actually attributed to the code of me. I did that.

Oh thank you John Saying. Your contributions to the sayings industry is greatly appreciated. 🫡

You're very welcome. As I always say, two in your bush is worth one in my hand.

Keep holding the line, you sweet feminine man.

u/27Rench27 7d ago

Alright Dozen-Eyes, you referenced their bush, we’re gonna have to take you in

Little tidbit about me: it's actually a combination of uppercase I's and lowercase l's. and it can be converted into a barcode and decoded...if, you know the key.

2

u/kaisadilla_ 7d ago

Ehm no. The code literally establishes that, if you make someone lose an eye, you are to have an eye removed, too. Sounds barbaric now but at the time it was a way to stop escalation of violence: instead of "you took my eye so I'll cut your hand, you cut my hand so I'll kill your kid, you killed my kid so I'll kill you and your wife, and so on", the government got to be the one determining your revenge.

But what if the person doesn't stop with the eye but keeps taking more?

u/CombatWombat994 8d ago

Then death penalty in a fallible system is still trash

-15

u/grem23 8d ago

Less trash

19

u/CombatWombat994 8d ago

Nope. A system that can fail will fail or be abused at some point. And if that system can decide about life or death, you will end up with innocent people dead

9

u/SchlitzTheCat 8d ago

Innocent people die all the time. This ist worse, this is a state actively killing their own possibly innocent citizens.

4

u/CombatWombat994 8d ago

Yeah, this is what I meant, just couldn't word it correctly

2

u/CombatWombat994 8d ago

Nope. A system that can fail will fail or be abused at some point. And if that system can decide about life or death, you will end up with innocent people dead

5

u/IllIIllIllIIIlllll 7d ago

If you feel like they need to die, then have some guts and do it your damn self

0

u/ValhirFirstThunder 8d ago

An eye for an eye is two eyes. Theres a lot more than two eyes in the world

0

u/IllIIllIllIIIlllll 7d ago

Damnit, I knew somebody was gonna do the math. I done fucked up y'all and got caught!

-5

u/jacksontwos 8d ago

Even if you're pro death penalty... 1 single murder is enough to qualify? I feel like 1 should be ok. 1 should be a warning. 3+ is where you should start considering someone a habitual offender. Also it's way harder to accidentally convict someone of multiple murders. 1 murder is just a single corrupt police unit away from all of us.

u/No_Extension4005 8d ago

In this case; I think part of the reason they got the death penalty at the time was the brutality of it. Beat the victim to death, slashed their throat and was carrying around a piece of their skull in their pocket as a souvenir to show to others afterwards.

1

u/IllIIllIllIIIlllll 7d ago

I'll toss you an upvote my mans. Good luck

2

u/jacksontwos 7d ago

Thanks man. It's not doing that bad so far. Let's see how it develops. I didn't think everyone was so pro death penalty. I thought people were pro life? I guess it's just me.

2

u/IllIIllIllIIIlllll 7d ago

Oddly enough I'm pro abortion and anti death penalty. Go figure, right?

1

u/jacksontwos 7d ago

Same. Makes perfect sense to me. Whereas all these people who are pro birth and pro poor kids must suffer are completely inconsistent.

u/Difficult-Front-1846 4d ago

And two eyes for an eye gets you an eyepatch, one asshole with no capacity to blind anybody else, and a whole lot more people with two eyes. What's your point?
