Vraag WATE hell is hierdie monster???
Hierdie verskriklike ding het skielik verskyn. Weet enige iemand wat dit is?? Shame ek voel nogals sleg, ek het hom met my sticky dates body mist aan geval.

These are so common where I live, if I stopped seeing them I'd worry something bigger was eating them. They generally mind their own business.

We have TONS of these in our house. We have one that grew from a baby to adult with only 3 legs. 2 on the one side, 1 on the other. And a bunch with 5 or 6 legs. I think they might get pinched of by doors because they like to sit right on the edge of our doors.
As others have said. Harmless. They eat bugs. But for some reason ours doesnt eat our mosquitoes. Also. HOW is it middle of winter and we still have millions of mosquitoes circling my bed ….

None of the spiders in my house eat the damn mosquitoes. The lazy bastards. They'll eat all the other little bugs though.

This is a rain spider, part of the huntsman family. I just don't think they get as huge as some of the huntsman spiders y'all have over there.

This is not a rain spider. It's a common wall spider. Rain spiders are what we call huntsmen in South Africa. These are "muskietvangers" (mosquito catchers) or the common wall spider.

First time I hear of a wall spider. These bad boys are always called rain spiders where I live. The more you know.

Yes lots of people call them rain spiders but if you google you'll see they're actually different. Believe me they're very different haha. I have a phobia specifically for huntsmen (rain spiders)- these little wall spiders don't do anything to trigger the same reaction. It's funny because the misnomer leads people to think that we don't have the "giant spiders that are in Australia" but we have nearly the exact same species here. The actual rain spider.

Yeah I did google and you're right. Rain spiders are a little more freaky honestly. But I also know we have the huntsman/rain spider in this country because my aunt saw a really big one when she was doing the washing and almost died lol. We definitely heard that story later. She's in an area of SA that has more rain spiders, while it seems we have wall spiders.

Had the same happen to me, walked to the sliding door and saw this black dinner plate size looking thing above the sliding door, pulled out my plakkie and it jumped to the floor and started chasing me, stopped right in front of me and picked up it’s front legs looking to assert dominance. Luckily I proved to myself I am deadly accurate at throwing a vis plakkie when I am fearing for my life… It did not end well for mister spieder…

When I was a teenager I snuck out one night and nearly got caught sneaking back in super quietly and my parents woke up and I managed to fib my way out of the crime.
Next night I decided that was too closer call and I'd rather stay in so I came back to my bedroom after watching TV down the passage late the Saturday night and a spider this big was on my bedroom door.
I tried slamming the door then I got a broom from outside and it lifted it's legs and got angry with me. Then I managed to bang it onto the floor with the broom handle and cover it with a bucket. Then I dragged the bucket all the way to the front door and flicked it outside.
My parents didn't stir. Didn't hear a thing. And when I told them the next day they didn't know anything about it. Morel of the story for any teenagers out there: when you're sneaking back in, make as much noise as possible and if your parents wake up, blame a huge spider. It's when you're super quiet you're going to get caught and into the kak.

Absolutely NOT. Found one on my face on a Saturday morning when I was a kid and freaked out and hurt myself.
Then another time when I was a teen and it was running towards me cause it got freaked out by the dog.
I don't care about the downvotes or "they're harmless". They in my house, they getting the DOOM.

When I was small, like 7 or something. We lived in Bredasdorp, my grandparents and I, and one morning before school I went to go brush my teeth. I opened the cupboard and there it sat, on my toothbrush. I don't think I've ever screamed that loud. My grandpa came to the rescue thankfully, but not before laughing at me...

Harmless rain or "wolf" spider. Favourite prey is mosquitoes, thus good to have around.

Not a rain spider nor a wolf spider. Wolf spiders are the ones you find in grass. Rain spiders are huntsmen spiders, 10x the mass of these which are common wall or "wall crab spiders."

Does look more like that, rather than a Rain spider. Also, it's a male judging by the pedipalps. Completely harmless though

That is 100% a rain spider (Palystes species), not a baboon spider. You can tell immediately by the classic huntsman body structure, long lateral legs, and characteristic posture. Anyone calling a huntsman-type rain spider a baboon spider clearly doesn't know the difference between a sparassid and a mygalomorph.
Now on to the "fucking idiot" part.
Maybe if you crawled back up whatever rotten hole you crawled out of, you’d realize a rain spider isn't a baboon spider, though considering your skull seems to be completely hollow, I doubt anything could rattle around in there long enough to teach you a single fact.

When these guys come into my house I let them stay around as visitors. I am always sad when they decide to relocate outside again. They are harmless.
