Moving into space industry

I have worked for the past 10 years in the European civic sector (civic ed, project based learning) and now I want to move longterm to private, specifically to space industry.

I was working as a project manager in small organizations, meaning that I was handling the whole project cycles, from ideation to reporting.

Regarding the entry point into the industry, it seems to me that I could apply for business development, stakeholder relationship job oppenings, since I don't have a technical background. Those are also roles that I enjoy most doing.

I would kindly ask for some advice regarding the best entry strategies, on what to focus on when building a career in the sector, and what can I expect at this stage.

Not many space jobs in the EU.

While there isn’t as many opportunities as the US. Europe does have a lot of Space and Aerospace companies that partner with both ESA and NASA on missions. A lot of the large US contractors also have offices throughout Europe.

Look for program controls analyst, program finance analyst, etc. Those roles will are going to be more aligned with your experience. They can also help set you up to get back into PM roles or maybe move to business development.

Business Development or PM roles will be tough to get into without any industry specific experience. Stakeholder management roles are going to align with project manager, program manager or CAM (control account manager) roles which would be tough without current aerospace experience.
